Adam Saxton reposted thisAdam Saxton reposted thisI am excited to announce that I will be delivering the keynote at Houston Fabric Day on June 13. In this session, we’ll showcase the end-to-end capabilities of Microsoft Fabric in under an hour, building a comprehensive solution across its core components, including Data Factory, OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Power BI, AI, governance, and Fabric IQ. Rather than focusing on theory or clean architecture diagrams, this new live demo highlights how these pieces come together in a practical, real-world scenario, demonstrating the complete flow from data to insight. I am thrilled to share that Shabnam Watson will be joining us to help bring this vision to life. Throughout the day, we will feature numerous speakers, making this event a full day for the Houston Fabric community to learn, share, and explore what is being built with Fabric. The event will be in person, with food provided, and is designed for those looking to understand Fabric beyond the buzzwords. Additionally, if you have an interesting project involving Fabric, we invite you to share your insights. The call for speakers is open, but submissions close on the 15th. Here are the links for more information: 📅 Attend the event: https://lnkd.in/eTCCSzZs 🎤 Submit a session: https://lnkd.in/eHZpXvC4 Looking forward to a day of learning, building, and connecting the Fabric community in Houston. See you there.

Adam Saxton reposted thisAdam Saxton reposted this❓Why I think you should submit for #dataMindsConnect (Oct 12 - 14, Mechelen, Belgium), sooner rather than later? I'm so glad you asked 🙌 ⭐ First and foremost, I'm hoping you'll help us amplify the message so we can reach folks that we're not reaching yet, so they too have a shot at making their voices heard to a wider audience. 0️⃣ dataMinds Connect is a #community #conference driven by volunteers, all #DataEnthusiasts at heart. Getting people together to learn about #Microsoft #Data and #AI, network, and having a whole lot of fun while doing so is at the core of everything we do. 1️⃣ We carve out - at least - 10 slots out of the total 72 for new speakers, and pair them up with likeminded people for some coaching and sound boarding. In the full schedule, you'll find ~30% who are still early (< 3 engagements) in their speaker journey. Putting prejudice aside, you'll find that every single one of them is poised to make the most of it, and deliver a stellar presentation. 2️⃣ It's not just about the shiny topics like #MicrosoftFabric, #PowerBI, #AzureDatabricks, or #GenAI. We pride ourselves in balancing out the topics so people can learn about the tools they're using today, and be informed about the tools they might be using tomorrow. If it's related to #Microsoft Data and AI, we want it! 3️⃣ We're sticklers for planning #NonTechnical sessions, aimed at making us better humans. This can be improving ourselves, gain understanding of topics that might seem distant, helping with presentation skills, networking, leadership, .. The interest for these topics keeps growing year of year, which puts us over the moon with joy. 4️⃣ With 850+ attendees throughout the 3 days, you'll have the chance to meet A LOT of new people who are there for the same reason as you, to broaden their knowledge about the data spectrum. Smiling, happy people throughout the venue is a typical thing you'll see every year. Whether it's students, new graduates, seasoned consultants, or people pivoting into a new data role, you'll see all of them come together. 5️⃣ Our audience and speaker line-up is becoming more and more global throughout the years. We're a Belgian event at heart, yet we are thrilled by the submissions we see come in from people around the globe!🌍 6️⃣ We're keen on running the kind of event we'd love to attend ourselves. Be clear on expectations, communicate early, and make sure we provide a welcoming environment. 7️⃣ I'm looking at YOU 🫵 Why do you think people should submit to dataMinds Connect? What's holding you back from submitting a session yourself? ℹ️ The #CallForSpeakers for #dataMindsConnect closes on Thursday May 21st at 23:59 CEST (UTC+2), hurry up to make sure you get in on time! ℹ️ If you're hoping to submit a full day workshop (precon) or deep-dive session, make sure to do it before Thursday May 14th at 23:59 CEST (UTC+2). ℹ️ All the info you need to submit, can be found in the comments below! 👇

A dashboard is only valuable if it leads someone to take action. But most dashboards don’t. They summarize. They visualize. But they don’t direct. That’s where things break down. When everything is a metric, nothing is a priority. The best QAD environments surface exceptions, not aggregates. They show what changed—and who needs to do something about it. 📊 Broom Street Software helps clients build dashboards that don’t just report. They respond. If that’s what you’re missing, Sales Desk™ gives you real-time sales comparisons, alerts, and actionable context—directly from QAD #QAD #ERP #Dashboards #OpsLeadership #SalesEnablement https://bit.ly/3zovOt3

One thing I keep seeing in enterprise AI rollouts: the highest-risk data usually isn’t in tables it’s in the messy stuff. Tickets, call transcripts, notes, emails… the place where PII shows up casually. That’s why I liked seeing Snowflake move in two practical directions recently: A clearer path to structuring unstructured data with Cortex AI Functions, so teams can extract consistent signals without building a one-off pipeline every time. AI_REDACT reaching GA automated PII detection + redaction for unstructured text, built into the platform. From an AI & Security Platform lens, this is the kind of “boring guardrail” that actually enables speed: you reduce privacy risk upfront, and you make cross-team alignment (engineering / data / security) much less painful. If you’re working with unstructured data today, where do you enforce redaction at ingestion, at query-time, or right before model access?

Snowflake credits aren’t just compute. They hide in storage too. Unused dev/test databases, stale tables, and long Time Travel or Fail-Safe settings silently drain budgets every month. Many teams never notice until credit burn rates spike. A recent Snowflake case study showed that 40% of storage in a large enterprise came from inactive data objects. That’s not innovation — that’s waste. At Anavsan, we built an AI-driven way to stop it. Our platform automatically scans your Snowflake environment, identifies idle tables, clones, and retention bloat — and helps you reclaim credits within weeks, not months. -- Pinpoint inactive storage -- Automate cleanup and governance using a secure workspace -- Reuse saved credits for new workloads Read the full blog: https://lnkd.in/eXUFNgkd Because in FinOps, every reclaimed credit fuels what really matters — growth, not waste. #FinOps #Snowflake #CloudOptimization #DataEngineering #Anavsan #CloudCostOptimization

Databricks • 2K followers
Databricks just launched Genie Code and I'm really excited about this one! It's not another code completion tool, it's an autonomous AI agent that can reason through problems, plan multistep approaches, and execute full data and AI workflows end to end. The real superpower here? Unity Catalog. Having an AI coding agent that actually understands your data, the schemas, lineage, governance, business semantics, is what really separates this from other coding agents when it comes to complex data tasks. It's not just writing code in a vacuum, it knows your data. Talking with our Oil & Gas customers, I've seen firsthand how much this can seriously expedite data and ML workflows. Teams in this space are constantly stretched thin and dealing with massive, complex datasets. Having an AI partner that can actually plan and execute, not just suggest snippets, is a huge unlock.

I updated my blog post detailing Delta table compatibility nuances between Fabric and Databricks to account for Delta 4.0 functionality: https://lnkd.in/guTwtSZH TL/DR: There's a very high level of combability, so before blindly enabling the new Compatibility Mode on tables in Unity Catalog, make sure to use my Python library to check if there are any table features which may be blocking interop. Once Fabric Runtime 2.0 EPP ships globally, all other read blocking features will be supported (Variants, Type Widening). The Python library `onelake-shortcut-tools` will generate a DataFrame in seconds that details the compatibility based on the target Runtime in Fabric: https://lnkd.in/gTPdji69 Cheers! #DeltaLake #Interoperability #Lakehouse #MicrosoftFabric #FabricSpark #ApacheSpark #Databricks

We’ve seen some truly awful API documentation. (You probably have too.) Intrinio's docs are clean, searchable, and actually help you build: ▪️ Full endpoint lists ▪️ Sample calls ▪️ Code libraries ▪️ SDKs & tutorials ▪️ Snowflake support 💬 Plus: real humans in chat, not a black hole of tickets. “It’s not whether you can build the system. It’s whether you can build the right one.” Modern tooling makes it easy to stand up production-grade data systems. The harder problem is defining shared concepts across an entire firm and ensuring those definitions hold as the organization grows. In our latest Substack post, we write about how data strategy has shifted from a technical challenge to a business one, and what that means in practice. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ej3caCXp

Documenting for future me. If you are trying to CREATE VECTOR INDEX in the pre-release of SQL Server 2025, documentation was to turn on Trace Flags 466, 474, and 13981. This will cause an error message of 343 on SQL Server 2025 RTM. So, be sure to turn these off. DBCC TRACEOFF(466, 474, 13981, -1)

Snowflake’s SnowConvert AI removes much of the complexity from migrations by automating more than 96% of code and object conversion. 👀 That means less time spent rewriting SQL and more time delivering business value. Successful migrations also require proven strategy, hands-on expertise, and a partner (like, oh you know, Atrium!) who can help you navigate the nuances of modernization. 🤝 With SnowConvert now available for free, there’s never been a better time to move to Snowflake. Is this a deadman walking announcement for Azure Data Factory??? I think so... Directions on Microsoft Down in the SQL Server Integration Service blog post is a discussion about a private preview for SSIS in Fabric. Originally, there were three parts to Azure Data Factory (ADF). 1. Native mode (or whatever it's called now) which was alway being replaced by Fabric Data Factory's Dataflows Gen 2. 2. Apache Airflow that has also moved to Fabric Data Factory. 3. SSIS mode. The SSIS part was the only hold out. And it's a big hold out, because it provided a distributed/hybrid deployment of integrated runtimes that allowed for a real on-prem/cloud configuration. AND... it could write to anywhere, not just OneLake. Let's just say I plan to watch this one closely and expect Microsoft to announce the deprecation of Azure Data Factory soon after this functional reaches GA. https://lnkd.in/eWTVmJDK
