Jerry Starkweather shared thisLove it!Jerry Starkweather shared thisTurning on the faucet… I’ve been absent from social media this week, ditching my usual daily posts in favor of my book about the Stuckey’s comeback journey. Writing can be an excruciating slog, but I find inspiration in the prolific author, Louis L’Amour, who advised to “start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” Those words apply to business as well. Nothing is accomplished unless you put yourself out there and just start doing it. That’s what I’ve been doing all week. I’ve taken a literary vacation to Mexico, spending my days writing and reading. Taking time to focus brings such clarity and productivity. I’m grateful to my team for giving me the week off (with only a few urgent calls) to finish my book draft. Today’s my last day here, so I’m enjoying my final morning of strong-enough-to-slap-you-awake Mexican coffee and celebrating taking time off to let the water flow. [Photo Credit: Holly Aguirre]

Jerry Starkweather shared thisHigh end malls in the Dallas Ft. Worth area such as The Galleria & Northpark along with value based concepts such as Grapevine Mills seem to be holding their own against the .Com onslaught. Grapevine Mills even signed a Sports Field House concept to convert space previously leased by JCPenney Outlets. The Sports Field House is driving traffic and aiding in the overall customer experience. What creative re-purposing are you seeing at your local Malls?

My sister Caroline got me thinking about something important today: the different paths we take in life, and how we each define success on our own terms. As I was on Spring Break this week, I asked her to pinch hit and write a post on my blog. Growing up just 16 months apart, people often mistook us for twins (matching outfits and identical haircuts didn't help!). But from early on, we were wired differently. While I obsessed over getting 100% on everything, Caroline was content with 95%. When I was racking up 25 free Book It pizzas, she was happy with her three (in her eyes, we would never convince our immigrant parents to go to Pizza Hut 25 times). I was anxious and driven; she was laid-back and balanced. The nature vs. nurture question fascinates me. Same parents, same house, wildly different outcomes. Caroline helped shape me in ways she doesn't always recognize. When she was too anxious to talk on the phone or order at restaurants, she'd send me, her assistant, to do it. Those early "assignments" helped build confidence from a young age. She also had my back. When I was being bullied in class, Caroline—half the size of my tormentor—confronted him in the hallway. The bullying stopped. That quiet strength has always been her superpower. Our paths diverged after high school. When Caroline visited me at my Georgia Tech scholarship interview, she noticed I seemed uncomfortable with the environment even though forgoing the award meant we would not be able to attend college together. She told me I'd be happier taking the scholarship at Duke. She was right yet again. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈'𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Caroline never chased titles or recognition, yet built a seven-figure business while prioritizing family. Her LinkedIn hasn't been updated in years, and I think the only time she logs in is when she is helping me with mine. The spotlight isn't for everyone. Some of the most impactful people work behind the scenes. Caroline gets things done quietly, consistently, effectively without needing public affirmation. 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜. Caroline's greatest pride is her relationship with her children. She chose presence over position, and I respect and honor that that choice. I'm often asked about my journey as a woman in tech, but today I am sharing a parallel journey that shaped mine. Sometimes the most important leadership lessons come from those who lead differently than you do. 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲?

Jerry Starkweather liked thisJerry Starkweather liked thisWarm Greetings – It is with mixed emotions, but yes, I resigned as General Manager at Vintners Resort. My time in Sonoma County has been very special. I’ve never experienced a more kind and generous community. Thank you for the messages and your understanding as this was a difficult decision to make. I am very excited to have accepted a new position much closer to my two children in the Southeast. (More details to come) I truly feel that the best days for Vintners Resort lie ahead, and I am saddened that I won’t experience them. The motto of Vintners Resort has been to “Celebrate Everything.” I have encouraged the team to reflect on the accomplishments over the last few years and plan to celebrate with them before I leave. Also, I encouraged them to think of the future potential and keep moving forward towards the goal of launching a best in class vineyard resort later this summer. Markus Krebs will be here on Friday, February 28 to begin handover, and will steward Vintners Resort until the permanent General Manager is hired. Pam Ryan, Vice President of Operations is the main contact at Ensemble and will also be available for oversight. In everything, Aim for perfection…Settle for excellence. My best wishes are with you, and I look forward to my return visits to Sonoma County. Please refer any great candidates who are ready to pick up the baton! https://lnkd.in/gvtA6S9S Kind Regards, Brian

That’s right.... complete with a smoke machine, disco ball, zebra carpet and lots of bubbles. 🪩 For those of you that ask me how I manage stress as an entrepreneur.... I would go down here after a crazy day at work and just DANCE by myself. Worked every time. How do you manage stress? #Disco #70sGirl #SingleLife

We’re working with Google to give 911 the eyes they need to better help you when seconds count. Proud to share that Motorola Solutions and Google are collaborating to give Android users the ability to share live video with 911 call handlers within seconds of connecting to the call. The caller can now receive quicker real-time coaching for situations like giving the Heimlich or chest compressions, and your phone’s video can speak for you in situations where it may be unsafe to talk or you simply can’t as you’re in a state of shock. We’re proud to bring this innovation to Android users and the approximately 60% of public safety answering points across North America who use our 911 command center software.
