To the field technician, field supervisors, dispatchers, and anyone involved where the “rubber meets the road,” it means very little—and that’s as it should be. Field employees should be able to just open an application and do their jobs.

To the departmental director, cloud means a great deal more. It means less hassle and headache in keeping up with the latest database, operating system, and application patches. It means having a system that is always on, or on when you need it, without the heavy cost of local technical ownership—costs attributed to database licenses, hardware upkeep, data center security, network appliances, and the throngs of IT engineers that cost more than the proverbial arm and a leg.

Quintus, a Sweden-based high pressure sheet metal forming, advanced metallic material densification specialist and component manufacturer, is working with Infor’s Nordics EAM partner, Prevas, on the project. The benefits the partnership are expected to bring include more robust proactive maintenance; reduced production downtime; more accurate data reporting; and improved quality control.

Commenting on the partnership, Hans Nilsson, head of lifecycle management at Quintus Technologies, said: “Having reviewed the market, we are confident that Infor EAM, delivered by Prevas, represented a very attractive proposition for preventative maintenance. We deliver our high-pressure presses to customers all over the world across many different industries. Federal funding is growing only minimally, and transit needs are outpacing it significantly. In 2014, according to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), “…people took a record 10.8 billion trips on public transportation — the highest annual ridership number in 58 years.” This increase took place in cities and towns of all sizes, and continued even when gas prices dropped considerably. Clearly, the only way to resolve the gap between funding and growth and to keep the business on track — literally — is to become more efficient and make better decisions about how to invest limited resources. The old standby of needing to “do more with less” has never been more fitting than when applied to the transit sector.
