The traditional design process is breaking—and that’s exactly why it’s so exciting to be in this field right now. Design is no longer just about the screen. It’s about the build and the system.

Attended a Vibe Coding Finland Design hackathon yesterday too see how others are doing it. Had a couple of hypotheses that turned out to be true: Friction of ”getting started” is gone. Within a couple of minutes describing the problem we were trying to solve, we had 3-5 different iterations of the product. Clickable prototypes with dropdowns, even chat mock up. Couple of years ago that would have taken hours (or at least half an hour from a super front end engineer) - now it can be done by anyone. Poorly - but it can be done. The hard part is still defining the problem. Is it a problem? Whose problem? Is it solvable with software? And even though it wasn’t the point to make anything to sell: who would pay for this? Design is not dying because of AI. AI is revealing how hard it is to actually find a problem worth solving. When you can build you own vanity-apps (I’m building an AI outfit planner for my own wardrobe, I mean why not?) - could we start solving the more wicked problems as teams?

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘅 I know a top software architect who lost his job last year. He had 15 years of experience building complex systems for big clients. But when he left, he had little to show for it. This is because of NDAs and client ownership clauses. You may have felt this tension as a developer. The more specialized your work is, the less portable it is. I call this the Builder's Paradox. You have deep expertise that is invaluable but invisible outside your organization. Most developers have one employer and one income stream. This is a single point of failure. We wouldn't design a system this way. We'd build in redundancy and failover mechanisms. To avoid this, you can: - Write about a problem you solved without naming the client - Create a small open-source tool - Test a small product idea on the side Over time, this work becomes proof of your thinking. It's not about working 60 hours a week. It's about being deliberate with your time. Think of your career like a system design. No investor puts everything in one stock. So why put all your professional leverage in one employer? You'll stay sharper and think more strategically. You'll bring back ideas that improve how you lead teams. How to make upper limb rehabilitation more accessible for both the patients and healthcare professionals? 💪 Our HXRC trainee blog post series continues with another exciting story! 🤩 This time, we're diving into one of the biggest projects of Helsinki XR Center: the GameRAT project! Follow along as our talented team, in collaboration with Virtual Dawn, gamified traditional physiotherapy by developing an upper limb rehabilitation system using Virtual and Mixed Reality technologies. What challenges did the team face during the development process? What if each role in your #agile team like Product Owner, Developer or QA was played by an AI? That is the idea Sami et. al (2025) tested in GPT-Lab (Tampere University) study using GPT-4o, LLaMA 3.3, and Mistral-Nemo as collaborating agents that generate and prioritize user stories. GPT-4o aligned most closely with human reasoning but not perfectly.
