We are heartbroken to share the passing of our dear friend, mentor, leader — Rob Trice. Rob passed away on February 19, 2026 after a brief illness while traveling for work in Europe. For almost two decades, Rob was a driving force behind Full Circle Fund and its work to help connect people with a shared desire to give back to the Bay Area together. Rob shared this quote by George Bernard Shaw to others, so it's befitting that we share it here with the community: "This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no "brief candle" for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations." He brought people together to make the Bay Area better with his splendid torch, and we will carry that work forward. Our deepest condolences to Wendy and his family. We will miss his optimism and spirit of generosity. To honor Rob, we invite you to share remembrances to them by emailing memories and photos to RememberingRob@mixingbowlhub.com. The Full Circle Fund-YCore merger was a major event in our quarter century history. In 2023, shortly after the merger of our like-minded organizations, we had a memorable joint retreat of community members at TomKat Ranch Educational Foundation. We did some workshopping, heard from local non-profit rural social services provider Puente de la Costa Sur and Full Circle Founder+State Senator Josh Becker, mulched a garden of apple trees, and went for a hike. The food truck fare from local Pescadero farmers was also pretty special. It was a fun time and so will October 28th when our community celebrates 25 years of making the Bay Area better together. In 2023 we organized an event to discuss the future of volunteering with California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday, Colleen Gregerson then head of Battery Powered, Jess Blackshaw then head of YCore and our own Eva Camp. Please join our community the evening of October 28th to celebrate our 25th anniversary of volunteering together by grabbing a ticket via the Eventbrite link in the comment below!

2025 marks 25 years of Full Circle Fund’s engaged philanthropy in the Bay Area. In a series of posts leading up to our 25th anniversary UNITE celebration on October 28th (please join us via the Eventbrite link in the comments!), we are looking back on the impact we have made and the amazing people and organizations we have worked with along the way. In this series we specifically look at our efforts to improve food and agriculture in the Bay Area. In total, we have worked on 21 projects with 16 non-profit organizations in this category at Full Circle Fund and at YCore, the organization we merged with in 2023. As the name would indicate, the non-profit NOMADgardens designed mobile “pop up” community gardens with the intent for them not to be permanent. Designer Stephanie Goodson, Founder of NOMADgardens, saw the numerous vacant urban lots in San Francisco being readied for development as an opportunity to build temporary gardens. Rather than have those lots sit vacant while developers await finalization of construction plans, NOMADgardens foresaw an opportunity to build temporary gardens for better land use and community enjoyment. In late 2013 NOMADgardens got the OK from the MIssion Bay Development Group to build just such a garden. In early 2014 a Full Circle Fund team worked with NOMADgardens to support the launch of the site by helping develop a workshop curriculum and refining the organization’s strategy for successful and scalable community engagement in the Mission Bay project. Stephanie said in a Fast Company article on the project, “I’m a big believer in cities and the cross-pollination of ideas. Giving a space like this provides for serendipity, innovation, and idea generation, and just cultivating a strong community.” While the project demonstrated success and gained community support, it was intended as an interim solution for developing spaces within Mission Bay and as such was shut down after more than a year of operation. The colorful flowers and community events brought a real warmth to a space that otherwise would have been just been a vacant lot. NOMADgardens was a great example of public/private community development during its seven years of operation.
