Why are we grappling with the moral implications of artificial intelligence when other groundbreaking technologies like social media and blockchain were introduced without similar scrutiny? Don't dismiss my question as whataboutism. What changed with AI? Is it that people have finally realized the game-changing potential of AI and the need for ethical considerations to guide its development and deployment? Or is it simply FOMO, wherein opinion leaders are seeking to position themselves as gatekeepers of AI's potential, motivated by concerns about their own influence and relevance in an increasingly AI-driven world? How can we compartmentalize ethics to AI only when our economy is driven by profit and cutthroat competition, contract law, which leaves no space for ethics? What allure do ethics have in a world where the pursuit of self-interest often takes precedence over moral principles? Technology exists to serve business needs. Can you talk about ethics in technology without talking about ethics in business itself? How do you start this 'ethics in AI' conversation with a business that charges 30% APR, or with one that is engaged in evergreening? Who wants to talk about 'ethics in AI' with Retrophin? Most importantly, how does ethics in AI make a business more competitive? If we don't know the answer to this question, the conversation isn't going anywhere. Yes, we need to talk about ethics, but the discussion needs to be broader and deeper.

Pradeep K Badhai Sharma liked thisPradeep K Badhai Sharma liked thisUpdate on me: After 6 months off, I'm starting to look for work again. So far I have one 6-interview loop already completed for a VR-related company that would be ideal for me, so maybe I'll get an offer or a rejection this week or next. A bunch of companies close to home ghosted me after I sent off applications, which was dissappointing, but not entirely unexpected. I have a few more introduction interviews and probably a few resumes to send this week. An online friend who happens to be both a computer professional and a farmer did some brainstorming with me, and we are starting work on an interesting one-off web service which they think has the potential to make millions of dollars in passive income. So I'm rolling the dice on that as well. At home, my older son is starting to send applications out to colleges. If you do this early enough, a bunch waive their fees. We are teaching our younger son to drive. We have 2 more vacations between now and January: a West coast drive from San Francisco to Vancouver to see colleges, and a week of snorkeling in Belize. My main time sink the last 3 months has been learning and practicing acoustic guitar.

I am just now starting to look for work and scheduling interviews for principal or staff software engineering positions (local to Boulder / Denver or Remote, IC lead or EM - I really like interviewing and hiring), looking to go back to the grind no earlier than mid October. For the last 4.5 months, I have been relaxing and filling my time by: * Vacationing on a cruise ship with family in Greece and Turkey * Replacing all the windows in my home with super high efficiency ones * Researching solar for my roof (today's panels are not quite efficient enough to cover my family's consumption with our oddly shaped roof) * Switching to a gym that offers Yoga * Attending a local high performance computing conference * Signing up to go to TwitchCon San Diego (it will be amazing to meet many musicians in person) * Buying a guitar and taking lessons each week * Teaching my younger son to drive * Consuming entertainment: - Tinkering with various personal coding projects (Roblox Luau, JUCE Framework C++) - yes, I code for fun - Playing new video games, installing DOSBox and playing childhood favorites (Civilization, Railroad Tycoon, Ultima VI) - Reading books (Dune series) - Netflix (Extraordinary Attorney Woo is amazing, binge watched favorites) - Streaming Planet Crafters on Twitch - Joining a bunch of Discord servers for game development and guitar It has been wonderful.

The one in the middle is BHUVAN KC one of most celebrated, admired and revered actors in my country Nepal 🇳🇵. He has acted in over 50 successful Nepali films many of which are legendary, runs a production company, also is a director and now chairman of film development board in Nepal. He was in Uk for a film promotion , looks like could not resist great brands and value on offer in Tkmaxx Hayes store 😄. I requested him to cast me in his next film as a joke, he laughed and answered the way he would say his dialogues in films “ Your are the hero in your own film , just play the role you have chosen perfectly it is much rewarding than acting in cinema “. Pradeep K Badhai Sharma liked thisPradeep K Badhai Sharma liked thisAs you may recall from my last post (250K impressions - wow), I accepted the RTO offer to leave on April 15th, and decided to take 6 months off. Week one past employment at Roblox, and I walked around my beautiful neighborhood without a care in the world (pics from my phone). No 10AM standup meeting... Status: last week I transferred all my tasks to others, packed up my workstation, laptop, and ID badge, and mailed them back in the boxes provided. The newly released game Planet Crafters took up about half of my time last week. It's an amazing game, and my friends got me hooked on it. I am working on some prototypes / ideas for Roblox games, too... If/when any are playable, I'll post links to them.
