It Could Happen Here
HarperCollins
See publication"It Could Happen Here: America on the Brink" was released by HarperCollins in October 2009. The book explores the potentially dangerous impact of growing and extreme economic inequality in the U.S., and on the basis of historical studies, discusses its impact on the long-term health of our democracy and on our political stability.
The book was published two years before Occupy Wall Street brought growing income inequality to national attention. -
Go It Alone!
HarperBusiness
See publication"Go It Alone," published over a decade ago, has been recognized as a continuing source of value on habits of mind and action for successful small group (typically one to five people) entrepreneurship in the rapidly changing Internet era. "Go It Alone," published over a decade ago, has been recognized as a continuing source of value on habits of mind and action for successful small group (typically one to five people) entrepreneurship in the rapidly changing Internet era. The book argued that a key element of the success of small businesses, in the near future, would involve focusing on a core activity at which the company excelled, outsourcing other activities (to what we now call the cloud), and fitting the company's activities within the chain of activities that, in the past, were often handled by a single firm.
In effect, the book accurately forecasts the rise of what we now call cloud-based services, and provided a roadmap for small businesses to succeed in the emerging era.
"Go It Alone!" has been repeatedly recognized for the continuing value, and usefulness, of its insights.
In a unique partnership with HarperCollins, I arranged for the full text of "Go It Alone!" to appear for free, with advertising support, at the time of the paperback's release. This experiment was the first time the full text of a "front-list" book was made available for free on the web. The experiment received widespread coverage, including a central focus in a "U.S. News & World Reports" cover story on "The Exploding Book," and two separate articles in "The New York Times." -

NetMarketing

See publicationI wrote "NetMarketing" at night while working at Time Inc. The book detailed my practical vision of how the Internet would transform advertising, marketing, and selling. The book became a national bestseller, appearing on several bestseller lists, was an alternate selection of the Fortune and Money Book Club, was excerpted in a two-page spread in "Advertising Age" and was among the top 100 selling books on Amazon.com in the year of its publication.
