There’s a ton of manual labor in the design process that’s ripe for automation. From generating detailed specs, screens, and annotations for delivery to fine-tuning a usability script to remove bias, there are plenty of places where experienced, savvy designers can find real gains with generative UI. The rub of course is that a lot of the current stack of tools unleash effectively design superpowers to folks who are inexperienced or lack the savvy (some would call it taste, but I think it's harder won skills than that) to determine whether the magic shiny thing is actually _good_. I'm very bullish on AI to reduce the menial and mundane, thereby creating space for increased human-to-human collaboration and ultimately design impact and efficacy, but for now, I'm very much checking the machine's receipts. #DesignLeadership #ProductDesign #AIDesign #DesignCraft #HumanInTheLoop #UXStrategy #DesignMaturity

Figma Grid is here! (beta) It sounds great: organize, align, and place content into responsive layouts. But… It’s not really a full code like grid. It's more like a bento grid. 1. You can’t wrap items inside the grid. 2. No support for variables for gaps or sizes. 3. You can’t reuse column sizes as child sizes. 4. It is only responsive in one viewport at a time. So, if I want a 12-column grid on desktop and a 4-column one on mobile? Nope. If I want a 6-column child on desktop and full-width on mobile? Nope again. Config 2025 had a lot of cool stuff (Sites, Make, Draw with variables 😍), but GRID needs a lot more love. Please, Figma fix the grid. It could be amazing. 🙏

Great article and I agree! The real power of AI in our field isn’t just automation. It’s augmentation. It’s not about replacing the human lens — it’s about expanding it.
