Honored to moderate a fantastic panel at BioUtah's Utah Life Sciences Summit yesterday: Clinical Trials — The Evolving Landscape. Our discussion brought together three leaders representing very different parts of the research ecosystem: • Amy Goodman, Utah Data Coordinating Center • CAMERON MEALEY, Avance Clinical • Chuck Bucklar, Uncommon Cures Together, we explored how clinical trials are being reshaped by decentralization, real-world data, global expansion, and new regulatory pressures. The group highlighted that while technology is bringing research closer to patients, the industry is still learning how to balance convenience, data quality, and regulatory readiness. We also discussed the shifting global landscape—Australia’s rise as an early-phase hub, China’s rapid acceleration, and what these changes mean for U.S. sponsors and startups navigating today’s challenging investment environment. Across the board, the message was clear: innovation is accelerating, but strategic partnerships and thoughtful trial design matter more than ever. AI was another major theme. From smarter protocol design to predictive analytics, the panel agreed that AI will move clinical research from reactive to proactive—improving speed, reducing cost, and ultimately enhancing patient outcomes. AI in healthcare feels like it’s changing by the minute, and if we’re honest, the rules haven’t quite caught up yet. That’s why I really enjoyed this episode of Compliance Conversations where CJ and Walter shine a spotlight on what all of us in healthcare need to be thinking about right now. They talk about keeping innovation moving while staying compliant, the risks of “shadow AI” popping up in health tech, and how evolving privacy laws fit into the picture. Why do EMR implementations take 9 months? Because the system requires humans to learn its complexity. Traditional EMR implementations drag on for 6-9 months. Sometimes longer. Agencies delay go-lives, extend training windows, run parallel systems. Staff spend weeks learning where to click, what fields to fill, which workarounds to use. We're doing implementations in 60 days. Not because we cut corners. Because the system is designed differently. When AI handles documentation, coding, compliance, and billing automatically, there's less for staff to learn. When workflows adapt to how clinicians actually work, there's less to configure. When the system does the heavy lifting, training becomes orientation, not education. Implementation timelines reveal something important about a system. If it takes 9 months to learn, the complexity lives in the wrong place. Your technology should learn your agency. Not the other way around.

I’ll be joining the Veterinary Risk & Compliance Panel to talk about something that deserves real attention: #cybersecurity in #veterinary practices. What I respect about the veterinary community is this: as clinics adopt more digital tools, online records, and connected systems, many are recognizing the responsibility that comes with it. They understand that protecting client and patient data is part of protecting the trust people place in them. That commitment to their teams and their clients is exactly what responsible leadership looks like today. We’ll discuss practical ways to reduce cyber risk without overwhelming your staff or your budget. If you’re part of the veterinary community, I’d be glad to see you there.

At Omnibus we're showing that you can deploy AI, at scale, with the accuracy levels required for government finance applications. At the recent CSMFO conference one exhibiting vendor showed off their product: comparative finance dashboards. We built the same in under a week: https://lnkd.in/guyidfZa We used Reducto to extract text from each city's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, and then a series of Google Gemini queries to extract data at high accuracy from the report text. We pulled Single Audit data from the Federal Audit Clearinghouse API. And American Rescue Plan Act expenditure data from the US Treasury. The website was prototyped in Figma Make, designed in Figma, and implemented with Anthropic's Claude models as a static SPA in Svelte. What would take months to do pre-AI now takes days. There's a lot you can glean from public data — both Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) work hard to set accounting and transparency standards for the public finance industry.
