I joined the University of Delaware's prestigious Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program in 1980 and was planning to finish my Ph.D. and proceed to teach in academia. However, my exposure for computers and the field of Artificial Intelligence caused me to leave the program after finishing my Masters in Chemical Engineering.

However, my exposure for computers and the field of Artificial Intelligence caused me to leave the program after finishing my Masters in Chemical Engineering.

I then joined the graduate Computer Science program at the University of Delaware, and was planning to pursue a Ph.D. in Computer Science when I was introduced to an opportunity to take over a failing startup after the untimely passing of its founder. I subsequently left my full-time status as a Computer Science student, and was both working to save that startup and finish my Computer Science education. I finished my coursework toward a Masters in Computer Science by 1984 just before founding Computer Logic, Inc., but was never awarded a formal degree in Computer Science as I did not manage to submit my Master thesis before the time limits expired.

  • Automated method and system for facilitating market transactions

    Issued US 7,512,558

The present invention relates to a method for finding the best match between buyers (or buyers consortiums) and sellers (or sellers consortiums), by a set of software intermediaries, and for using the information developed in those matches to define monetary and performance commitments between parties, and to create fair distribution of the benefits of the agreement among the respective participants. The system solves three related optimization problems concurrently: the optimal aggregation of…

The system solves three related optimization problems concurrently: the optimal aggregation of individual buyers into buyers consortiums; the optimal aggregation of individual sellers into sellers consortiums, and the optimal match of requirements, posed by the buyers consortium, to offers, posed by the sellers consortium.

  • Automated method and system for generating models from data

    Issued US 7,480,640

The present invention relates to a scaleable automatic method of using multiple techniques to generate models and combinations of models from data and prior knowledge. The system provides unprecedented ease of use in that many of the choices of technique and parameters are explored automatically by the system, without burdening the user, and provides scaleable learning over distributed processors to achieve speed and data-handling capacity to satisfy the most demanding requirements.

  • System and method for representing and solving numeric and symbolic problems

    Issued US 5,428,712

A system and method for representing and solving problems allows a user to enter objects and attributes, and to form a table of at least two dimensions having object-attribute pairs. An object hierarchy is then implemented using the entered objects. A score is maintained reflecting how closely the constraints of a particular problem are to being satisfied and the degree of progress in the direction of stated objectives of the problem.

A system and method for representing and solving problems which allows a user to enter objects and attributes, and to form a table of at least two dimensions having object-attributes pairs. An object hierarchy is then implemented using the entered objects. The system allows the user to enter constructs to represent relationships among the object-attribute pairs, and also to enter objectives and constraints for the problem. The system allows the user to solve the problem manually or automatically by the system. A score is maintained reflecting how closely the constraints of a problem are to being satisfied and the degree of progress in the direction of the stated objectives of the problem. The system allows representation of hybrid numerical and symbolic problems, and provides solutions to linear or non-linear, discrete or continuous, and feasible or non-feasible constraint satisfaction and optimization problems.
