Today, I am sitting in Dalton, Georgia beside my brother’s ICU room.
For seven days now, I have watched doctors and nurses fight to help save his life. They have cared for him endlessly, watched him closely, and by the grace and mercy of God… today there is hope he may begin breathing more on his own again.
My brother is only 57 years old.
A veteran. A man who served this country.
Yet somewhere along the way, like so many others, he became another person heavily medicated, prescribed medication after medication until his body began breaking down.
When we reviewed everything, he was on more than 30 medications. His kidneys are failing. Pneumonia nearly took his life.
And before anyone misunderstands me, this is not against all doctors or healthcare workers. There are incredible physicians and nurses who save lives every day. I am witnessing that firsthand right now.
But sometimes people fall through the cracks.
Sometimes prescriptions become easier than listening.
Sometimes the human soul behind the patient is forgotten.
This is not only happening to veterans.
It is happening to people everywhere.
As I sit here today, I cannot help but think about all those lying in hospital beds across this country.
Those waiting on transplants.
Those fighting cancer.
Those struggling to breathe.
Those praying for one more day with the people they love.
So today, I am asking for prayer.
Not only for my brother… but for all of them.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
Please also consider becoming an organ donor if you are not already.
One life can save many others.
We cannot take these earthly bodies with us, but through compassion and selflessness, we can leave healing behind for someone else.
Today reminded me how fragile life truly is.
The small frustrations we carry every day suddenly become very small when you are sitting beside someone fighting for their next breath.
So hug your loved ones tighter.
Pray a little harder.
Thank God for your health.
Thank Him for another morning.
Thank Him for the people still beside you.
And continue praying for those still lying in hospital beds tonight, those waiting for organ transplants, our military and veterans who have served this country, and all those around the world who are sick, suffering, hurting, or simply praying for another chance at life.
God bless you all.
