Despite this challenging decision, we remain incredibly proud of our achievements over this nearly eight-year journey and are grateful to everyone who supported us. Today, we've made the difficult decision to bring this project to a close. Reflecting on our time spent in the Computer Lab, we're filled with pride for what we've accomplished and gratitude for the support we've received from both organizations and individuals along the way. This journey has been a significant part of our lives, and we hope that our work will continue to be a valuable resource for future researchers and practitioners in the fields of data analysis and functional programming. Despite our best efforts to find a financially viable path to sustain the development, we were unable to do so. Life has taken us, Liang and Jianxin, in new directions—moving to different countries, embarking on new career paths, and facing new challenges. I appreciated the chance to throw out some of the bleeding edge stuff we’re doing and get a tonne of feedback. I gotta say I’m really digging the general sense of optimism and sense of momentum from all the ARIA staff I talk to. There’s a “can do” attitude that’s sometimes been missing from the general discourse in the UK in recent years, and I greatly enjoyed all the discussions across programs. It was also delightful to see top functional programmer Kathleen Fisher there (who is also their new CEO!). Thanks Ilan Gur for the invitation!

Yesterday I gave a keynote at the DELTA Summer Workshop in Turku. I spoke about our current work at the intersection of academia and (regulated) industry at Turun yliopisto - University of Turku and LifeFactFuture (LFF). One part of the talk looked at digital twins as a way to test ML models under real-world conditions. And main message: Trustworthy ML is not just about accuracy, it also needs interpretability and reliability when models are applied to real-world sensor data. Thank you to Jari Nurmi for the invitation, and to my supervisor Aleksandr Ometov for the support (and the photo). It was also a pleasure to reconnect with colleagues from Tampere University.

🎓Delivered a talk today at the Quantum Technology Summer School at FH Technikum Wien on "Bridging the Gap: From low-level quantum software to industrial applications." Given the number and nature of the questions raised by the audience, the topic resonated very well. In summary, bridging the gap from low-level quantum software to (industrial) applications requires spanning two dimensions: 1️⃣ A systematic approach from understanding the the application, selecting an algorithm, and building a proof-of-concept or prototype. 2️⃣ A (software-)stack that provides suitable abstraction on all the important levels. Many thanks to Hermann Detz, Matthias Blatnik, and team for the organization and the support. Yesterday, it was announced that the NordForsk project that Jens Emil Grønbæk and I were part of proposing in the spring got funded! The project is called RAID: Responsible AI in Interaction Design Practice and addresses how AI can be used to enrich instead of undermine the professional practice of designing interactive products and systems. The project is led by Professor Frode Guribye from University of Bergen (UiB) with collaborators at University of Gothenburg, Tampere University, and IT-Universitetet i København. Jens Emil will co-manage a work package on Participatory design of AI tools for design work, and I will lead a work package with a PhD student at Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University exploring the potential of so-called generative UIs in interaction design; tools that can continuously be adapted to shifting needs and work practices. Do you too operate hundreds of km of busy roads? Yes? Do like Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and work with us at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Elonroad and Michael Baker International to assess if it makes sense for you to install electric road systems (#ERS). At the onset of this project, we hypothesize this will let PA Turnpike: - greatly reduce the cost for road users (mainly freight) to transition to electric vehicles; - make zero-emission trucks lighter, reducing the wear and tear on the costly road infrastructure; - spend the same on charging infrastructure as PA Turnpike will need to do anyway.
