The $30T global labor market doesn’t yield to demos. It yields to systems that generalize under messy, real production constraints.
Six months ago,
KUKA set out to tackle one of the final frontiers in technology:
#Autonomous #robots that can seamlessly collaborate,
#learn from each other and
#generalize their skills.
Industrial robots excel at repetitive tasks – following predefined motions, over and over again, with precision and reliability. Adapting to change, however, requires additional configuration effort, expertise, and resources.
We’re entering the era of “intelligent robots” – systems powered by
#AI that can learn instead of being explicitly programmed.
But there’s a problem.
AI-first robots can perform impressive lab demonstrations, but they struggle in the real world. AI models need to understand the nuances of each physical environment to deliver the repeatable production precision that the industry requires. This confines
#Physical AI to lab projects.
What does it take to generalize Physical AI?
The solution is a platform layer between the AI and the physical hardware that includes three foundational elements:
➡️ Semantics (reasoning) – Intent-based operations that generalize the real world into machine-understandable meaning. This lets AI reason about outcomes rather than operational minutia.
➡️ Actions (acting) – A shared control interface with standardized actions so AI agents can execute intent consistently across different robots.
➡️ Data (meaning) – Structured telemetry that captures real world execution context, providing a source of truth that gives AI models meaning.
This platform layer between AI and the physical hardware abstracts, observes, acts – repeats – and predicts. It does so in a closed loop, optimizing across the real world and an embedded digital twin, creating a continuous improvement cycle.
Introducing KUKA AMP.
I’m excited to introduce our agentic KUKA Automation Management Platform (KUKA AMP) at
NVIDIA #GTC 2026 - an autonomic control plane, a Physical AI training and distribution medium, and an
#Agentic AI management and operations center. It provides a single pane of glass for scaled Physical AI production deployments. KUKA AMP unlocks Physical AI to form utility networks across massive automation TAMs.
We’re beginnig to deploy KUKA AMP on mobile robots on real factory floors, performing intralogistics missions. KUKA AMP is accelerating ops significantly, replacing routine tasks “in the loop” with human creativity “on the loop.” It can empower human physical ingenuity and, we believe, ultimately pave a path towards Physical AGI.
This would not be possible without an extraordinary team — my gratitude goes to the amazing people who help making this happen:
Melonee Wise,
Nathan Koenig,
Claudio Fleiner, Ernani Westarb,
Mark Wezner,
Christoph Schell and the KUKA team!
