I have been on a parental break, with two small children at home. I do manage to find time to tinker on some side projects, but it gets a little lonely. I have started to develop this itch to work with other people, but I am not ready to commit to full-time work right now. I am up for part-time/contract/freelance work. Is anyone looking for some human help with their software projects? I prefer free/open source projects. I work with C, C++, Python, and Haskell. I am happy to learn new languages and tools and idioms and frameworks when necessary.

Bobinson K B shared thisPreviously I posted about Vulture agentic audit suite which can audit software and deployments against various classes of vulnerabilities. While Vulture was not a response to capabilities from newer frontier models like Anthropic's Mythos, it was very clear from the new developments in 2024-2025 that its the direction where the reliability and security posture is changing into. Mythos and various independant audits of the model underlines these core assumptions using which Vulture was built. Now, what if Vulture can be paired with these models itself ? While the frontier models are capable, its always a brute-force "search" in the attack surface and looking for loop holes. Study by AI Security Institute's evaluation of Clause Mythos for example, mentions 100M millions tokens used for evaluations - this is not efficient. Vulture now got an MCP server which can share the findings with any tool similar to Claude Code or Cursor. This means, even before the the reliability issues are reported via tool like Linear or Jira, engineers can do a deep dive and avoid false positives or during the feature development itself address the issues. I have been working on some ideas to audit the code that's being generated for vulnerabilities using existing frameworks like CWEs and combining agentic workflows. Vulture - is an agentic tooling which will help to catch issues in the code which might be missed out by static analysis and other audits. While its infancy, I have been getting considerable success due to the fact that the tool is capable of auditing the source code and verify issues found against deployments. (except Midjourney) I've been thinking about this since ChatGPT Images 2.0 dropped last week. It's a great image model, they're all great now. When every model is great, model quality stops being the reason you pick one platform over another. The differentiator becomes something else entirely, whether the system actually listens to your creative intent, orchestrates the right tools, and gets you to a desired outcome. The model became an implementation detail, a tool, like which database your favorite app runs on. You don't need to know, and you shouldn't have to. Bobinson K B liked thisBobinson K B liked thisEleven years ago, my supervisor Patric Östergård and I invented a new lower bound on the Shannon capacity of C7. It was a small improvement over the Vesel–Žerovnik bound from 2002 — they had c(C7) ≥ 108^(1/4) > 3.2237 from a search in C7^4; we pushed it to c(C7) ≥ 350^(1/5) > 3.2271 by climbing an entire dimension and finding an independent set of size 350 in C7^5. We got there by prescribing cyclic stabilizers on independent sets in C7^5 and running stochastic search on top of a Cliquer-style branch-and-bound. More than two CPU-years of search in total, distributed across the 256-core cluster we had. The record stood for about three years until Polak and Schrijver pushed it further in 2018 — with new mathematics, not more compute. Last week I pointed Claude Code at my thesis and the original codebase. Brief: improve the bound. Try anything. It tried a lot. GPU-accelerated independent set search. Different symmetry groups. Modern SAT and ILP encodings. Tighter pruning. Profile-guided optimizations on the 2014 C code. Hours of agentic work across the repo. It improved nothing. Not a single bound budged. The final recommendation was honestly the funniest part: the most cost-effective path to beating our 2014 number is to rent about $2000 of AWS compute and run our original code at scale. Eleven-year-old combinatorial search code. Two thousand dollars of spot instances. Same code I wrote as a PhD student. There's something quietly humbling here, and not in the direction the AI discourse usually goes. Claude Code did real work and made a defensible engineering call. But it tells you something about where we are: when Polak and Schrijver beat our bound, they did it with new math — a circular graph construction. When a frontier coding agent tried to beat us, the honest answer was "throw money at the original code." Compute keeps getting cheaper. New mathematics doesn't.

The intersection of technology and human nature is where the most significant risks lie. When we talk about AI safety, we often fixate on the technical "how," but the "why" and "who" are far more volatile. We spend hours debating algorithmic bias, data poisoning, and model alignment. But the code isn't what usually breaks first—it’s the human element behind it. While the 10% (The Code) involves building robust guardrails and technical safety layers, the 90% (The Psychology) is where the real complexity lives: The Over-Trust Gap: We tend to anthropomorphize AI, attributing "wisdom" to a statistical model. This leads to automation bias—where humans stop questioning the output. The Incentive Problem: The rush to market often overrides the urge to be cautious. Competitive pressure is a psychological driver that can bypass even the most secure code. The Prompt Paradox: AI reflects us. If the input is driven by human ego, misinformation, or malicious intent, the output is merely a mirror of our own psychological flaws. Adoption Anxiety: The fear of being left behind leads to "shadow AI"—employees using unvetted tools without oversight because the psychological need for efficiency outweighs the perceived risk of a data breach. The Bottom Line You can write the most secure, "aligned" code in the world, but you cannot patch human nature. AI Governance isn't just a technical challenge; it’s a leadership challenge. We need to focus less on "fixing the machine" and more on training the humans who interact with it. #AI #Mindset #TechTrends #HumanElement

Phoenix platform was about creating a modern, API based, scalable and secure financial application with a catch. The solution was originally developed in 2003 in Perl, HTML::Mason & PostreSQL. We extended the platform to provide RESTful APIs, add support for Robust reporting, OAuth2 based SSO etc. All this while maintaining PCI-DSS compliance, IRS integrations etc and without disrupting existing users. The entire user base was migrated to the new platform deployed on AWS from Rackspace. We…

The entire user base was migrated to the new platform deployed on AWS from Rackspace. We have used AWS capabilities as well custom tailored solutions to achieve the goal. The stack now uses Python, Java and Perl in the backend, PostgreSQL load is distributed to Solr, reports relies on Jasper Reports etc. Web application is handled by PHP which consumes the RESTful APIs & uses AngularJS for the presentation layer. Mobility side makes use of the REST APIs. Right now application platform that can be presented and connected to any device starting from smart watches to giant TV screens & support integrations to various financial services.

Recently launched cybersecurity startup Aurva has raised $2.2 Mn (INR 19.4 Cr) in its seed funding round led by Nexus Venture Partners. The round saw participation from early-stage VC firm DeVC, along with other angel investors including ex-Meta director Chris Bream, Pindrop CPO Rahul Sood, Postman founders Ankit Sobti and Abhinav Asthana. The startup will deploy the fresh funds to scale its sales and marketing, expand its security team, deepen AI observability capabilities, and cater to growing demand from India, the US and other global enterprise markets. Founded in 2023 by former Meta engineers Apurv Garg, Krishna Bagadia and Akash Mandal, Aurva provides enterprises an AI-powered data security platform designed to identify, detect, and streamline remediation of internal and external cybersecurity threats in real time.
