They were one of the more interesting companies I came across walking the floor. WISEcode is building an AI driven platform that looks far beyond the standard nutrition label. Think about that for a second. Consumers are standing in the grocery aisle trying to make a decision in a matter of seconds. Most labels barely scratch the surface of what is actually in the product. Stu Gold liked thisStu Gold liked thisWhen I think about how Edited came to be, it doesn't start with an investment thesis. It starts the same way most things I've built have started, with a problem I couldn't stop thinking about. When we're at conferences, we describe Edited as a special situations lower middle market tech buyout firm, because that's the language the people we raise capital from recognize. But it never quite lands the way we want it to. I think it's because that description captures the solution we built, not the problem we were trying to solve. And those are very different things. I watched it happen to myself first, and then Ingrid and I kept watching it happen to founder after founder in our network. Once you couldn't raise your next round, you either faded away or ran out of road. No good options. No structured path forward. Just a slow unwinding of something that had real value in it. A gap completely foreseeable in a power law VC investment model, but one VCs have no incentive to solve. It turned out the solution to that problem was a private equity firm. Not the other way around. In software, product-market fit is the moment when what you've built maps so precisely onto a real need that customers don't need to be convinced. They find you. They tell you that what you're offering is exactly what they've been looking for and couldn't find anywhere else. People don't usually think about investment firms this way, but I think we should. What tells us we have it isn't our thesis. It's what founders say when we sit across from them. Not occasionally. Repeatedly, across different industries and different cap table configurations, founders who are trapped with a real business and nowhere to go say: this is exactly what I've been looking for. I couldn't find it anywhere. Any founder who has been in that moment knows the feeling. You know in your core that you've found it, even as you struggle to prove it to the people whose capital you need to scale. And that feeling is what all of us who are building something new and different rely on to keep going.

Burn surgeons, respiratory therapists, nurses, physical therapists… every conversation brought a different perspective on what better airway security could mean for their patients. Cristina Imperial Carl from Ediphi Lakshya Daga from TruLeague I was fortunate enough to introduce them to Techstars Boston Accelerator and work with them directly during the program. These two are the epitome of grind. Both are immigrants to the United States. Both are true bootstrappers. Both built their companies the hard way. No shortcuts. No fluff. Just execution. Cristina is on pace to do $𝟲𝗠 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. Lakshya is on pace to do $𝟭𝗠 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. But what stands out isn’t just the numbers. It’s the humility. It’s the consistency. It’s the willingness to keep going when things get hard (and they always do). This is what people don’t talk about enough. Success in startups isn’t just about the idea. 😧It appears the public markets fear of AI has done a 180 - from fear of excessive investment to AI's ability to obliterate long incumbent software companies. I have a feeling we are going to hear the new riff "software is eating software" more times than the famous 2011 op-ed statement from Andreessen that "software is eating the world". Another 180 - long hardware, short (trad) software 🤯. AI infrastructure is literally eating memory. 💥 this one's for the operators.. special edition of the ai market memo just dropped PE or VC, which actually creates more wealth for operators? this one’s special because I’m in these conversations weekly with GTM execs, VC partners, and PE sponsors. and most operators are making a huge financial decision of their career using wrong napkin math. It’s cap table math. and the math decides whether “0.2% equity” becomes $0 or millions. so in this special edition, we broke it down in parts: 1. the real equation wrong napkin math and the actual payout formula that determines outcomes. 2. the two wealth engines broke down the two operator wealth models: - VC = power law (home run derby outcomes) - PE = manufacturing (timelines + transaction probability) Milad Alucozai gave some great advice on participating preferred. 3. cap table terms before we touched the math, we got the vocabulary straight: common vs preferred, pref stack, dilution, vesting, acceleration, Polina Karachentseva explains single-trigger vs. double-trigger acceleration really well using the windsurf deal as an example. 4. the ‘right’ math. why pressure-testing these four variables: dilution, preference stack, timing and eligibility / acceleration are critical. 5. scenarios then we ran real scenarios both VC and PE including the good and the brutal: - the home run - the “decent exit” - common gets smoked - the acqui-hire trap (headline exit, $0 payout) - the PE leaver clause haircut 6. due diligence checklist finally, the questions operators should take note on. and some wise words from Colin Lernell's stuff. link in the comments.
