The results of MES Computing's IT Spending Intent survey of senior midmarket IT leaders have been published! A surprising takeaway -- not a lot of significant plans for AI budgets, rather, "Midmarket IT leaders said they are allocating budgets for VARs and solution providers (57.1 percent), MSPs (55.8 percent) and cloud service providers (53.2 percent)." A few other revelations: 💻Forty-four percent of midmarket IT leaders surveyed said that 2 percent to 5 percent of their organization’s revenue is spent on IT. 💻A majority said that 21 percent to 50 percent of their organization’s IT budget was spent on cloud services. 💻Despite a lot of noise about AI in 2025, over 75 percent of IT leaders said that less than 5 percent of their IT budget was spent on GenAI. And over 80 percent said that they spent less than 5 percent of their budget on agentic AI. 💻36.5 percent said 11 percent to 20 percent of their IT budget was spent on cybersecurity. 🔗Link to full research in comments!

Solution selling is a sales methodology that Mike Bosworth founded in the late 1980s from his experience at Xerox Corporation. From my experience, solution selling involves a lot of questioning and may disinterest your purchasers. Rather than selling specific products, salespeople leverage solution-selling leads with the benefits a custom solution can provide for the prospect.
