I tell them: - I chose Snowflake because of the amazing product, top talent and great culture. People “own it” (Snowflake value) and “get it done” (Snowflake value). There is little politics and the pace is fast. - I chose Engineering System because dev productivity is P0 here. Our founders and CTO code. They understand firsthand how critical dev productivity is to the entire company. They are deeply involved with ES strategy and execution. ES has org-wide and leadership support to drive transformation through innovation. The last six months have been a thrilling ride on the rocket ship. Hank Duan reacted on thisHank Duan reacted on thisTime for an update. After years in engineering management at Snapchat, I didn’t expect real estate to humble me faster than tech ever did. At Snapchat, I built large-scale automation infrastructure. Then I bought my first investment property. Now I dealt with clogged toilets. What I thought was an investment turned into a front-row seat to vacancy, delayed maintenance, resident issues, and more evictions than I was comfortable with. Phone calls, firefighting, and a never-ending list of nuances, where the “workflow” is often a text, an urgent email and a vendor saying, “I can swing by sometime in the next few days.” To be honest I had no idea what I was getting into. After a lot of starter pain - and eventually running my own property management company - I realized just how much of the business still runs on manual work, patchwork systems, and sheer willpower. I tried different software solutions and spoke with property managers across the industry. The pattern was clear: everyone was working hard, but the tools weren’t working hard enough. That’s when my cofounder, Mehmood Z, who is also a landlord, and I knew it was time to build something new for property managers and finally "save my day". 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿 was born. (daysaver.ai) Daysaver is providing an AI for property management operations: Automating leasing, maintenance, delinquency, and communication. ✦ Our Leasing AI converts inquiries into showings and applications. ✦ Our Maintenance AI reduces manual troubleshooting and coordination work. ✦ Our Delinquency AI follows up on unpaid rent and helps set up payment plans. ✦ Our Voice AI answers calls 24/7, so residents always have support. Really proud of the work Harry Pierson and the team have done in releasing DBOS Java today! DBOS Java brings lightweight durable workflows to Java. Workflows make your program durable by checkpointing its state in Postgres. If your program ever fails, when it restarts all your workflows will automatically resume from the last completed step. Workflows are useful for solving many problems, such as: - Orchestrating business processes so they seamlessly recover from any failure - Operating an AI agent, or anything that connects to an unreliable or non-deterministic API. - Running reliable background jobs with no timeouts. - Processing incoming events (e.g. from Kafka) exactly once What’s unique about DBOS workflows is that they’re implemented entirely in a lightweight Postgres-backed library. All you have to do to use DBOS is install the library into your application and register workflows and steps. As your program runs, the library checkpoints your workflows and steps in Postgres. If your program ever fails, when it restarts it uses those checkpoints to resume all your workflows from the last completed step. There are no other dependencies you have to manage, no separate workflow orchestrator–just your program and Postgres. The big advantage of this approach is that you can incrementally add DBOS to any Java application–it’s just a library. You can add workflows to your application without rearchitecting it or adopting any new infrastructure. It works out of the box with frameworks like Spring. Also, because it’s all Postgres-backed, you get all the tooling you’re familiar with: backups, GUIs, CLI tools–it all just works. You can use Supabase, RDS, Neon, or any other Postgres provider.
