In the world of business, technology is growing at an astounding rate. When we study the advances in technology and combine them with the trend of business process outsourcing and consulting we begin to realize the true growth potential of the Project Centric Organization. On the other hand, while business intelligence has made tremendous advances in recent years, the development of key performance indicators has been focused on operational intelligence in the supply chain, or predictive analytics for sales and marketing. As business becomes increasingly competitive for the Project Centric Organization, managers will need reliable, timely information to optimize sales and service opportunities while minimizing expenses. The emergence of project based business intelligence will have a profound impact on how these organizations are managed and I propose an in-depth analysis of those effects.
Environment
As the need for a business intelligence solution to service the project centric organization has been identified, the enterprise software giants of the world have begun presenting solutions to service that need. In particular my research will focus on the recent release of OBI Project Analytics by Oracle Corporation. This new offering is a business intelligence solution that is intended to be used by a services firm, or any other firm who relies on project accounting. The solution provides analytics based on project data including forecast, budgets, cost, revenue, billing and profitability. The analysis of the defined KPI’s are used by management to reduce project costs by increasing transparency of those costs and identifying opportunities to improve efficient cost management. The tool will also attempt to maximize cash-flow and minimize paper for a services organization by optimizing billing and payment.
