My friend's grandma bought a condo near the beach for under $200K in the late 80s. The cheapest unit in that same building now? $4M... And honestly, even if you could buy, why would you? Your money does more in the stock market than 30 years of debt, property tax, and a $20K roof you didn't see coming. We rent music, movies, software for our phones, why would a home be any different? What would you do here, own or rent??

Karen S. Goldfarb liked thisKaren S. Goldfarb liked thisOver the last 20 years I have been a part of many acquisitions and high stakes deals. I’ve been both the seller and the buyer, the borrower and the lender. In the middle of an acquisition I was leading back in 2018, I woke up at 4am and wrote this in my journal: "The challenges I face daily are only as big and serious as I make them out to be." We were closing on what was a fairly substantial deal. Legal bills hit $163K…..more than expected. I was losing sleep over how to present it to the sellers. I convinced myself it was going to blow up the deal. It didn't. A single direct email resolved it overnight. The next week, I wrote this: "I let my mind create massive challenges out of scenarios that just don't need to rise to that level. Does stress and constant worrying coupled with fear and doubt actually help a situation? No." I have been on both sides of the table of almost 20 acquisitions, multiple recapitalizations, and numerous capital / debt raises. Almost every single time, there was a moment where I thought the deal could die. Where I let myself think that there was some challenge that had shown up and now it was going to become an ultimate blocker. Here's what I learned after all of these deals…. The deal-killing challenge you're obsessing over at 2am? 80% of the time, it resolves itself with one conversation. The real risk isn't the challenge itself — it's letting the anxiety around the challenge paralyze your decision-making. If you're a founder in the middle of an acquisition, a capital raise, or any high-stakes negotiation right now…… take a breath. Separate the Facts from the Story you're telling yourself about the facts. That distinction changed everything for me. 👏 👏 💥 What's the "2am challenge" you're carrying right now? Goldfarb liked thisIn 2016, I co-captained a team of 8 amateur cyclists, 3 of my co-workers and 4 friends, to an overall victory in Race Across America, RAAM. 3,000 miles. 12 states, San Diego to Annapolis 5 days, 20 hours, and 2 minutes. We were not the fastest riders. We won because we had the best process and system. We were focused and committed. As a result we believed in a shared vision of victory. We had rotation schedules designed to maximize output. An amazing support crew with a shared vision of winning. And a culture that had been built over years, not thrown together for one event. Don’t get me wrong, this was a hard event. We rode non stop for over 5 days, all day and all night. This event definitely pushed us all to the limit. We left it all out there, everybody gave 100%. That lesson has stayed with me ever since. In endurance racing, speed is not just about effort. It is the result of systems, discipline, and execution. It takes a team effort, a shared vision to go out and get the win Business works the same way. The best companies do not scale because they sprint harder. They scale because they build the right systems, the right team, and the right operating rhythm. They have a shared vision of what success is. That mindset shaped how we built DMS from startup to $2.7 billion in cumulative revenue and a public company on the NYSE whose enterprise value eclipsed $1B in 2021. It very much shapes how we think at Walk On Ventures today. You can see it in our core values, Acronym: LEAD ON.
