I was recently talking to a Product Manager at J.P. Morgan London. #Day72 of #HelpingAspiringPMs100Days We were discussing about the roles and responsibilities of a Product Manager at JP Morgan. In all MNCs, senior management, such as the Director of Product or VP of Product, decides what functionalities are going to be built, and the Product Manager works and executes these functionalities within a given time frame. However, in a Start-up, you will collaborate with the CEO to determine the functionalities we should build. As everything has its pros and cons. In a startup, you have more control over product decision-making compared to MNCs. MNCs can offer higher salaries than start-ups. Would you like to join a start-up or a Large MNC?

💥 Product management isn’t dying — it’s evolving into a builder sport. 🚀 Over the last few years, product management has quietly shifted from a coordination role to a creation role. The PMs who will thrive in the next decade won’t be the best meeting-runners- they’ll be the best builders. Here’s where PM is really heading 👇 🧨 1. Fewer “traditional” PM jobs, more elite PM roles AI-native companies are delaying PM hires and running insanely lean teams. Talent density > headcount. The message? Only PMs who truly add leverage will survive.​ 🛠️ 2. “PM-as-communicator” is out. “PM-as-builder” is in. If your day is 90% docs, meetings, and stakeholder updates, the ground under you is already shifting. AI has collapsed idea → prototype to HOURS, and teams expect PMs who can: - Spin up scrappy prototypes - Dogfood their own product - Ship, learn, repeat on tight loops​ 🎓 3. Certificates don’t impress. Proof of work does. That shiny “AI PM” badge on your LinkedIn? Cute. Climbing the ladder can pull you away from the craft The article makes a hard point: the higher you go, the less you build.
