Here’s my take on the Claude Code for COBOL Craze (C4) announcement: We have yet to see the results of anything in this space, i.e. the first successful claude code enabled COBOL -> conversion, this could simply be irrational exuberance. It was a blog post. Published by a company seeking to IPO in a few months. (Everyone with an IQ higher than 2 SD’s to the left of the mean should understand that NO serious COBOL modernization is likely to be completed pre-IPO) Perhaps a little skepticism is warranted? I've done enough work in regulated/high reliability environments (banking, fintech, healthcare, nuclear, etc...) to know that those companies certainly will approach this with a healthy dose of skepticism, even if the markets are all in. The announcement may mean far more long term for Anthropic’s share price than IBMs.
