In 2025, more than 15,000 games launched on the web, nearly 3x more than the previous year. Better tooling, better performance, faster updates and direct access to the audience are driving that growth for developers, while the instant play of web games appeals to its player base. At Poki, we've seen it firsthand. 100 million monthly players, a global developer community, and games reaching audiences that app stores alone can't match. We're focused on building the infrastructure that makes that possible. HTML5 is still improving. The opportunity is only getting bigger. Read on here: https://lnkd.in/eE2DXMKv

Today is International Women’s Day: A global moment to recognize the contributions of women and reflect on how societies continue to evolve. One way researchers track that change is through the Global Gender Gap Report, which compares measurable differences between women and men in large populations across the globe in areas like education, economic participation, health, and political representation. When consistent patterns show up across many countries, they can point to areas worth understanding more deeply. A couple of numbers from the latest report stood out to us: • Globally, about 68.8% of the measured gender gap has been closed (up from about 64% when tracking began in 2006) • At the current pace of change, full parity is estimated to be about 123 years away Numbers never tell the whole story, but they offer perspective on how progress unfolds over time across countries, cultures, and communities. At Poki, we’re lucky to see diversity every day through our global community of players, game developers, and partners. We support days like today as a reminder that the world is constantly evolving. Progress rarely moves in a straight line, but every step forward expands what’s possible for the next generation. Pokémon celebrated its 30th Anniversary last Friday, and for everyone in the games industry it serves as an amazing point of learning for marketing and building up the longevity of an IP. As a platform, we support web gaming developers to reach new audiences and provide actionable advice on how to ensure their game has a long tail of life. Part of how we achieve this is by learning from the successful gaming brands that have come before us, like Pokémon, and so our own Romy Halfweeg 🔜 MAD Games Show - gamescom LATAM recently shared some of that advice with PocketGamer.biz for their Pokémon 30th Anniversary article. In her comment, Romy focused on the strong designs of all the Pokémon, how each one has that ‘mascot’-like appeal that helps players identify with them. “For web games, where you have just a few seconds to grab a player's attention, character design really matters. Pokémon shows how powerful a recognisable, lovable character can be. If players instantly think a character looks cute or cool, that alone can be enough to make them click, try the game and come back for more.” Romy's full comment, along with comments from other gaming industry experts, can be read below. #Pokemon #GamingIndustry #Poki #CharacterDesign #GameDev
Today marks 30 years since Pokémon Red and Green first released in Japan! This is a franchise I've been obsessed with since childhood; The Pokémon Company International first hooked me with Diamond and Pearl in the late 2000s, and I still hang out with my original Torterra who's moved all the way to Violet today. So, I was eager to celebrate this major milestone by reaching out to various games industry voices for their thoughts, musings, and nostalgic flashbacks on the franchise - whether that's Gen Xers who saw the series' rise, or Millennials who lived it, or others like myself from Gen Z who've only ever lived in a Pokémon world ⚡ I heard back from plenty of voices - suggesting to me that this series is still dear to many game devs' hearts. And, many of them have learnt valuable lessons from the Pokémon franchise too. Among the industry speakers kind enough to share their childhood memories, favourite Pokémon, and cool merch collections, are: Rovio Entertainment's portfolio and performance lead Veli Kiviaho. Scopely's VP of product for Pokémon GO, Michael Steranka. Poki's business development manager Romy Halfweeg. Fundamentally Games' CSO Oscar Clark. Talofa founder and CEO Jenny Xu. ZBD's SVP of business development Igor M. Pragma's senior business development manager Adrian Arboleda. Midjiwan AB - Polytopia CEO Christian Lövstedt. And more! Be sure to check out the article on PocketGamer.biz 👀 https://lnkd.in/emHj6KhW Lastly, I'm curious to hear from anyone still reading this: what starter are you choosing in Winds and Waves? I usually go for the grass type, but early impressions? I'm liking the look of Gecqua! #Pokemon30

Our Co-Founder Michiel recently sat down with Mobidictum to discuss how we are driving meaningful outcomes for our community of 100 million monthly active users and over 600 developers. How we are shaping the future of play: 🏠A True Home for Creators We empower everyone from solo devs to hitmaking publishers to experiment, iterate, and reach global audiences without the friction of app store downloads. 🔎Success Through Curation We prioritize quality over quantity. By hand-picking the best titles for our library of 1,500+ games, we ensure high-quality experiences through and through. 👀Unrivaled Visibility We remove barriers to play, providing developers with instant visibility for new audiences and global reach that aligns with modern media habits. As Michiel notes, the web is inherently frictionless, offering a unique space for rapid feedback and growth that gated ecosystems simply can't match.
