Annie Flippo shared thisThe #AI releases of the last few months have genuinely changed the game. We've moved from #vibecoding to something that actually earns a seat at the engineering table. And the developers benefiting most? The ones who already think in systems and functionality, who sketch pseudocode during scoping, plan before they type, and use AI to accelerate what they've already mapped out, not to replace the problem solving or critical thinking but to augment it. Asking AI to "just build me this app from scratch" works about as well as handing a contractor a napkin sketch and saying "build this house for me". Which brings me to the part nobody puts in the hype posts: speed without guardrails isn't velocity, it's a disaster waiting to happen. If you're letting AI touch the foundational layers of your codebase, think inheritance in OOP, slow down and be intentional. AI-generated code should be labeled in your merge requests, and at least one human developer needs to be in that review loop. Not as a formality or lay the burden on a human when things go wrong but as a safeguard. You don't need to drive like you're in Formula 1 to win the race. Consistent, deliberate, 60 mph gets you there and without the wreckage. Build faster. Merge carefully. Review everything. #softwareengineer #MLOps #developer #datascience #coding

Annie Flippo shared this𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲? A recent MIT Media Lab study, https://lnkd.in/gEsgrxbv, flagged something worth sitting with: heavy reliance on AI may be contributing to what researchers call "cognitive atrophy," a gradual erosion of our critical thinking abilities. Harvard faculty are asking the same question. I've been thinking about this a lot, especially in the context of hiring. In our recent data science and analyst interviews, I've had candidates openly admit they couldn't explain the difference between an inner join and a cartesian join in SQL because they can always ask AI. Let that sink in a bit. If you don't understand the foundation, how would you ever know if the AI-generated answer is actually correct? AI is a powerful accelerant. But accelerating in the wrong direction is still going the wrong direction. Companies still need curious, technically grounded problem-solvers who can direct AI, interrogate its output, and know when it's wrong. The most valuable professionals won't be those who use AI the most. They'll be those who use it the most wisely. The skills of discernment, evaluation, judgment, and thoughtful planning are now more crucial than ever precisely because they cannot be outsourced to AI. What are you seeing in your own hiring? Are foundational skills eroding or evolving? And as a job seeker, how are you positioning yourself as an outstanding candidate? #AI #datascience #machinelearning #hiring

Annie Flippo shared thisTrue event. This is how ChatGPT responded to a request to create some funny jokes and stories for a band to entertain the crowd between sets. Here's a snippet of the suggestions. Read my original substack article for the full response (too funny). 🤖 “Good evening, everyone. It is a privilege to be with you tonight. On behalf of the band, we’d like to thank you for ‘investing’ your time with us. Our objective this evening is simple: 100% satisfaction in the department of Rock and Soul. We’re going to dive right into a track from 1982’s H2O—an album that, much like this audience, exceeded all quarterly projections.” 🤖 “We appreciate the enthusiasm. Now, looking at the data, the song we’re about to play spent four weeks at Number One starting in December of 1982. It’s a cautionary tale about predatory networking, if you will. We’ve optimized the arrangement for maximum groove. Please, feel free to leverage the dance floor for this one.” 🤖 “As we enter our final phase of the evening, we want to express our sincere gratitude. Success in this industry is built on a loyal ‘client base,’ and your energy tonight has been world-class. We’d like to close this segment with a track that has been streamed over a billion times. It turns out, ‘making dreams come true’ is a very sustainable business model.” https://lnkd.in/gS9uRVXW #AI #Chatgpt

If your datasets are poorly labeled, you’re inviting a host of issues like noise, bias, and inconsistencies that can seriously hurt your model's accuracy and reliability when it’s out in the wild. That's why data labeling has evolved from being just a preliminary step into a vital part of engineering and operations in the AI lifecycle.

You trained the model. You trusted the output. But can you trace the data that led to the decision? 👀 AI in analytics isn’t dangerous because it’s wrong. It’s dangerous because it’s convincing, even when it’s wrong. 📰 This article breaks down the real risks of AI-powered insights and how to design for trust with traceability, governance, and human oversight. Data silos are one of the biggest roadblocks to efficient analytics and AI workflows. MinIO’s new Aistor Table Sharing is designed to tear down those barriers by enabling direct, on-premises data access from Databricks without copying or duplicating data. Key takeaways: • Aistor Table Sharing lets Databricks query on-prem MinIO data directly, eliminating data movement. • This approach reduces complexity, storage sprawl, and latency for hybrid and on-prem use cases. • By keeping data in place while supporting modern analytics and AI consumption, organizations can accelerate time to insight. AtScale

Legacy semantic models were never built for the velocity and complexity of AI-driven analytics. They assume fixed schemas, predictable joins, and a handful of BI queries, not hundreds of dynamic, multi-domain requests from copilots and agents. AtScale’s AI-powered modeling engine changes that through an adaptive feedback loop. It continuously analyzes warehouse metadata, query logs, and lineage to infer semantic relationships and hierarchies automatically. When candidate metrics or joins are discovered, they’re surfaced for human validation, accepted, rejected, or refined, and those outcomes feed back into the model’s learning system. All of this runs on AtScale’s composable semantic architecture, governed through Semantic Modeling Language (SML). Every suggestion, update, and approval is version-controlled, reversible, and fully auditable. It’s modeling that scales with your data, not against it. 🔗 Learn more:

Excited to be hosting a free webinar with NACM (National Association of Credit Management) on AI prompt engineering for modern credit teams Tuesday, March 31 at 3:00 PM ET. The session is based on a whitepaper Handle and NACM co-developed: "Turning One-Off AI Chats into Reliable Credit Workflows." Here's the thing...most credit professionals are already using ChatGPT or Claude. They open a tab, ask a question, get an answer that ranges from useful to generic, and close the tab. Nothing saved. Nothing repeatable. In this session, I'll walk through: ❓ The four-question framework that turns generic AI output into near-ready drafts 📄 Six named prompt patterns mapped to everyday credit tasks (collections, financial analysis, contract review, disputes) 📅 A 90-day plan for building a shared prompt library across your team (no IT involvement, no new software) If you manage credit risk, write collection letters, review contracts, or prepare escalation memos...this is practical, immediately usable content. A recent Amazon paper on Insight Agents is an example of the agentic AI patterns and agentic analytics systems I’ve been writing about recently. The system follows an orchestrator–worker pattern: a manager agent handles intent detection, routing, and control; specialized agents perform data retrieval and insight generation; and LLMs are used primarily for reasoning and synthesis, not execution. Analytics is treated as a plan-and-execute workflow, with governance built directly into the architecture through out-of-domain detection, API-based data access, and explicit control flow. Evaluated via human review, the system achieves ~90% accuracy with interactive latency (~14s P90)—showing that agentic analytics can be both reliable and operational at scale when orchestration and constraints are first-class design decisions.
