Elie Schoppik has spent his career at the intersection of education and engineering. He built early ed-tech tools that helped people actually retain knowledge, founded a Bay Area coding bootcamp that trained thousands of developers through practice and feedback, and now leads Technical Education at Anthropic. Despite all that experience, Elie says most teams are using AI wrong: they’re treating it like an all-knowing oracle instead of a tutor. If you’re trying to break into startups and feel like you’re reading a map in a different language— read this! Colorwave is opening applications for their next cohort. I’m shouting it out because it actually changed my trajectory. I spent years in corporate banking and FinTech. I knew a bit about the startup world from my job experiences but I didn’t understand the "unwritten rules" of it (the networking, the equity, the pace, or the mindset). Colorwave was the bridge. This week, Gloo also updated the general Flourishing AI (FAI) Benchmark. Originally launched in July, it showed leading frontier LLMs struggled to support holistic human wellbeing across 7 key dimensions (Character, Finances, Faith, etc.). The new data is promising! It shows that models made steady gains in core reasoning, safety alignment, and pragmatic guidance. But also confirms earlier patterns -- strong in fact-based dimensions, weak in personal viewpoints and values. Essentially, LLMs handle pragmatic guidance well, but struggle with nuanced, value-aligned reasoning. Still work to be done in supporting holistic human flourishing and wellbeing. www.gloo.com/fai
