I wrote a deeper dive about General Motors' eyes-off driver-assist technology planned for 2028 after sitting down with Sterling Anderson, GM's new chief product officer (link to the interview in comments). GM would be one of the first in the U.S. with an eyes-off system, which poses opportunities for new software and services revenue but also regulatory and liability questions still to be worked out. GM says it will roll out the system incrementally so that it can build trust. https://lnkd.in/ewQwCRAG

GM's new chief product officer has been making some notable moves and has ambitious goals for the automaker. I sat down and talked with him about joining GM, his expectations for the automaker and why he believes GM can become a tech leader in products: GM Chief Product Officer Sterling Anderson, who left the self-driving car company Aurora Innovation that he co-founded to join GM in June, has quickly become the most influential product executive in more than 15 years, outside of GM President Mark Reuss. He has consolidated power to oversee "the end-to-end product lifecycle" of GM vehicles, including manufacturing engineering, battery, software and services product management, and engineering teams, according to GM. His appointment is a refocus for the automaker on software-defined vehicles and autonomy. He said GM's goal is to build an autonomous vehicle, which comes a year after the company disbanded its majority-owned Cruise AV business following years of development and billions of dollars in capital.

GM and Chevrolet tried repeatedly to boost sales but GM admits that EV demand didn't grow as planned. So Chevy drops BrightDrop production because of falling EV demand. https://lnkd.in/eM3tC8Ug Going forward GM is placing the EVs under the Chevrolet brand so the vans will get a much wider sales and distribution network. Chevrolet reaches all over the world and now the two different BrightDrop models, now called the 2025 Chevrolet BrightDrop 600 EV or 2025 Chevrolet BrightDrop 400 EV, will have a much greater reach.
