In Southern California, each region is telling its own story, shaped by community needs, provider growth, and workforce dynamics. Here’s what we’re seeing across my territory (North LA County/ Kern County: 📍 Lancaster / Palmdale - Strong demand for clinical support staff—especially MAs, LVNs, and front office coordinators. - Bilingual candidates are highly sought after in patient-facing roles. - Employers are leaning into training and upskilling to retain local talent. 📍 North Los Angeles (Glendale, Burbank) - Revenue cycle and compliance roles are heating up, especially in multi-specialty groups. - Candidates are prioritizing commute times and parking access—yes, really. - Hybrid admin roles are gaining traction, but on-site leadership remains key. 📍 San Fernando Valley - Outpatient surgical centers are staffing up—RNs, surgical techs, and schedulers are in demand. - Private practices are competing with health systems by offering flexibility and culture. - Tech-savvy candidates are standing out, even in non-clinical roles. 📍 Santa Clarita - Growth in compliance, credentialing, and patient experience roles. - Candidates are looking for stability and growth, not just salary. - Local talent is strong—but many are commuting out. Contingent labor and temporary talent are becoming more than just “flex staffing”. They’re a strategic response to a changing workforce. With the new H-1B lottery rule favoring higher wage levels, companies will need to rethink how they source key talent. That shift, combined with tighter immigration enforcement and rising costs from tariffs, is forcing organizations to look beyond traditional hiring. Many will rely more on temporary talent, L-1 transfers, and flexible workforce models to stay agile. At the same time, employee expectations are rising. Organizations that meet those needs attract and retain the talent that will propel their business.

Staffing Industry Pulse Survey - September 2025 The latest Staffing Industry Analysts Pulse Survey reveals flat year-over-year revenue growth across US staffing firms, with IT and locum tenens leading at +5%, while travel nursing and per diem segments declined. Client delays are hitting small firms hardest - 30% report paused projects vs. just 13% for large firms. Yet, large firms saw a 3% revenue decline, while mid-sized firms posted a 1% increase, and small firms remained flat. Despite challenges, new orders are up 10%, but sales and recruiting difficulties persist, signaling a tough demand environment. The takeaway? Mid-sized firms seem to be navigating the turbulence better, possibly due to greater agility.
