Here's something that surprised us. We ran a build where every time the coding agent said it was done, we had a verification agent actually check the files against the spec. Every. Single. Time. — about 30–40% of the work wasn't there yet. Not broken code. Just features the agent never built, with no idea it had missed them. A payment flow that led to a blank screen. Data hooks still returning mock data. Auth guards missing on three routes you could navigate to without logging in. None of it was visible without checking the files against the plan. If you follow me on Twitter, you might remember a post where I mentioned solving a tricky architectural challenge while working on the official PHP MCP SDK and how PHP Fibers came to the rescue. We needed a way to pause execution mid-request, let the server talk to the client, wait for a response (in some cases), and then resume exactly where we left off, all while keeping the developer API looking standard, synchronous and simple. I promised a deep dive into the solution, and today I’m delivering it. (🔗 Link to the article is in the comments) This is probably the longest and most comprehensive article I have ever written. It’s not a quick tutorial. It’s technical, thorough and designed to reward patient reading. I went all in discussing the exact problem faced, how Fibers solved the issue for MCP’s client communication flow, the full architectural patterns used for cooperative multitasking in the SDK, and a build-from-scratch example of a cooperative task manager. With spec driven devlopment, and the LLM development frameworks, claude code, cursor, open claw, autoresearch, etc. I believe that in a year most programming will be close to declarative, as in I speak my vision and the Agents bring it to reality. The question will then be can you express your vision such that the Agents can execute it properly. In the end we all become managers for better or worse.
