Get the facts on lean software development. Join experts Steven Borg and Andrew Clear, of Northwest Cadence, as they go beyond the rhetoric and offer practical tips that your team can implement today. They examine some of the core principles behind the agile and lean movements, along with the economics that support them. This discussion establishes the groundwork for the techniques that help you make intelligent economic tradeoffs in your own systems to optimize value flow to your stakeholders. Because in the end, getting value to your stakeholders is what this is all about.

Some form of regulatory compliance is commonplace in organizations across the globe and the challenge of managing adherence to the regulatory standards is ever increasing. While compliance stretches to all aspects of an organization, one of the key points will always be your software development process. Whether it be SOX, HIPPA, or PCI compliance, all of these regulatory standards require your software development process to provide a secure development environment with traceability from one end through the other. Team Foundation Server can enact your software development process and gather the necessary compliance metrics silently behind the scenes without having a negative productivity impact on your organization. Using SQL Server Reporting Services or Microsoft Office Excel, you can then pull this information out to provide an auditor with data that displays your adherence to the regulatory standards. Attend this session to learn how to use Team System to help you achieve regulatory compliance. We demonstrate tools for any type of compliance, but highlight SOX compliance issues in several portions of this presentation.

Programming ADO.NET

See publication"I'm a veteran developer who uses COM/ADO for most of his development. With 3 solid years of ADO experience (coming out of DAO beforehand and dBase before that) I couldn't suggest a better book. This is my 3rd ADO.NET book this year and I can assure you that if you buy ANY book on ADO.NET then this will be it, this will be the icing to any other book you own or the first and only book you will ever need."

Richard Hundhausen, Steven Borg, Cole Francis, and Kenneth Wilcox have combined their years of expertise in this invaluable resource to teach you how a typical wired business can leverage Web services in B2B commerce. Using a case study, the authors walk you step by step through how to take advantage of new technologies in .NET, such as ADO, ASP, and SOAP, to create XML Web services. They start with a discussion of a Web services provider case study, including the analysis, design, construction, registration, and deployment of the Web service. You'll then learn about the conceptual design of a system and receive an introduction to Object Role Modeling (ORM). Packed with useful information, the chapters also dive into topics such as:
* Database design, covering the implementation of the physical design in Microsoft SQL Server 2000
* Syntax and attributes used to code a Web service, including proper testing techniques
* The benefits of using the Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) framework
* Security-both the traditional mechanisms provided by IIS and new ones provided by ASP.NET
* Web service performance testing and tuning
The companion Web site includes the complete case study application and code used in the book. -
