I’m excited to be presenting at AIAA SciTech 2026 next week in Orlando. Our Eos Atomics team, in collaboration with Kevin Bowcutt and the University of Maryland, has been exploring direct fusion-to-air heat exchanger windows for hypersonic propulsion applications. This work tackles a demanding set of challenges - surviving extreme temperatures, radiation, and pressure differentials, while maintaining chemical compatibility in both oxygen and hydrogen-rich environments. One particularly compelling outcome of this study is the identification of novel hypersonic operating envelopes that appear well suited for direct fusion-driven propulsion. These occur at extreme altitudes (>130,000 ft), where dynamic pressure and thermal loads are significantly reduced - beyond the limits of conventional combustion, yet still firmly within the realm of sustained flight. We’re looking forward to sharing these results at SciTech and engaging in discussions on what this could mean for the future of high-altitude, high-speed flight. With the K1000ULE participating at both U.S. Army 'Ivy Sting 4' and 'Ivy Sting 5' events, the K1000ULE is now deeply integrated into the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) ecosystem through Anduril’s Lattice platform. The K1000ULE brings a slew of long-endurance autonomous capabilities directly into the Army’s emerging digital battlefield architecture. Lattice serves as a software-defined command and control environment that connects sensors, platforms, and decision-makers through a common data layer; enabling machine-to-machine coordination and dramatically accelerating battlefield decision cycles. With this integration, the K1000ULE becomes a fully networked airborne node within NGC2, capable of being strategically maneuvered directly from Lattice with autonomous tasking and multi-payload mission execution. Commanders can dynamically position the K1000ULE across the battlespace while Lattice coordinates sensor data, mission priorities, and operational objectives. This allows the K1000ULE’s persistent endurance to translate into real operational advantage, placing a long-duration ISR and effects platform exactly where the battlefield requires it. The integration extends far beyond flight control. Through Lattice, operators can task the K1000ULE’s EO/IR FMV to autonomously slew to targets, track activity, and assist in identifying threats, while simultaneously ingesting ELINT data collected onboard the K1000ULE to detect and geolocate hostile emitters with precision coordinates. These detections can be shared instantly across the NGC2 network, providing commanders with actionable intelligence that can support targeting and time-sensitive decision-making across the formation. Finally, the K1000ULE strengthens the digital backbone of the battlefield itself. Using the K1000ULE's Aerial Tier Networking Extension (ATNE) capability, the aircraft can dynamically provide communications relay and resilient data connectivity across dispersed forces, even in comms degraded environments. When combined with Lattice’s distributed mesh architecture, the result is a persistent airborne platform that senses, connects, and supports operations across the Army’s evolving NGC2 framework. I’ve been reading Arthur C. Clarke’s The Exploration of Space (published in 1951) and it’s incredible how relevant it still feels to modern spacecraft design. Clarke intuitively broke vehicles into the same subsystems we integrate today—propulsion, GNC, structures, thermal, life support—and understood how tightly coupled they must be to succeed. The chapters that explain the need from staging and complex fuel transfer are beautifully explained.  For anyone working in space engineering, it’s a humbling reminder that the challenges we tackle now were already visible to those who looked at the problem with first principles in hand and imagination. Now let's go tackle them!

Firehawk Aerospace completed the first flight test of its 3D-printed hybrid rocket engine system, the GMLRS-class Firehawk Analog (GFA), under its Phase III SBIR contract with the Army Applications Laboratory (AAL). The hybrid rocket reached 18,000 ft in vertical ascent, surpassed the speed of sound, and demonstrated directional stability and thrust performance from a mobile launch platform. This milestone highlights the adaptability, affordability, and rapid production advantages of combining hybrid propulsion with additive manufacturing. Episode 3: The Frequency Revolution] 🔄⚡ In traditional spaceflight, a launch is an "event." At EMLS, a launch is a "heartbeat." The biggest bottleneck in current space logistics isn't just the cost; it's the turnaround time. A chemical rocket needs weeks or months of refurbishment, fueling, and weather-window hunting. Our physical modeling at EMLS changes the math of orbital access entirely. 1. The "Turnaround" Math: Chemical Rockets: Rely on complex mechanical systems and volatile fuels. Even the most advanced reusable rockets require significant inspection intervals between launches. EMLS Propulsion Grid: Since we use a Static Propulsion Grid and a 100% electrical system, there is no combustion stress or soot buildup on the infrastructure. This allows for a high-frequency launch cadence, limited only by the cooling cycles of our superconducting magnets. 2. Scalability by the Numbers: Daily Throughput: While a traditional launch pad might handle 1-2 launches a month, the EMLS 45.8 km track is designed to handle multiple capsule injections daily. Massive Delivery: By launching smaller 10-meter capsules at a frequency of 10-20 launches per day, we can deliver more net mass to orbit than a fleet of heavy-lift rockets, at a fraction of the cost. 3. The ROI Logic: Traditional ROI: High risk, high insurance, and capital locked in "one-shot" vehicles. EMLS ROI: We are seeing a projected 12x Return on Investment. Why?
