Emily Olinger shared thisReflecting upon 2021 with the @Spreetail Year in Review article, I am overwhelmed with pride. Last year, our People and Culture Team was truly able to accomplish the unthinkable in regards to employee growth. With completing over 750 new employee onboarding hours, facilitating 230 internal employee moves, and graduating over 250 Spreetailers from one of our various leadership development programs, our team was hard at work, to say the least! On top of all of those developmental accomplishments, we were honored to win a nationally renowned award for our candidate experience! I am so proud to think about the strides our team has made towards making Spreetail a workplace that drives success and inclusiveness for every Spreetailer. This past year was the first full year with our Inclusion Networks and they have already made a huge impact in our communities. I look forward to seeing the monumental change we will make within Spreetail and our greater communities in 2022! #wearespreetail #humanresources #culture #inclusion

Emily Olinger posted thisIf I had to summarize 2021 in one word, it would be ‘grateful’. From both a personal and professional view, 2021 has left me feeling grateful for new connections, opportunities, and growth. I’m also willing to admit, it was tiring. Our team has fought through many adversities and an ever-changing ecommerce landscape to ensure our customers are well served. Ecommerce doesn't turn off. Often, this means jumping into emails or meetings at odd hours of the day, over the weekend, and even holidays. Thanksgiving and Black Friday are two of the biggest holiday shopping days of the year and given the nature of our ecommerce world, it is sometimes difficult for us to take a break and turn it off. This week, we’re encouraging our teams to cancel meetings Thursday, December 23rd - Monday, December 27th. We are encouraging our team members to get some much needed rest and recovery as we end the year. We’re asking our team to take these days to celebrate their families, reflect on this year, and take a much needed mental break. I’m looking forward to the many opportunities ahead for Spreetail in 2022, and I know I’ll be ready to embrace those after a few meeting-free days to reset and recharge. #wearespreetail

Emily Olinger shared thisLove this highlight of Spreetail Executive Vision program and Heidi Hough's feedback: "It reminded me of the importance that we're. going to need to manage up in a really collaborative, cohesive way." Growth is not just about gaining new skills but how to reshape skills as we grow within the organization and help the organization scale up. #wearespreetailEmily Olinger shared thisOur Talent Development team knows in order to achieve our growth goals, our leaders need to be equipped to create the vision, live the values, and successfully execute Spreetail's strategies. The Executive Vision program was created for Directors and VPs to focus not only on individual growth, but on group dynamics, collaboration, and cross-functional effectiveness. Emily Olinger shared thisWe talk a lot on our Spreetail channels about the many jobs, the many new career beginnings at Spreetail. But we also get to help families start New Beginnings by helping them establish a home, by giving them the essentials they need within a home so they can focus on stability for their families. 2,500 beds donated is an amazing milestone, but certainly not the last one! #wearespreetail #socialimpactEmily Olinger shared this“Not many companies get the opportunity to partner across a community like we do and provide for families in need or down on their luck,” Chad Kilpatrick, Director of Talent Community at Spreetail via Lincoln Journal Star. “There’s a certain pride in working for a company that’s doing something special like this.” Five years and 2,500 beds later, it’s truly just the beginning of New Beginnings. Emily Olinger reacted on thisEmily Olinger reacted on thisSo grateful to Nelnet for hosting the first ever Maker’s Market on site today! I had the incredible opportunity to set up a booth for my small organic skin care business, Bailey Butter! It means something to work for a company that not only supports what I do 9–5, but also makes space to celebrate the passions we carry outside of work. That kind of culture means so much and is very hard to find these days. To all of my peers who stopped by my booth — thank you. Whether you picked up a product, asked questions, or just took a moment to show some love, you made it a great event. Seeing people connect with something I’ve built from the ground up is a feeling I’ll hold onto for a long time. Small businesses run on big community energy, and today reminded me of that in the best way. 💚 #BaileyButter #SmallBusiness #CleanSkincare #NaturalSkincare #MakersMarket #Grateful #Entrepreneur

Emily Olinger reacted on thisEmily Olinger reacted on thisFrom November to May, I had the chance to be part of Nelnet's first AI cohort internship program as an AI Enablement intern, and it feels so bittersweet saying goodbye!! I spent the past several months learning prompt engineering, co-hosting AI training workshops tailored to different teams’ needs, and finding ways to make AI feel engaging, relevant, and accessible to the people in the room. My biggest takeaway was watching people discover they’re more capable with AI than they ever expected! What’s really needed is the time, space, and support to experiment with it in a way that actually feels fun and applicable. Prompt-A-Thon workshops were designed to create this space, and they were such a highlight of my internship. I got to connect with leaders across Nelnet to pitch the idea, get buy-in, and kick things off — and then watch teams build real automations and agents to save time on internal processes. And one of my favorite moments was designing and presenting a companywide workshop during the Growth and Development Expo — helping people use their CliftonStrengths results alongside Copilot to build their own Individual Development Plans. Getting to weave CliftonStrengths into an AI internship AND use it as a tool for real personal growth was one of the best surprises of this experience. 😊 To the people who made this what it was — Alana Fragar Moore, your kindness and mentorship throughout these months meant more than I can put into words. Thank you to Jessica Schumacher for your inspiring leadership and for investing in this program and in us. A huge shoutout to the Associate Experience team for adopting Makenna and I — learning and laughing with you was always a good time. Makenna Jolley, working with you was the best part of all of this— I wish you all the best on your new startup business! And Amal Thomas, you were so generous with your time and knowledge, and so much of what I’m walking away with is because of you. This team holds such a special place in my heart. Thank you Nelnet! 💚

Between time with my immediate team and the opportunity to connect with our larger People Services group, the week was full of learning, thoughtful conversations, and shared experiences. And if you know this group, there was also plenty of fun and laughter mixed in, which made it all the more meaningful. Grateful to be part of a People Services team that invests in each other, values connection, and brings energy and heart to the work we do every day. Proud to be part of this group. #PeopleServices #Grateful #LifeAtNelnet #LearningAndGrowing #MomentsThatMatter

Emily Olinger reacted on thisEmily Olinger reacted on thisWow, I can’t believe my two years at Nelnet have finally come to an end. 🥹 This past Friday was my last day, and it is so bittersweet to move on from a place that has played such a big role of my professional life. I am incredibly grateful to everyone I had the chance to work with. To the different managers, mentors, and team members who guided me along the way: thank you for your mentorship and for making this such a positive experience. I have learned so much across my time in both marketing and HR, and I’m walking away with skills and memories I’ll carry with me forever. While I am sad to leave, I know these connections will last. I am so excited for my next chapter, but I’ll always look back on my time here with so much gratitude. 💚

Emily Olinger liked thisSupporting the autism community takes more than awareness—it takes action. This weekend at the Capitol City Autism Run, I was proud to see my kids wearing the gear I helped design. Contributing the lettering for this year's shirts was my way of putting some skin in the game for a community that means everything to my family. To the parents and advocates who stay in the game unconditionally, day in and day out: your resilience is the real "nuclear" drive. AI is accelerating operational velocity inside organizations. But speed without certainty creates chaos. I’m heading to Chicago this week for Rippling on the Road 2026 where I’ll be facilitating a workshop called: “How HR Wins in the Age of AI: Automate the Mundane. Humanize the Complex.” The short version of the thesis: AI is incredibly good at accelerating operational velocity. However, the more we automate, the more important certainty becomes, for every employee in the system, both human and AI. 👀 Right now I’m seeing shifts happen quickly: • Administrative work is being automated • Decision-support is becoming increasingly data-driven • The hardest problems left are deeply human ones Which means the role of HR isn’t shrinking. It’s becoming more strategic. HR/People Ops is an engine, helping organizations operate with clarity and confidence, whether supporting human teammates or increasingly agentic ones. If you’re attending Rippling on the Road in Chicago, come join the session. I’m looking forward to comparing notes with others leveraging AI inside their organizations. Rippling shared a few complimentary passes with speakers. If you'd like to attend, you can register using code WAVEMAKER26. If I don't see you in Chicago, hopefully San Fransisco...

The year-end crunch. Are you feeling it yet? Welcome to HR in Q4 — also known as: • Budget Season Bingo • The Holiday PTO Shuffle • Strategic Planning Whiplash • The Open Enrollment Hunger Games • “Did we ever finalize the org chart?” Limbo • Performance Review Panic ("wait, you're telling me we do these 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 year?") December doesn’t care how seasoned or strategic you are. If you’re in HR, you’re one "can you resend that invite to me?" email away from becoming the person in this photo. Which is exactly why fractional HR support exists. Not as a replacement. Or a rescue mission. As clarity. As pressure relief. As capacity you don’t currently have. And regardless of your org-size or HR team size, there's value in strongly considering some year-end / year-start supplemental support: 1️⃣ For the experienced HR team that’s drowning in priorities You know what to do. You just need more hands, more hours, or more altitude so you can think instead of react. Fractional support might look like: • clearing backlogs • accelerating key projects • giving your team breathing room so the strategic work finally gets done • (without burning out the people you’re trying to retain) 2️⃣ For the small HR team trying to do “more with less” You’re running payroll, wrangling employee relations, managing benefits, updating policies, and daring the printer to jam again so you can vent your frustrations by bashing it with a sturdy 3-ring binder. What you don’t have is time to build scalable systems. Fractional support might mean: • providing structure • introducing best practices • implementing repeatable frameworks • and adding actual capacity (so you don't need to reinvent everything from scratch) 3️⃣ For the small business with no HR team If the CEO is the Head of Sales, COO, and the accidental HR Manager…you’re one sick day away from all-out chaos. Fractional support gives you: • hiring support • compliant foundations • culture and performance systems • someone to call before a small issue becomes a legal one • (so you can run the business you want, not the HR department you never meant to inherit) Bottom line: If your December looks anything like this photo, you might feel alone, but you don't have to remain that way. If you want extra hands, extra clarity, or someone who can step in without slowing you down, I can help. Send me a message. Let’s make your year-end look a lot less…flammable.

Compensation isn't one-size-fits-all, and the 2026 Salary Guide from LHH proves it. Whether you're hiring in Denver, Kansas City, or Seattle, local market data matters. The guide includes regional pay multipliers and hundreds of national benchmarks to help employes tailor their approach to the talent landscape in their area. With AI reshaping roles and employee expectations evolving, leaders need more than national averages, they need insights that reflect their market. Let me know if you're interested in the salary guide and local market insights where your people are.

Wendy Hernández, LionsPride Assistant Founder and CEO, was recently quoted in a Skift Meetings article about SHRM’s decision to platform a speaker who publicly boasts about pressuring brands to roll back protections for marginalized employees. Let’s be clear. When diversity, equity, and inclusion are treated as topics for debate, it sends one unmistakable message that the safety and belonging of professionals of color are negotiable. That is not leadership. That is harm. #HRLeadership #DEI #WorkplaceSafety #ExecutiveSupport #lionspride #assistant

A high-profile HR conference is putting the idea of “viewpoint diversity” to the test — and sparking outrage in the HR community. SHRM’s Blueprint 2025 conference in Louisville will feature Robby Starbuck, a vocal anti-DEI critic, in a session with CNN commentator Van Jones. SHRM says this is about fostering dialogue across perspectives. Members say it’s about legitimizing harm. Hundreds of HR professionals have voiced concern. Some have canceled memberships or pulled out of the conference. Critics argue that platforming Starbuck — who has no formal DEI experience — sends a dangerous signal: that inclusion and equity are negotiable. The debate raises a critical question for HR leaders and event planners alike: When does “diverse viewpoints” cross the line into controversy that undermines trust and inclusion? https://hubs.li/Q03PLLfw0

Your HR team answers the same questions 100 times a week. "How much PTO do I have?" "When does open enrollment end?" "How do I submit an expense report?" While they're stuck responding to repetitive queries, strategic work, talent development, culture building, retention planning gets pushed aside. HR chatbots aren't replacing your team. They're freeing them to do work that actually matters. The ROI is staggering: 70% of routine queries handled automatically, $180K annual savings on benefits enrollment alone, and 58% of IT/HR tickets deflected before they reach your team. Implementation takes 6-12 weeks. The payback? Usually under 6 months. This isn't future technology, it's table stakes for efficient HR operations in 2025. Ready to give your HR team their time back?
