Sid Dhodi shared thisEighth generation of Google’s custom TPUs - 8t & 8i !Sid Dhodi shared thisWe are entering the age of agents, where models don’t just respond—they reason, execute workflows, and learn. To meet these new demands, I’m excited to announce the eighth generation of Google’s custom TPUs at Google Cloud Next, featuring two specialized architectures: TPU 8t: The Training Powerhouse, optimized to shrink frontier model development from months to weeks. - Scales to 9,600 chips and 2 PB of shared memory per superpod. - Delivers 121 ExaFlops of compute with 2.7x better price-performance than our previous generation, Ironwood. - Engineered for 97% "goodput" via automated fault detection and rerouting. TPU 8i: The Reasoning Engine, built for ultra-low latency to power real-time agentic experiences. - Breaks the "memory wall" with 3x more on-chip SRAM (384 MB) to keep active models entirely on-chip. - Features the new Boardfly topology, doubling interconnect bandwidth to 19.2 TB/s. - Provides 80% better performance-per-dollar for serving compared to Ironwood. For the first time, both chips run on our custom Axion Arm-based CPU hosts, allowing us to optimize the entire system for maximum power efficiency. We remain open-by-design, supporting PyTorch, JAX, and vLLM, while offering bare metal access for the first time. I’m eager to see how these systems empower our customers to build capabilities at the cutting edge of what's possible. Sid Dhodi shared thisgreat initiative which would catapult the Indian Data center industry !Sid Dhodi shared thisIndia is at a pivotal moment in its digital journey, and the Union Budget 2026-27 has just accelerated it. The government’s Union Budget provides industry-wide policy clarity spurring the development of digital infrastructure in India. Ahead of the upcoming AI Impact Summit in Delhi, it is a clear signal to investors around the world that India is positioning itself to be a global engine for the AI era. This long-term policy is a catalyst for the kind of foundational investments required to power a digital nation. Last year, we underscored Google's commitment to this mission with a $15 billion investment in our Visakhapatnam AI Hub—a gigawatt-scale project designed to advance every sector of Indian society. This expansion supports a broader, collective mission – to build a robust, competitive landscape of diverse infrastructure providers, which will drive innovation and ensure that high-performance compute is accessible across the country. Ultimately, this surge in cloud and AI adoption will also create substantial economic and societal opportunities for both India and the United States—pioneering a generational shift in AI capability. https://lnkd.in/en8RM4NsIndia gives 20-year tax holiday to foreign firms using local data centresIndia gives 20-year tax holiday to foreign firms using local data centres

Sid Dhodi reposted thisSid Dhodi reposted thisThe first-ever corporate offtake agreement for a new gas-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS) is here. Leading global institutions including the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) agree that CCS will be a critical tool for global decarbonization. It holds the promise to significantly reduce emissions from gas power plants; provide clean, reliable power to grids; and decarbonize heavy industries like steel and cement. In a significant step, Google will offtake the majority of a 400 MW power plant that will permanently store approximately 90% of its CO2 emissions. The project (“Broadwing”) is the first in a longer-term collaboration with Low Carbon Infra (LCI) to develop future CCS facilities in the U.S.. Broadwing meets rigorous environmental and safety standards, and its developers have engaged a broad range of local stakeholders in the development of the project Its construction will create an estimated 750 full-time jobs over a nearly four-year build period, and sustain dozens of permanent jobs once operational. Sid Dhodi reacted on thisSid Dhodi reacted on thisMy career began "on the tools" and has progressed in ways I never expected when I started out. Like many others in the industry, when I first became involved in data centers nearly thirty years ago, I did not even realize I was making a career move. It was simply another job. What I did not appreciate at the time was that I was taking the first step on a journey that would allow me to live and work across the globe and eventually lead large, international infrastructure teams. What the data center industry offered me, often quietly and without fanfare, was opportunity. Opportunity to learn continuously, to move from hands‑on technical roles into operations, development, and leadership, and to gain global exposure while remaining grounded in critical infrastructure. Data centers reward curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to keep learning. They need people who understand how things actually work and who can grow into roles that shape strategy, platforms, and long‑term outcomes. There are few industries where an early technical foundation can translate so naturally into global leadership opportunities. As AI, cloud computing, and digital services continue to expand, data centers remain foundational to how the world operates, yet they are still under‑represented in career conversations. I plan to use this space to share reflections on the industry, the career paths it enables, and why I believe data centers offer one of the most compelling, purpose‑driven careers in the digital economy. If you are early in your career, considering a change, or simply curious about the industry, I hope some of these experiences are useful. #NewCollarCareers #DataCenters #DigitalInfrastructure #EngineeringCareers #CareerDevelopment

Sid Dhodi liked thisSid Dhodi liked thisThe next decade is not about linear expansion of current data centers, but a total reinvention of how compute, energy, and cooling interact to minimize the environmental impact of the AI era. Thank you #TransitionAI 2026 and Shayle Kann for a great conversation on how we are expanding capacity through a full-stack approach—from silicon to specialized agents. A few key points from our conversation: Vertical Integration - We eliminate the “integration tax” by designing hardware and software in tandem–starting with TPU chip design to the building's cooling system and the local power generation through a unified software layer. Shifting Reliability Standards (Training vs. Inference) - We’re rethinking the traditional five nines (99.999%) reliability model. In today’s data centers, power, not just chip supply, is a binding constraint. To support workloads willing to trade reduced reliability for more capacity, we support integrated power management that dynamically adjusts the power draw based on real-time demand and reliability requirements. Our eighth generation TPUs are a great example for how we bring this to life. Move Toward Modular and Repeatable Data Center Designs - To meet the speed of AI demand, we’re shifting away from bespoke, custom-built data centers. Google is moving toward modular designs that can be replicated globally at unprecedented speed. This standardization reduces the engineering overhead and time required to bring new, efficient capacity online. Advanced Energy Management and Grid Support - We are building our infrastructure as a significant grid asset. Google’s milestone agreement with utilities for one gigawatt of demand response allows us to dial back power consumption during times of grid stress, making the data centers a stabilizing force for the local energy ecosystem. #Google #AIInfrastructure #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/gH2DCYEY

Sid Dhodi liked thisSid Dhodi liked thisAlphabet Inc. is one of TIME’s most influential companies of the year, with Google CEO Sundar Pichai at the helm. Pichai’s low-key style has led critics to underestimate him. While analysts called for his resignation, Pichai remained calm; he had been lying in wait for this moment for a decade. In 2016, he had declared Google would be an “AI-first company,” and began cultivating a series of projects—custom chips, Cloud, YouTube, and deep AI research—that seemed to have nothing to do with Google’s core search product. All of these bets have paid off, and then some. Google DeepMind forged several key breakthroughs that catapulted Google’s Gemini model to the top of many capability leaderboards. Gemini now accounts for a quarter of AI traffic worldwide, up from 6% a year ago, according to Similarweb. Google has quietly introduced millions of people to AI through everyday products. All these successes mean the main criticism Pichai faces is no longer about his leadership, but rather whether Google has once again become too powerful for society’s good. At Google, we believe firmly that AI has expanded the "art of the possible" – from economic upside for small and large businesses, to strengthening national security, and improving outcomes in health and education. Ensuring these benefits are widely shared across the UK and the US is a joint responsibility of the public and private sectors, requiring collective investment in AI infrastructure, expanded energy capacity, and importantly, education. Google has meaningfully invested in digital skilling and education across both nations for more than a decade, starting initially with IT support and expanding over the years to cyber, data analytics, and most recently, AI fluency. It was inspiring to see education and job skilling play a central role in the discussions with His Majesty, given it is core to Google’s mission – and deeply personal to me, as it relates to my own history with the UK. As I have previously shared, my father always said that “education is a passport to freedom.” For my family that formal education came after my Dad’s service in the British Army and we are forever grateful the United Kingdom opened its arms to him, where he earned his Masters & PhD and I was born. As a child of both sides of the Atlantic, it was moving to celebrate all that the US-UK special relationship has made possible – including my own family’s story – and to look ahead to all that it will make possible, with continued investment, for generations to come. This is a big step forward in India’s digital journey. This $15 billion investment will bring a full AI stack to Vizag and strengthen the backbone of our growing digital economy. It will boost innovation, help startups build and scale, and create long-term impact for the community. In February this year, we also laid the foundation for Quantum Valley in Amaravati. Together, these initiatives are powering the creation of a strong technology ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh. What stands out is our execution speed. The Google project was announced in October 2025 and we broke ground in April 2026, from vision to foundation in just six months. That is Andhra Pradesh’s speed of doing business. We are proud to anchor India’s next wave of the tech revolution on our shores. With this, I am also keeping the promise I had made to Vizag, that I will rebuild it and put it on the global map. And today, we have achieved that milestone for our people. How are you using AI in your work or personal life? This article, co-authored by Vardaan Ahluwalia and me lays out India's significant new Research Development and Innovation Fund initiative in the context of other successful interventions: when governments and the private sector work together, they can make a transformative difference to deep technology entrepreneurship. Equally, initiatives to help manage financial risk should be followed by structural reforms in areas ranging from intellectual property regulation, ease of clearances for start-ups, tax rationalization in capital gains and options that helps start-ups attract talent, and a visa regime that attracts leading global researchers. https://lnkd.in/gk92YSZa

From our PearX S25 cohort, meet Pravāh, the AI-native operating system for the electric grid When Mohak Mangal, Dhruv Suri, and Aman Gupta looked at the strain on the U.S. electric grid, they saw a system pushed to its limits. Exploding demand and unpredictable supply have made blackouts increasingly common. This costs the economy more than $150B a year, a number that could 10x in the next five years. Mohak Mangal and team founded Pravāh to help fix it. Their platform helps utilities and grid operators make real-time decisions on load, generation, and congestion, reducing blackout risks, optimizing power procurement, and bringing much-needed stability to the backbone of modern life. We’re proud to support the Pravāh team as they take on one of the toughest and most important infrastructure challenges of our time.

Praveen Neppalli Naga, Uber's CTO, was kind enough to join us a few weeks back (continued from what my Partner, Ganesh Srinivasan previously shared) to walk us through his philosophy on building operationally complex AI systems. And as always, it all leads back to fundamentals. Even the best AI model can’t outrun a messy data stack. As Praveen put it, scalability isn’t a function of model sophistication; it’s a function of data quality, flow, and freshness. Any cracks in that foundation will eventually become the true bottleneck to innovation. This was just one snippet among many learnings, and it was such a pleasure speaking with Praveen. Thank you again to him and the Uber team for the warm welcome at their offices. I'll be keeping this lesson top of mind as Ganesh and I head to #NeurIPS2025 this week. We're excited to see what innovation is around the corner. Please reach out if you’d like to chat. We’d love to meet up on the convention floor.

Backing a manufacturing startup at seed isn't the obvious VC move. But Vivek, Rahul and Aditya, the co-founders of Bidso had lived the problem across Flipkart, Udaan, and ITC, and had a very clear idea of how to fix it. Two and a half years later, the thesis has played out stronger than we imagined. Excited to share that Bidso has raised Rs 63 cr in Series A round and happy to welcome Blume Ventures and Alteria Capital onto the cap table. Thrilled to have Sadev Ventures (Formerly Eternal Capital) continue to back the team at Bidso. Sajith - genuinely looking forward to partnering with you and the Blume team. You think about long-term company building the way we do, and Bidso is exactly the kind of company that benefits from that alignment. Glad to lead our recent investment into SatLabs, a cutting‑edge space tech venture that is redefining how we think about satellite data connectivity. SatLabs is building a path‑breaking data link infrastructure in space – using its own constellation of satellites to provide data link services, instead of depending on traditional ground‑station‑based architectures. This shift from ground to space‑native data relays is a game‑changer: it enables satellite operators to move mission‑critical data at a fraction of current latency, unlocking new possibilities in earth observation, defence, climate monitoring, logistics, and real‑time analytics. What truly excites us is the strength and credibility of the founding team. Both Saisree and Sooraj are at the forefront of the IITMSAT initiative – one of the early and iconic examples of student‑driven satellite programs in India, since they both graduated from IITM. Their deep technical grounding, hands‑on mission experience, and clarity of vision around the future of space infrastructure give us strong conviction in SatLabs’ ability to build and scale a globally competitive platform. Many congratulations to Saisree and Sooraj on this important milestone. Wishing you the very best as you push the frontiers of product R&D and drive towards successful commercialization of SatLabs’ technology. Thrilled to share the India Deeptech Report 2025, which I had the opportunity to co-author with my colleagues at Kae Capital (Abhishek, Nisha) and TDK Ventures (Ravi, Vasan, Aakriti). Deeptech is often seen as slow-moving and capital intensive, but what we found is an ecosystem maturing faster than ever before, powered by supportive policy, patient capital, and world-class talent. With insights from a 100+ founders, and industry/academic experts, this report should act as a great preview for what is next in India’s growth story. Full report: https://lnkd.in/g2XPETnU
