The secondhand market for fashion in the United States is booming, as 93 percent of consumers have purchased a secondhand item over the past year, according to the 2025 Recommerce Report by OfferUp in partnership with GlobalData, and Gen Z is reportedly at the forefront of this growth. Secondhand shopping has reached mainstream acceptance, with 70 percent of Americans reporting diminished negative perceptions over the past year. The resale market continues expanding, with 19 percent of consumers making their first-ever used purchase last year. Part of a broader growth within the 200 billion recommerce economy, secondhand fashion currently only accounts for 25 percent of the multicategory market.

Some good news from the books sector: Barnes & Noble is looking to purchase long-standing bookseller, Books Inc. The bankrupt California-based retailer is seeking bankruptcy court approval to be scooped up by BI Acquisition Co, an affiliate of Barnes & Noble, for $3.25 million. Should the acquisition go through this fall, Books Inc will preserve its independent identity. It will also keep all of its nine stores open. This includes seven neighborhood locations and two stores in the San Francisco International Airport. Mid-sized teams can lead in partner innovation. One of the standout sessions for me at Catalyst Seattle 25 came from Rachael Travis and Mike Blumenstein. She shared how they built a points-based partner program that ties performance, capabilities, and commitment into one scalable system. What stood out was that Smartsheet isn’t a tech giant, yet they’ve rolled out a program that’s bold, structured, and revenue-driving. A real proof point that mid-sized companies can lead the way in partner innovation. This connects directly to one of the content pillars we’re highlighting at Catalyst Europe 25: Programs & Enablement. Kathie Osborne will also be speaking in London about her own approach to points-based programs.
