Along the way, I received a lot of well-intentioned advice: Change your accent. Change your stage presence. Change your network. And, learn about American sports. That's how you succeed in corporate America. But here's what I learned: the magic wasn't in changing myself. It was in making intentional, authentic choices. I chose to build a family that didn't just tolerate my ambitions — they nurtured them. I chose to show up as myself, even when I didn't fit in. And I chose my people wisely — those who saw my potential when I was second-guessing myself. When I look at those honored at this year’s Ascend A-List Awards, I see extraordinary stories of quiet excellence. And yet, research shows it's four times harder for Asians to reach the top — not for lack of talent or drive, but because of systems and perceptions that still need to change. Here's what the data tells us—and why I'm optimistic about what comes next. Right now, just 27% of women hold non-retirement investment accounts, versus 43% of men (FINRA). But when women do invest, the outcomes are impressive. The behaviors that lead to long-term success—patience, thoughtful decision-making, staying the course—are areas where women naturally excel. The question is: how do we make it easier for more women to start investing? It starts with offering education that feels relevant and approachable, and designing experiences that meet people where they are. When we stay focused on what matters most to people, we open up so many more possibilities in their lives. I'm incredibly proud that at Edward Jones, we partner with women to navigate their financial journeys every single day.
