Shimul Bhowmik shared thisDeveloper Monetization is the economic engine of #roblox — we're building the next generation of that economy, powered by deep content understanding and personalization for 100M+ users. If you want to work (or know someone who does) in an environment where you redefine what's possible at such a scale and are user-obsessed, I am #hiring Senior (full-stack) and Tech Leads (front-end) to drive this vision. - https://lnkd.in/g-baDKqS - https://lnkd.in/gAvuQBxWSenior Software Engineer, Developer Monetization (Fullstack) | RobloxSenior Software Engineer, Developer Monetization (Fullstack) | Roblox

Shimul Bhowmik shared thisScale isn't something we discuss as a nice-to-have; it is at the forefront of all our technical innovation. Lots of exciting work happening as we optimize the world's largest virtual economy.Shimul Bhowmik shared thisRoblox hit an all-time high 14.6M CCU this weekend — with a single game, 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 (2.3M) peaking above all of Fortnite combined (1.5M): On Saturday 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 became only the 2nd Roblox game to join the 2M+ CCU club, after 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐱 𝐅𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐬 hit 2.4M and later 2.7M last December, and 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 unfortunately crashed the platform at 1.76M that same month (otherwise they likely would've made it). To give you a sense of scale here: When they first peaked, and several other times throughout the weekend, 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 joined 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐱 𝐅𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐬 in another elite club — as a single Roblox game with more players than all of Fortnite, combined. And it's not just them. At the time of writing, Fortnite's main mode, Battle Royale, has 119,505 users online: that would only be the 9th largest Roblox game on the platform right now. However big you think Roblox is, double it and add a little. Amazing to see what creators are doing with the platform (and how infra is keeping it all together).

Shimul Bhowmik shared thisOver the past year at Roblox, I’ve been lucky to work on not one, but 𝘵𝘸𝘰 big projects that pushed both technical boundaries and business impact: 💸 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Launched last October, this lets creators run experiments and get price recommendations to boost long-term revenue. It led to a +𝟰% 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 — which is a big deal at Roblox scale. 🌍 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Just went live today! Creators can now automatically set prices based on local market conditions. Early tests showed huge gains — +𝟮𝟲% 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗹, +𝟱𝟮% 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, and ... — more details in our blog post (https://shorturl.at/xkYzE). I am hiring a Principal Engineer to join our team. Shimul Bhowmik shared thisOne thing I learned during my HBS course is that a failure is almost always a process failure. It’s easy to point out “one incident” that caused the failure but the real leadership challenge is to find out the chain of underlying issues that led to this.Shimul Bhowmik shared thisContext - someone on the birdside are blaming #crowdstrike on DEI hiring Here’s the thing folks. I’ve been coding 32 years. When something like this happens it’s an organizational failure. Yes, some human wrote a bad line. Someone can “git blame” and point to a human and it’s awful. But it’s the testing, the Cl/CD, the A/B testing, the metered rollouts, an oh shit button to roll it back, the code coverage, the static analysis tools, the code reviews, the organizational health, and on and on. It’s always one line of code but it’s NEVER one person. Implying inclusion policies caused a bug is simplistic, reductive, and racist. Engineering is a team sport. Inclusion makes for good teams. Good engineering practices makes for good software. Engineering practices failed to find a bug multiple times, regardless of the seniority of the human who checked that code in. Solving the larger system thinking SDLC matters more than the null pointer check. This isn’t a “git gud C++ is hard” issue and it damn well isn’t an DEI one.

Shimul Bhowmik liked thisShimul Bhowmik liked thisAt Roblox, we just announced a AI-powered playtesting agent in Studio, and I’m proud that my team built the NPC agent behind it. What excites me is not a claim that today’s agents can do everything. They can’t. They’re still limited, uneven, and far from replacing human judgment in testing or design. But the direction is becoming clear... agents are moving from answering questions to operating in worlds. We’ve already seen the broader pattern in autonomous driving and robotics: Waymo says its system has driven nearly 200 million fully autonomous real-world miles and billions of miles in simulation, while platforms like NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Microsoft AirSim are built specifically to train, test, and validate robots and autonomous systems in virtual 3D environments. That same logic is on display here. A 3D game world naturally supports the core agent loop in robotics: perceive, plan, act, learn. An agent can observe terrain, UI, hazards, and objectives; decide what to do next; execute in sequence; and improve over repeated runs. For developers, that opens the door to something better than the brittle automated test harnesses I remember studios wrestling with all the way back in my Xbox 360 days. Over time, agents can test progression, retry known failure paths, remember regressions, and even simulate multiplayer scenarios. So yes, this is a practical tool for game developers today. But it also is a glimpse of something bigger: game and simulated worlds will continue to be the most scalable proving grounds for the next generation of AI agents. https://lnkd.in/gy4u7hBs[Studio Beta] Studio Assistant & MCP Playtest Agent[Studio Beta] Studio Assistant & MCP Playtest Agent

Presence Reflects Growth — Not Just Experience Over the years, we often tell ourselves that "hard work speaks for itself." And to a large extent, it does. Skills, experience, and results form the foundation of professional success. But there comes a point in every career — especially mid to senior level — where what you've done is silently judged by how you carry it. Recently, I observed a subtle but powerful moment in a hiring interaction. The candidate — seasoned, capable, and technically strong — walked into the interview room. But from the very beginning, it was evident that something didn’t click. Not because he wasn’t qualified. Not because he lacked experience. But because his presence didn't signal his potential. His appearance, energy, and communication hadn't evolved with his experience. While his resume told a story of growth, his presence didn’t align with it — and that disconnect affected how he was perceived. This isn’t about being superficial. It’s about understanding that perception is part of performance, especially at higher levels of responsibilities. So what does it mean to let your growth "show"? It doesn’t mean pretending to be someone else. It means updating how your external presence reflects your internal journey. Here's how professionals can bridge that gap: 1. Signal intentionality through appearance You don’t need luxury brands, just clarity in dressing. Clean, professional, and role-appropriate attire sends a signal that you’re intentional and aware. 2. Refine your communication Senior roles aren’t just about execution — they’re about influence. Clear articulation, confident pauses, and active listening can often communicate more than technical answers. 3. Show growth through posture and energy Your posture, eye contact, and tone are constantly communicating — even when you're not. Leadership is often first felt, then heard. 4. Stay aligned with the evolving context No matter how experienced you are, the industry moves forward. Keeping up with trends, language, and tone shows you're still growing. In essence, presence is not about performance — it’s about preparedness. As you move up in your career, technical depth will open the door — but presence decides how far you’ll go inside the room. Closing Thought: "Experience earns respect.Presence earns attention.Together, they build trust." #Leadership #CareerDevelopment #PresenceMatters #EngineeringLeadership #ProfessionalGrowth #SoftSkills #CommunicationSkills #TechCareer

AI feels less like a feature upgrade and more like a productivity shock. The closest comparison I keep coming back to is the Industrial Revolution — chaotic in the moment, transformational in hindsight. It didn’t just cut costs. It made goods abundant. I think AI does the same for services. The real divide won’t be between companies that adopt AI and those that don’t. It’ll be between those who use it to “do the same with less” and those who use it to “do exponentially more with the same.” Efficiency is table stakes. Ambition is the differentiator. I wrote a short piece expanding on this here: https://lnkd.in/gTKGr2Dm Curious where others are landing.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻–𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 Not once, but multiple times, I’ve seen the same pattern unfold inside early-stage startups with tight margins and relentless pressure to deliver. It starts with two assumptions. → The founder believes they are overspending to bring in high-quality experience. → The veteran believes the environment will be an easy sail because they’ve handled far bigger systems. Neither anticipates how every decision will be challenged inside a constraint-heavy setup. The cycle begins the moment reality replaces assumptions. ● Early phase: Veterans map the terrain, understand the product, and get a feel for the internal rhythm. ● Next phase: They apply the polished methods that worked in structured companies. ● Following phase: Those methods demand resources, teams, and stability the startup does not have. ● Pressure rises on both sides as expectations build. ● Final step: Veterans exit thinking the product has nothing worth selling; founders reinforce the belief that only they can make things move. This friction is not about ego. Both sides are defending the identities that kept them effective in their previous environments. Veterans rely on the playbooks that built their track record. Founders rely on the instincts that kept the company alive through chaos. These instincts collide when resources are thin and timelines unforgiving. Startups operate under different physics: ◆ High ambiguity. ◆ Unstable priorities. ◆ Experiments replacing established processes. ◆ Decisions made with partial information. ◆ Ideas that fail simply because the environment cannot sustain them yet. ◆ Constant need to create momentum without the usual structure. A critical layer often missed: real alignment on context at the start. ◆ What the product is today. ◆ What it can realistically deliver. ◆ What it cannot deliver yet. ◆ What the environment can absorb. ◆ What constraints shape every decision. The gap becomes most visible in front of customers. ◆ Choosing which feature request deserves to become a real product capability is hard. ◆ Deciding what to give for free vs. what can scale into paid revenue needs discipline. ◆ Knowing when to sell the product as-is vs. selling a services layer takes real startup exposure. ◆ Without this judgment, roadmaps drift and margins collapse. Without early clarity, veterans default to familiar methods, and founders expect those methods to translate. The gap widens until confidence drops on one side and patience drops on the other. Veterans feel ineffective when their strengths require maturity the startup hasn’t reached. Founders feel misaligned when decisions that worked in larger companies collapse under smaller constraints. Both walk away believing the other side missed something fundamental. This pattern repeats across roles, industries, and stages. The cause is consistent: experience built in structure does not automatically fit environments built in scarcity.

🔥 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻 “𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗜 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀” Had an incredible evening hosting a fireside chat with Matt Kraning (𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 & 𝗖𝗧𝗢 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲, 𝗲𝘅 𝗖𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀) and a group of technology and product leaders from some of the world’s biggest 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 in the Bay Area. We discussed one of the most urgent questions facing every product and engineering organization today: building 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀, and 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲. 𝗔𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸. The companies that win won’t be the ones waiting for others to define it - they’ll be the ones learning, experimenting, evolving, and writing it themselves. Because the reality is: Your competition is already re-architecting their business around AI agents - driving higher efficiency, faster iteration, and reinvesting those gains to build better products. The next era of product leadership isn’t about adopting AI. It’s about adopting an 𝗔𝗜-𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁. Grateful to everyone who joined and contributed such sharp perspectives and open conversations.
