Rom Carmel 🚀 shared thisTldr; of the Pockets dB deletion incident.. ...When asked to explain itself, the PocketOS agent enumerated the safety rules it had been given and admitted to violating every one of them. That’s worth sitting with for a moment, because the internal guardrails were clearly present and the model could even articulate them after the fact, but none of that prevented the deletion. The controls inside an agent’s own context window are not, and probably cannot be, the layer that prevents catastrophic action. You need an outside layer the agent cannot reason its way around... Rom Carmel 🚀 reposted thisRom Carmel 🚀 reposted thisMany of you know we've been spending a lot of time exploring how agentic AI is changing cybersecurity, and how our firm believes the biggest opportunity in cyber right now is tied to how agentic AI is disrupting the way we think about Identity. A few weeks ago, our CEO, Francis Odum, sat down with Apono's co-founder Rom Carmel 🚀, in New York for a conversation about PAM. Specifically, why the category that has anchored privileged access for the last 20 years wasn't built for what's coming, and what has to change. They got into the permission inheritance problem (your developers' copilots already have standing access to everything those developers can touch, with no separate identity and no audit trail), the shift from role-based to intent-based access, and why zero standing privilege stops being optional once agents are executing at machine speed. 👉 Check out the video of the full conversation and read more about how Apono is tackling privileged access in the agentic era here: https://lnkd.in/eYzSaAjF #AIAgents #Cybersecurity #PrivilegedAccess

Rom Carmel 🚀 reposted thisRom Carmel 🚀 reposted thisSecurity incidents like the Vercel breach are a reminder of how difficult 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 has become. When a third-party app or vendor is compromised, the real impact often depends on what access already existed behind the scenes and how long it remained available. That is one reason this incident stands out. It is not just a story about vendor risk or AI tools. It is also a useful example of why security teams are 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, OAuth governance, and inherited trust across SaaS and cloud environments. In this piece, we reflect on the broader lesson through the lens of 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘀: 🔹 reducing persistent privileged access 🔹 tightening scope around what apps and identities can reach 🔹 limiting blast radius when something upstream goes wrong The goal is not to second-guess a single company navigating a hard situation. It is to look at what the rest of us can learn from it. Read here: https://lnkd.in/ge2sp3vB

Rom Carmel 🚀 shared thisI’m getting asked often by security leaders how to think about access for AI agents. How do I become an enbaler to the business (that isn't waiting and adopting AI in the masses) My answer is: securing agentic systems requires two core components. 1. Who becomes why. 2. Continous runtime authorization. ***First, context-aware guardrails.*** Agents should not have standing privileges. Access should be elevated only when need. [..this is what we have been doing for years and have a lot of data on how to do right] ***Second, runtime control.*** AI agents are non-deterministic. Even within approved access, they can deviate from their intended purpose. That is why every action needs to be evaluated in real time against the business task the agent was authorized to perform. [..this is a layer we believe is mandatory to add on top and the two layers need to work together] This is the model we believe organizations will need in order to adopt AI securely without slowing the business down. If you’re exploring agentic access security, these are the two building blocks I would focus on: context-aware guardrails and runtime authorization. Apono’s solution is live, and it’s the thing you’ve been looking for. Engineers and security teams want the same thing. When access is dynamic, scoped, and automatic, the friction disappears. Rom Carmel 🚀 liked thisRom Carmel 🚀 liked thisKnowledge is power in security. Right now, AI agents are the thing your organization knows the least about. Unlike regular SaaS apps, AI agents authenticate through tokens and delegated permissions that sit completely outside the access reviews and offboarding workflows security teams rely on. They were never designed to be tracked the same way. That structural blind spot is exactly what the team at Reco built their discovery capabilities around. Ignorance was never a security strategy.

Rom Carmel 🚀 liked thisRom Carmel 🚀 liked thisThis weekend's Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting was the first where Chairman Warren Buffett watched from the audience and new CEO Greg Abel took the helm. Overall, the theme was continuity in Berkshire's core values. For example, Berkshire is one of the most decentralized companies in the world with over 300,000 employees supported by a Headquarters in Omaha with only 27 employees. This decentralized approach is not changing. Greg Abel noted, "As a conglomerate, we live by the fact that we hate bureaucracy." But each leader brings their own style to the job, there will never be another Warren Buffett, and Abel's skills are different. At last year's annual meeting Buffett prefigured the CEO change as akin to Apple, "Only Steve Jobs could have built Apple, and only Tim Cook could have developed it into the powerhouse it is today." In his brief opening comments, Buffett reiterated this comparison and asked Tim Cook to take a bow for the excellent results he delivered to Berkshire shareholders. The Jobs to Cook analogy works well here. Berkshire started with Buffett's legendary stock picking in the 60s and 70s. Over time, Buffett expanded Berkshire into insurance businesses and industrials, buying up entire companies like GEICO and BNSF. Buffett's investment acumen built Berkshire from a small investment operation to an industrial conglomerate with a $1 Trillion market cap. But going forward from today, Berkshire is already a massive insurance and industrials business, and it is less necessary to find the next great stock. It is more about nuts and bolts operations on the businesses that Berkshire already owns. The operations world is where Abel and Cook both came from. A friend summarized this year's meeting this way, "Some people might think the focus on operations is boring, but not to me. Greg Abel's 'Canadian energy' feels like saying 'drink more water', but that is a lot operational discipline is - and I want to know how GEICO improves in its market, how does BNSF improve in its market, and so on." To meet new challenges, Buffett adapted Berkshire many times over his six decades running the company. His last big decision- turning not to a finance/investment CEO, but to an operationally focused CEO makes a fitting final brushstroke on his Berkshire painting.

Thank you to everyone for joining us for such an incredible evening! I had the privilege of sitting down with Brad Arkin for a candid look at the cybersecurity landscape. We covered everything from the history of threat actors to the massive shifts brought on by AI. Brad shared some incredible "war stories" and anecdotes, and we closed out with some predictions. When it comes to AI, we couldn't agree if it will be "worse before it gets better" or "worse before it gets worse"🤷♂️. The jury is still out, but the speed of change and the impact on businesses are undeniable. Thank you very much, Brad, for sharing your wisdom! Rom Carmel 🚀 liked thisRom Carmel 🚀 liked thisI'm thrilled to announce I've joined Apono as VP of Mid-Market Sales. The trade-off between security and access has been a headache for regulated industries for years — and the rise of agents has made it urgent. 98% of security leaders are slowing AI adoption because they don't trust the access controls underneath it. I'm fired up to join the team solving this with just-in-time, just-enough access for humans and agents that actually fits how modern teams work, and makes security an enabler instead of a blocker. Huge thanks to Rom Carmel 🚀 and Oren Kassif. Let's get to work!

The Series E-2 round, led by Iconiq Growth with participation from existing investors including Founders Fund and D1 Capital Partners, values the startup at $22.5 billion. Ramp faces off against competitors from payments startup Brex, which also offers a corporate card solution and expense platform, to giants like SAP and American Express. Its rivals are also integrating AI agents into their products. Some fintechs are still in recovery mode following a period of high interest rates, in which investment in private fintech firms fell 46% globally in late 2023. While Ramp did raise $300 million that year, it was at a valuation of $5.8 billion—short of the $8.1 billion valuation at a fundraising round in early 2022. Ramp raised $200 million about a month ago in a Series E round at a valuation of $16 billion. The latest round brings Ramp’s total capital raised to $1.9 billion. Are valuations getting "frothy"? Are early investors selling their stakes at the higher valuation? Definitely some questions worth answers too... Thoughts?

I recently had an interesting discussion, which was featured in the Financial Times with regards to how stablecoins are entering the financial mainstream - from Cross-Border Payments to Payroll. At MANSA we have built our business with #stabelcoins, as we see it as the most efficient way to transfer value real-time and to create capital efficiency across payments infrastructures and settlement layers. Stablecoins and the Future of Finance in Nigeria: A Personal Perspective In my work at the intersection of blockchain, tokenization, and digital finance, I have seen how quickly the global conversation around stablecoins has evolved. What began as a tool for traders to hedge volatility has now become a catalyst for financial inclusion, cross-border payments, and digital innovation. For Nigeria, a country with one of the fastest-growing fintech sectors in the world, the stablecoin conversation is no longer theoretical. It is about how we can practically harness this innovation to serve the everyday realities of remittances, intra-African trade, and investment access. The ISA Act 2025: A Turning Point The recently enacted Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025 has placed Nigeria firmly on the global digital asset map, formally recognizing digital assets and empowering the SEC to regulate them. As Dr Emomotimi Agama, notes, stablecoins serve dual roles: payment tools that enable seamless global transactions, and financial instruments that demand prudent oversight. This clarity lays the groundwork for innovation balanced with investor protection. Why Stablecoins Matter to Us in Nigeria Cheaper Cross-Border Payments Nigeria receives billions of dollars in remittances annually, yet transaction costs remain among the highest in the world. Stablecoins can change that. Wider Financial Inclusion With millions still unbanked, stablecoins-accessible via mobile wallets, can bridge the gap and bring more Nigerians into the financial system. Trade Efficiency in Africa As the AfCFTA and PAPSS gather momentum, stablecoins can provide SMEs and exporters with faster settlement tools and reduced forex bottlenecks. Safer Pathways to Investment With proper regulation, stablecoins can allow Nigerians to diversify portfolios, hedge inflation, and access new digital asset classes safely. My View on the Path Forward Nigeria’s digital asset landscape holds immense promise, but also significant risk. To harness it, we must adopt a proactive, activity-based regulatory framework like the EU’s MiCA and the U.S. GENIUS Act. Stablecoins for remittances shouldn’t face the same rules as those for DeFi. Transparency, consumer protection, AML compliance, and SEC–CBN collaboration must anchor this evolution. Final Thought This is more than a policy conversation; it’s about designing the future of money for Nigerians. Stablecoins represent more than digital tokens; they are the building blocks of a more inclusive, efficient, and globally connected economy. The ISA 2025 provides the legal foundation, but the real task lies with innovators, regulators, and thought leaders to shape implementation. If we get this right, Nigeria won’t just adopt stablecoins—it will lead Africa in defining the responsible future of digital finance. This is the conversation I believe we must drive, not tomorrow, but today. #Blockchain #Tokenization #decentralisation #ISA #PAPSS #Finance

This a seductive idea; that organization's context fragments, decision logic gets lost, and an organization is prone to tackle collective amnesia. BUT this comes with a lot of caveats!! - MONOCULTURE: When one system becomes the authoritative interpreter of "why things are the way they are", it will collapse pluralism. An organization actually benefits from various "contested memories". An engineer and sales guy remember different things from a discussion and that helps. Employees can stop arguing with the system not because its correct but its "coherent". - OBSERVER's EFFECT: When people know that the reasoning within systems is being captured, they will change what gets recorded. The negotiations will become "safer" and will contaminate raw signals. - CENTRALIZATION: Interpretation gets centralized upwards. It may appear leadership or executives are gaining synthesis and becoming closer to the ground. But there is no comparison to living through the frictions, not even eclectic summaries. LEADERSHIP MUSCLE NEEDS TO PRACTICE LIVING THROUGH FRICTION OTHERWISE IT WILL TURN SENILE. - BIAS AMPLIFICATION: Model's inbuilt biases can combine with company's cultural quirks resulting in misinterpretations and distortions, worse they get reinforced over time. System will learn how the company thinks and then will optimize for continuity. AMNESIA IS SOMETIME A FEATURE. - SEMANTIC TRUTHS: Unlike objective truths this system will play on subjectivity and will build "causal" relationships that are based on semantics. This over time can form mythical decision norms with no external validity. The real question isn't "CAN IT BE BUILT?". Of course it can be. But "HOW IT SHOULD BE POSITIONSED". #llms #leadership #ai

Conclusion Visa is executing a remarkably coherent strategy to position itself as the essential infrastructure layer for agentic commerce. The approach leverages existing competitive advantages (tokenization dominance, global scale, standards-setting authority) while adding new products (data tokens, spending controls, Trusted Agent Protocol) that address unique agentic requirements. The "shop for me" button is not just a catchy demo—it's the interface to a comprehensive platform designed to solve the trust, security, personalization, and control challenges that will determine whether autonomous AI agents can actually transact at scale. Most critically, Visa is moving fast while the window is open. With live transactions already flowing and general availability planned for 2025, the company is establishing potentially durable competitive advantages before the market structure solidifies. If the Trusted Agent Protocol gains wide adoption and Visa's APIs become the default integration for LLM platforms, the company could achieve in agentic commerce what it achieved in e-commerce and mobile: dominant infrastructure positioning that benefits from powerful network effects. The investment community should watch three key indicators: (1) merchant adoption metrics for Trusted Agent Protocol, (2) LLM platform launch announcements featuring Visa integration, and (3) issuer enablement progress. These will signal whether Visa is successfully executing this ambitious positioning strategy. Supporting Evidence "We're not just doing nice PowerPoints and presentations, but the really hard work to sort of weld it into the system of how agentic commerce will work going forward." — Oliver Jenkyn, V UBS Tech & AI Conference, December 2025 "We see considerable opportunity in agentic commerce... when we had the first wave of digital commerce with eCommerce, we set the standards, we led the product development and Visa was a significant beneficiary. Then you saw a second wave of commerce, which was mobile commerce. And again, Visa was the leader in terms of standards, in terms of product innovation... And now in this third wave of agentic commerce, we've been leading in terms of our role of setting the standards." — Ryan McInerney, V Q4 2025, October 2025 "I'm pleased to announce that we are now powering live agentic transactions and recently released a merchant agent toolkit to make it easy for developers to embed our solutions into workflows and agentic processes." — Ryan McInerney, V Q4 2025, October 2025 "We have more than 30 partners testing in our live sandbox, and we will soon enter the live transaction pilot phase with general availability to follow later this year as we see agentic commerce becoming a reality." — Ryan McInerney, V Q3 2025, July 2025 "Tokenization and authentication is at the very core of it. The basic principle is we're going to certify and authorize an agent, and we're going to take Will's payment credential, create a token and bin
