I didn't start Boxfort | Apparel & Fashion Fulfillment because I loved logistics. I started it because I HATED my 3PL. Sam Mendelsohn and I were running 3 ecommerce brands. All apparel and jewelry. Over 1000 SKUs each. We were growing and needed a 3PL. Found one that seemed legit. Total fcking disaster. Lost inventory. Support tickets took days. PLUS They had no idea how to handle apparel. They mixed up shipments, shipped clothing covered in dust. Stuffed them in poly bags and shipped them wrinkled. Customers were pissed. Return rate spiked. We spent hours fixing their mistakes. Around that time, we signed a new 10K SF warehouse. Needed to fill it fast and we were early ShipHero users. Software was very solid. I thought "we already do fulfillment for our brands. We understand apparel. Maybe we could do this for others." Took 6 months to get processes tight enough to offer as a service. That was the start. Why apparel only? We'd been doing it for 15 years. We knew how to store it. How critical accuracy is with high SKU counts. And we owned brands ourselves. We know what founders needed. Not what 3PLs THOUGHT they needed. What I didn't know: Pick and pack? Easiest part. It's the carrier billing. Chargebacks. Random fees months later. SOPs. Maintaining consistency when labor is a revolving door. Most complicated business that looks simple. My biggest lesson (so far): Stick to your niche. Really stick to it. We once took a B2B airsoft brand. Bulky items. Heavy packages. Nothing like our wheelhouse. Total mismatch. Our rates are built for under 2lb apparel. We get insane discounts there. 30lb+ packages? No idea what we were doing. Only client we've parted with. If it's not apparel or accessories, we say no. If I could tell myself one thing: Double down on who you take. Triple down. Don't chase revenue. Chase fit. Processes compound when you're disciplined. 15 perfect clients beats 50 mediocre ones. What people get wrong: They think it's simple. "Just pick, pack, ship." It's simple. Until it's not. Carrier issues. Inventory accuracy. Labor. Communication. Returns. Peak planning. It's a thankless business. Always putting out fires. But that's why our clients stay with us. We're there within minutes on Slack. Every day. Running a 3PL isn't about logistics. It's about understanding your clients business, and making their customers happy. Because we ran brands ourselves, we know what founders care about. It's not "cheap fulfillment." It's "I trust these people not to screw up my brand." That's Boxfort | Apparel & Fashion Fulfillment. Monday Retail Brand Thoughts...It's All The Consumers Fault There is nothing wrong with your store, for the most part. The problem is that the consumer’s values now pivot with every 3-second video they watch. We don’t read. We don’t watch full-length anything. Sixty-second ads are fossils. Values are shifting as fast as thumbs can swipe, and if your brand can’t keep pace, it becomes background noise. Here’s the uncomfortable truth: your “brand pillars” aren’t pillars anymore; they need to be Velcro. They must grab instantly, or everything falls off. Loyalty is elastic. Attention is leased by the second. Discovery happens in microbursts, and purchase occurs the moment trust and convenience intersect, often outside your territory. If you’re still running quarterly campaigns, you’re playing chess in a pinball machine. Provocations for the week: Compress the promise: Can a stranger “get” your brand in six words or less without a video? Speed to wow: What are the first 5 seconds of your homepage, store entry, and product page doing? It must be a hook. Kill the dead shelf: Every square foot must either convert or collect data to help conversion. Embrace AI Price ≠ value: Value is now time saved + friction removed + surprise delivered. Measure that. Instant commerce mindset: Assume the customer will decide in under 10 seconds, redesign and rethink for that reality. AI as merchandiser: Let AI test 100 versions of your hero image, headline, and offer, today, not next quarter. Your future strategies are in the darkest places you are reluctant to look at. And if you don't test them, someone else will. Your store isn’t broken. Your operating speed is slow because the consumer is moving faster.
