My son Ross and I are heading to Cleveland—where his golf journey started—to take on a challenge together: playing 100 holes of golf in a single day. We’re doing it as The Maine Lobster Rolls team, raising money to support First Tee of Cleveland. Ross was a First Tee participant and later an ambassador. The program had a real impact on him—not just as a golfer, but in how he approaches life. Now at 14, he’s preparing to play on his high school team next year, which makes this feel like a full-circle moment. If you’re open to supporting, we’d be grateful. Scott Wolf liked thisScott Wolf liked thisI hear this from founders weekly. It never ages well: "Three months to go-to-market. Profitable by six." I have sat across from founders who say this with absolute conviction. 💀 Eyes ablaze 💀 Deck polished 💀 Timeline pristine And every single time, I think: ➡️ you have not budgeted for reality This has a name ⬇️ Hofstadter's Law. Everything takes longer than you expect, even when you account for the fact that everything takes longer than you expect. (Read that twice. It is recursive on purpose.) I have watched it play out dozens of times: ⚠️ The product launch that needed "two more weeks" for four months straight ⚠️ The fundraise that was "almost closed" for an entire quarter ⚠️ The hire that was "starting next month" until three candidates fell through These founders built their entire plan on a world where: ❌ nothing breaks ❌ no stakeholder drops out ❌ and every dependency lands on schedule That world does not exist. So what do you actually do with this? 🐉 Whatever your timeline is, double it. Then budget for that number. Not the fantasy one. 🐉 Build your runway around worst-case. If you survive the worst case, the best case takes care of itself. 🐉 Stop telling investors a timeline you engineered backwards from what sounds fundable. They have seen enough decks to smell it. This OHIO school (not to be confused with University of Miami in Florida- I'm going to say it- Miami was a university before Florida was even a state 😄 ). Right now Miami is making headlines because the basketball team is top 20 in the country for the first time in a very long time (first time this century). While this is awesome, the academics and approach to preparing students for the real world is undeniable. If you look at this report- Miami produces more S&P 500 CEOs than Stanford, MIT and Duke combined. While they may be a 20,000 person school, they make massive waves in leadership and entrepreneurship. Thanks to Renee Baernstein for leading the way for the College of Arts and Sciences. SO many of those performing at the C-level in Fortune 500 and S&P 500 levels are born out of CAS. #loveandhonor #Miami #miamiuniversity
