Chris Norris reacted on thisChris Norris reacted on thisFive and a half years ago, I joined Bicycle Health to help develop out their initial state system. I had no idea what the next few years would look like. This is my last week. When I started in mid-2020, Bicycle Health was a small but growing startup with a very clear mission: make addiction treatment accessible, judgment-free, and effective. The opioid crisis was, and still is, one of the most devastating public health emergencies in the US. Being part of something that genuinely tried to address it felt different from anything I'd worked on before. Over 5.5 years, I watched this company grow from a small early-stage team to the largest telehealth provider for people with opioid use disorder (OUD) in the United States, serving 50,000+ patients across 32 states. And that's not a footnote, that's the whole story. I was lucky to work on things that mattered, from patient-facing products that tens of thousands of people in recovery have relied on daily, to platform infrastructure that helped the clinical and engineering teams scale. I touched nearly every layer of the stack, and every piece of it connected back to someone's care. But honestly, the technical work is the smallest part of what I'll remember. I'll remember the team. Engineers who joined meetings at odd hours to solve complex bugs. Product managers who engaged with technical tradeoffs as true partners, not just ticket owners. Clinicians who took time to explain their workflows so we could build things that truly fit how they worked. The on-call rotations where something would go sideways and we worked together to make it right as quickly as possible. What surprised me most was how the culture made collaboration feel effortless. That says something about the trust, the way people communicated, the genuine investment in making things work. To the people I worked with closely: thank you!. The engineers I mentored, and who also taught me plenty, the leads who pushed me to think big and pragmatically, the colleagues who made our channels feel human and not just transactional. I'm grateful!. I'm proud of what we built together. Not just the features and the systems, but the fact that every piece of it touched someone's recovery, someone's life. That weight is real, and I think our team carried it seriously. I leave knowing the work at Bicycle Health is in good hands and the mission remains very much alive. I'll be cheering from the sidelines. Five and a half years. I wouldn't trade them.

Chris Norris liked thisChris Norris liked thisThe fastest way to lose 12 months as a CTO is trying to solve 'Canada' instead of solving execution. I see this constantly. Smart leaders walk in, see the org chart, the architecture, the roadmap, and immediately start pointing fingers at the ecosystem. That's not the whole story. What was actually broken: hiring one brilliant architect who wouldn't collaborate, running multi-week sprints when estimation collapses past three days, and calling weekly status updates "leadership." Most execution problems are just people problems wearing a technical disguise. The fastest way to lose a year as a CTO is solving for the wrong variable.

The NBA had just announced this year’s All-Star starters, so he figured it was inevitable. He won $170. “It kind of is just pattern recognition,” said Chung, who said he grew up watching a lot of sports and became familiar with how announcers talk. “I just do it on the side for fun.” The 21-year-old college student in Bellevue, Wash., placed the bet on Kalshi, a prediction market that lets people wager on everything from when bitcoin will hit $150,000 to who might be the Republican presidential nominee in 2028. The site and its rival Polymarket have quickly become a part of pop culture, and are especially popular with young men who are drawn by the similarities to sports gambling and day trading. Some use the sites for casual wagers on sports they follow, while others spend all day monitoring news and placing bets.

We lost a deal to a company with worse AI than ours. Yeah...sucks. But they deserved to win. We did show up with the best model and an impressive demo State-of-the-art stuff. They showed up with: 1. Seamless integration into the existing EMR Software 2. A clear $X saved per month proof 3. Zero disruption to current workflow All 3 points are super critical to get the sale. Our AI was better. Theirs was boring And boring won. Learning....Healthcare doesn’t reward the flashiest tech. It rewards tech that is reliable, proven, and had min friction to adopt. Master the boring parts so well that removing your product becomes unthinkable.

In terms of LLM use cases, one of the highest value add uses is software coding, and in this application, the proprietary models dominate: "proprietary models still handle the bulk of coding assistance overall (the gray region), reflecting strong offerings like Anthropic’s Claude." This is especially important because coding is now the dominant, token-weighted use case — in early 2025, coding represented 11% of token volume, but toward the end of 2025, this share exceeded 50%. Legislators are begging you to de-identify your organization's health data. HIPAA has made healthcare a "slow data" industry. The reviews and processes required to limit the use of patient data create friction. Data provisioning to researchers and partners can take months and cost up to $50K per project. The legislators that drafted HIPAA saw this coming. That's why they included the de-identification exemption. It's also why almost all other data protection laws have anonymization and de-identification exemptions. But de-identification is treated as the last resort for protecting health data. Meetings and reviews and DUAs are still the default path. So even as fast data industries have captured the public health narrative and AI has democratized access to expertise, health data is still moving slowly. To compete in the era of AI and fast data, de-identification is the best lever available for healthcare and research organizations.
