What started as isolated clinic rollouts is now evolving into something more structured, tech-enabled, and patient-centric. We’re seeing early signs of maturity across legacy specialties, alongside a new cohort of models emerging in areas like aesthetics, pediatric neurology, and transition care. This also means that the next-gen founders need to respond to rising consumer expectations around outcomes, transparency and continuity of care. 2025 might be one of the most transformational years for Indian Healthcare. After tracking 50+ healthcare fundraises this year, a few powerful themes are emerging: 🔹 AI is no longer “experimental” in healthcare. We’re seeing AI agents in diagnosis, radiology, medical writing, prior authorization, hospital workflows and insurance claims. 🔹 Oncology is getting reshaped. New cancer centers, precision diagnostics, exosome-based therapies, neuro-AI tools — it feels like the beginning of a massive wave. 🔹 NRI-focused care is becoming a major white space. Parent-care platforms, medical travel for surgeries/IVF, US-focused mental health infrastructure — India is becoming part of a global healthcare network. 🔹 Longevity & preventive health are entering mainstream India. Molecular testing, full-body imaging, personalised health plans — the category is booming. 🔹 DeepTech is back. Obesity vaccines, biosensing chips for wearables, microneedle delivery systems, regenerative cell therapies — all from Indian founders. In short, 2025 is not about “incremental” healthcare innovation. It’s a reset year. Premiering now on the Digital Health Heavyweights Podcast I have a conversation with the co founder and CEO of Bonfire Analytics Vinay Nagaraj! One great moment was when Vinay says that while business moves at the speed of trust, so does sales. I could not agree more. Aditya Narayan and I are proud to share a Health Affairs Scholar piece on CMMI's new ACCESS payment model. ACCESS will pay for care delivered by AI (with or without a clinician) for Medicare patients. This is the first time ever Medicare will pay for care without a person in the loop. It is for chronic-disease management: recurring, condition-specific payments tied to clinical improvement, rather than billing for discrete encounters or tightly defined remote-monitoring activities. The promise is straightforward, more reimbursement for technology-enabled longitudinal care and more choice and competition for patient care. It could lead to lots of startup and innovation. It could also lead to lots of hard to cancel subscriptions and FWA. There are still many unanswered questions about payment levels, how quality is measured, how risk is adjusted, and how these patients’ facing technology enabled services will coordinate care with the traditional delivery systems. https://lnkd.in/grDfXDH5

How are the public for-profit's thinking about tech and AI adoption? Deploying at scale - Ardent Health. AI scribe at 85% adoption, 35% documentation time reduction. Medical wearables reducing mortality by 15% and LOS by ~0.3 days. Virtual care expansion to 2,000+ rooms. The single-instance Epic platform is the enabler and I can remember this being called out as a strategic advantage to the org in its S-1. Most ambitious strategic vision: HCA Healthcare. Three-domain framework (administrative, operational, clinical). The "holy grail" of clinical AI using HCA's proprietary database for pattern recognition to support physician decision-making. EHR transition to standardize datasets. $400M resiliency program leveraging digital transformation. Most practical near-term deployment: UHS. Hippocratic AI partnership for agentic AI in post-discharge care. Revenue cycle AI for claims appeals. Behavioral health intake/referral AI. Patient safety technology for behavioral settings. Filton acknowledged difficulty in precise quantification but cited reduced headcount and improved readmissions. Most transformative (maybe?) infrastructure play: Community Health Systems. Oracle ERP generating ~$50M in savings in Year 1. Single item master across the enterprise. Quarterly AI functionality updates from Oracle cloud. AI in claims appeals, autonomous coding, prior authorization. Also deploying AI-augmented virtual patient sitters and ambient listening. Most "structural" framing: Tenet Healthcare. Technology-enabled expense management through global business centers and clinical throughput optimization. Emphasized this is "modernization" not traditional cost-cutting. Separately, digital integration with payers for electronic data exchange and administrative simplification is driving working capital improvements. My question is - when do these efforts meaningfully move margin profiles. I do think it's sooner rather than later.

Excited to share that Bessemer Venture Partners has led Sukino Continuum Care’s $31M Series B, backing a category that India’s healthcare system has quietly ignored for far too long: long-term recovery and rehabilitation. I come from a family of doctors, and I’ve grown up watching how stretched our healthcare system can be, especially for patients who survive the acute phase of an illness, only to be left on their own for recovery. Over the last few years, that conviction has only strengthened: India doesn’t just need more hospitals, it needs a new layer of care focused on getting people back to living. The country accounts for ~10% of global stroke cases, and millions of patients each year need 6-8 weeks of physical, speech, occupational, and psychological therapy after events like stroke, cancer, or major orthopedic surgery. Yet the healthcare infrastructure is not optimized for slow, structured work of recovery. Families are left to bridge that gap on their own. That’s what Sukino bridges. I first met Rajinish M. back in 2017, and what stood out even then was the clarity of the problem he and Shalini Menon were trying to solve: building dedicated, protocol-driven recovery centers for patients who need weeks, not days, of care. Today, Sukino operates 850+ beds across 11 centers in Bangalore, Kochi, and Coimbatore, delivering multidisciplinary rehab for stroke, neuro, oncology, and ortho patients. Two powerful tailwinds are now making this model work at scale:  • Insurance is finally starting to cover 60–90 days of structured rehab, making quality recovery affordable.  • Families are becoming more open to institutional recovery, recognizing that specialized environments lead to better outcomes. At Bessemer, we believe organized, single-specialty healthcare platforms will be the next big unlock for India, and Sukino is building exactly that for long-term care.
