I agree. I'm not sure what it is about GenX. I don't just think it's about experience, I think it's something about our agency, about our "MTV generation" roots. At this point in my life, I've also been used to driving a team, or multiple teams. Teams go sideways and need driving - just like my AI agents - I love working with the AI agents more than teams of humans. They're there, they communicate well.

When writing Aerospike (now 17 years ago), I saw the bottlenecks too. I ended up with O_DIRECT being enough. My answer was: 1) primary indexes 100% in memory, removing disk operations; 2) we had enough cores1) by putting the primary indexes in memory - and spending a lot of complexity doing so - we were only reaching to the SSD when we had actual data to retrieve. Long term awesome jedi master Andy Gooding continually improved that index code to stay ahead of SSD size.2) was because - as an operational DB - we simply didn't have other uses for the cores. Burning so much CPU was a problem, but it was an array with a *lot* of SSDs that caused us to hit the CPU limit. We did *eventually* hit core limits on some machines, and could have used Mark's NVME driver!
