According to the Insurance Journal, underwriting losses in 2022 were approximately $26.5 billion dollars. Three hours of virtual felt fragmented and missed the human connection that makes Zoom special. But here's the thing... The strategic substance was genuinely impressive. What caught my attention: ➡️ AI Companion 3.0 finally moves beyond meeting summaries to actual agentic AI that takes action. The "Free Up My Time" feature that analyzes your calendar and suggests proxy attendees? That's practical automation that actually moves the needle. ➡️ The vertical play is smart. For example, healthcare workers getting hands-free updates through Bluetooth headsets while maintaining patient care shows technology serving people, not the other way around. ➡️ Small business wins big. While Microsoft proliferates different Copilot offerings (and price points), Zoom keeps it simple and integrated. For SMBs without dedicated IT teams, this consistency matters enormously. The bottom line? No revolutionary moonshots, but steady strategic progress that builds lasting competitive advantages. For the last 18 months since ChatGPT exploded on the scene, AI spending has been treated as a necessary R&D expense. Leaders are acknowledging that the unchecked adoption of countless tools (many of which go unused or create redundant workflows) is something they have to get a handle on ASAP. You’ve got all the wasted licenses, the immense cost of context-switching for employees, the security risks of unvetted tools, and the productivity drain of using the wrong AI for the job. It’s a lot to things to tidy up but it’s not all doom and gloom. The solution is to spend smarter and shift from a decentralized, "let a thousand flowers bloom" approach to a centralized governance model. This way you can identify and eliminate redundant tools, guide employees to the most effective applications, and ensure you maximize the potential of your AI investment.
