Did he just say Hermès? In a story about Koenigsegg possibly weighing an IPO, one line that stood out was the suggestion that investors might view the company as something closer to a mix of a tech startup and Hermès. Hermès is not just a luxury brand. It represents scarcity, pricing power, and a level of exclusivity that often supports a very different valuation than a traditional manufacturer receives. That framing suggests Koenigsegg wants investors thinking about the company through that lens rather than the one normally applied to automakers. The way a company is framed can shape how investors categorize it, which public companies they compare it to, and how they think about value.

🧹 Want to Know if an Exec Will Succeed in a Startup? Give Them the Mop Test. Last night, I joined a dinner organized by Paul English (Co-Founder and CTO of KAYAK) and Brian Kalma—a gathering of curious builders talking shop about the state of tech and why we’re all still obsessed with the process of building. Paul shared a story that really stuck with me. He had once recruited a brilliant CTO—a true "crack coder". But the moment Paul really knew this person was the right fit didn’t come from a product being shipped. It came from a mop. The night before a huge investor pitch, the team had worked late into the night. Everyone finally went home exhausted. The product was still in rough shape. And the office? Total mess. Not exactly the backdrop for a high-stakes meeting. When Paul showed up the next morning, the CTO was already there—with a mop. He got there early to clean the space, saying: “We’ve got to win this demo.” The best part ... the office didn't have a mop. HE BROUGHT IN HIS OWN! That CTO eventually helped sell the company and made millions in the exit. But the moment Paul knew he was the real deal? It wasn’t the tech. It was that moment—with the mop. Startups are messy. There are no clean lanes. No clear roles. No one’s handing you a to-do list. The best execs in a startup don’t just do their job—they chase whatever the moment needs. If the floor’s dirty, they clean it. If there’s no mop, they go find one. I’ve seen the same in corporate. The best entrepreneurs inside big orgs were always the ones frustrated by being boxed into a narrow role. And the ones who loved the box? Rarely thrived in the chaos of a startup. ✅So next time you’re hiring an exec for your startup, don’t just look at the resume. if you are a good email sender on shared infrastructure you are paying a reputation tax on shared domains and ips, trust is pooled that means: - your engagement props up weaker senders - your clean lists offset someone elses complaints - their bad behavior caps your upside in plain english: bad senders do not earn trust they borrow yours shared infrastructure rewards the worst behavior in the pool the best senders eventually stop sharing credibility not because they have a deliverability problem but because they do not want to subsidize one if you know your metrics are strong and you are still on shared resources it might be time to isolate your reputation if you want to talk through what moving to dedicated looks like without blowing up deliverability feel free to dm me

Every service business founder I talk to says the same thing… "I just need more leads. If I had more pipeline, I'd grow." I've had over a dozen conversations recently with founders between $10K and $40K MRR. Every single one said their bottleneck was sales. Then I asked… "How are you spending your day right now?" One founder was spending 85% of his time on delivery and team management. About 90 minutes went to sales. He'd hired a sales person for 3 months. Target was 1 new client. Zero results. But the sales hire wasn't the problem. The founder had no time to support the effort. No time to follow up on warm leads. He was buried in operations he couldn't let go of. His sales problem was a bandwidth problem underneath. I see this constantly… Founder handles 60-80% of client work personally. Team executes tasks but doesn't own outcomes. Sales gets whatever time is left. Sales stays inconsistent because it gets the scraps. Founder blames the pipeline. Nobody sells your service better than you at this stage. But you can't sell when you're drowning in delivery. If you're convinced you need more leads… Count how many hours a day you're actually spending on sales. The answer usually tells you everything.
