I traveled to Medellin, Colombia with students from Purdue University to work together with the Universidad de Antioquia to serve a rural community in the outskirts of the city. We did this through educating the children and planning to implement solar panels to power their school. The region we went to was called Altos de Oriente, a region in the mountains where there is much poverty. Here we taught students at a local elementary school named Leon XIII about renewable energy, with an emphasis on solar energy. We had planned activities with the students with snap circuits and small solar racer cars. Spanish being my native tongue, I helped to translate for many of the interactions between the Purdue students and the Leon XIII children during the lessons.

While there we also collected topographical information of the area, drew floor plans of the school, and made estimations of the schools daily power consumption. All of these are metrics that we needed to make changes to our solar panel structure design and adapt to the region.
