Predictive maintenance for variable load equipment is notoriously difficult — vibration and current readings shift with operating conditions, making static thresholds unreliable. Working with 30 variable operating parameters and 10⁴³ possible combinations for optimization ruled out the possibility for brute force. Instead, we developed and fine-tuned a genetic optimization algorithm that resulted in a solution achieving 88% true positives and just 9% false positives across a 10x variable load range. Because when I receive an email saying only: “Please review and execute” …from a sender I don’t recognize… I’m not clicking the link. That’s not corporate governance. That’s phishing training. Then comes Step 2. Once I finally determine the request is legitimate, I open a 97-page document written in a dialect best described as “defensive legal Esperanto,” and somehow I’m supposed to determine: what action is actually being requested, why it matters, and whether checking Box #1 versus Box #2 has trivial administrative impact… or materially changes my rights as an investor. As an investor in early-stage companies, I receive a lot of these. Most problems could be solved with a simple accompanying note (to be read BEFORE being asked to read/sign the document): what this is, why it’s being sent, what the key points are, and what the practical implications are. A little context dramatically increases the odds the document gets reviewed promptly — instead of sitting untouched while the recipient debates whether the email originated from opposing counsel or a teenager in Belarus.

Yesterday, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong released an important memorandum outlining how existing law already applies to artificial intelligence — a signal worth watching closely for companies operating across U.S. states: https://lnkd.in/efNwQeMD Rather than waiting for new AI legislation, the memo maps AI risks onto current legal frameworks, including civil rights, consumer protection, privacy, and antitrust laws. For businesses, this reflects a broader trend emerging among state attorneys general that they are willing to enforce under existing consumer protection laws, even while legislation is pending through tools they already possess — from unfair trade practices authority to data protection and discrimination laws. In practice, this means AI governance is rapidly becoming an enforcement question, not just a policy debate.
