Arel Lidow shared thisExcited to be speaking on a panel with Duncan Greenberg about scaling health tech products for Providers and Payers!Arel Lidow shared thisHealth systems & plans provide care to and finance care for hundreds of millions of patients across the U.S. and employ millions of healthcare providers, yet they represent challenging buyers to navigate given complex sales cycles and legacy technology. To complicate matters further, Epic announced that they’re working on 160+ AI projects at their recent UGM; many health plans are building in-house or outsourcing to consultants. Are there still opportunities for startups to build AI-first solutions in partnership with these large institutions? (We think so!) Join Arel Lidow, Co-founder of Cedar & Duncan Greenberg, fmr SVP Product of Oscar Health and me alongside Shai Goldman and our partners at Brex for a panel on Wed, Sep 17th in NYC as we explore the opportunities and challenges of building for these organizations in the era of AI. Building a healthcare startup, or exploring what’s next? Apply to attend & RSVP in the link in the comments.

Arel Lidow liked thisArel Lidow liked thisI’ve just returned from a three week musical adventure with Robert Fripp and The Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists and a four date tour with the Electric Radius ensemble in northern Italy and parts of Switzerland. This was 1+ years worth of experience packed into three weeks for me. A huge thank you to my fellow collaborators and the audiences that came to see the work. This is beyond music as entertainment and an effort at seeking music’s proper place in our lives. Intention, presence, and good will are essential ingredients to what is an act of real-time collaboration, coordination, negotiation, and engagement with creative intelligence that continues to amaze me. More on the lessons learned from this experience in the weeks, months, and years to come. But for now I just want to say Thank You!

Arel Lidow liked thisArel Lidow liked thisRyan Thompson at Providence captures something every health system leader is confronting right now: patient financial responsibility is becoming more complex, and generic billing workflows are no longer enough. As more A/R shifts to patients, the challenge is not simply getting more bills out the door. It is understanding which patients need which intervention, through which channel, at what moment. That is the work Cedar is doing with Providence. In a new HealthLeaders piece, Ryan discusses how Providence is using a complementary technology ecosystem to navigate payer friction, support frontline teams, and deliver more personalized outreach to patients. One finding from our work together is especially important: only about 23% of patient bills are truly “fast and easy.” The remaining majority are not one undifferentiated hard-to-collect group. They represent different needs, behaviors, and paths to resolution. Healthcare has personalized so much of the clinical experience. The financial experience now needs the same level of intelligence. Grateful to Ryan, Leslie Flake, Greg Hoffman, Erik Wexler, and the Providence team for highlighting this important work. Arel Lidow liked thisArel Lidow liked thisAfter an incredible run at Cedar, I'm closing one chapter and opening another. Grateful to Florian Otto and Cat Arndt for the opportunity to help build something special. Cedar shaped how I think about Client Success and I'm taking everything I learned there into what comes next. What's next: I've joined Pivotal Health as Head of Client Success. Pivotal is transforming how out-of-network healthcare providers get paid — using AI and automation to fight for fair reimbursement in a system that hasn't always made that easy. The problem is real, the timing is right, and the team is exceptional. Familiar, energizing territory. And we're hiring — aggressively. If you have RCM experience, healthcare client success chops, or just want to work on a hard problem in a space that matters, let's talk. Tag someone who should be in the conversation. Grateful to Max Mangum and Josh Folds for the opportunity.

Arel Lidow liked thisArel Lidow liked thisImagine a knowledgeable friend sitting next to you, explaining your medical bill. What would she do or say? She wouldn't hand you a list of CPT codes. She'd explain what each charge means in plain language. She'd anticipate your questions before you asked them — "why didn’t insurance cover this?” — and answer them on the spot. She'd give you the clarity you need to pay with confidence, not the confusion that makes you pick up the phone. Providers can now scale that level of clarity for every patient — powered by Cedar Intelligence, our AI personalization engine. This is just one financial journey. Step into the patient's shoes and explore the others: https://lnkd.in/e2KnFYpr

Arel Lidow liked thisArel Lidow liked thisA topic that comes up consistently with finance and revenue cycle leaders? How much patient payment performance depends on timing, personalization and outreach. As balances get larger and patient responsibility grows, the distinction between sending a bill and resolving one becomes more clear. It's not enough to complete the activity. Organizations need to drive towards the right outcomes. When leaders evaluate patient payment solutions today, they're looking for a partner to generate results through technology that: - Works with the systems their teams already rely on, to minimize change - Gives patients flexible options without creating manual work for staff - Reaches patients beyond the portal with the right messaging at the right time - Uses data and AI to adapt to how different patients prefer to engage I hear this from athenahealth organizations in particular. athenaOne provides a strong foundation. Teams don't want to replace that. The opportunity they see is in extending the financial experience, modernizing it to meet the same high standard as other digital touch points in our day-to-day live. Instead of relying on the same statement cycle for every patient, through machine learning and generative AI, organizations can personalize: - When outreach happens - What options are offered - How balances are resolved We built Cedar to function as the patient payments layer for athenaOne and other major EMRs. For many organizations, the goal isn't new software. It's boosting the software they have to deliver superior results.

Big milestone for Firmable. We’ve raised $14m Series A led by Airtree. Sales has moved through a few big waves: intuition-led, CRM-led, data-led. We’re now entering the next one – intelligence-led sales. The opportunity isn’t just better data. It’s turning that data into clear direction and action, without adding more work for sales teams. That’s what we’re building at Firmable: a foundation of trusted external data, layered with intelligence that helps sellers know who to focus on and when. Led by Airtree, this round supports our expansion across Asia and into the US – and accelerates the build-out of AI agents that take the admin work off sales teams so they can focus on what they do best. Proud of the team, grateful to our customers and investors. We’re just getting started. 💡Emerging GP Fundraising Insight #8: Rolling Closes Keep You Moving Small funds can't always afford to sit still until the target is hit. Rolling closes let you start deploying earlier, build a track record, and show momentum to prospective LPs. One GP told me that for Fund I ($5M target), he took capital as it came, signed, wired, and got to work. It wasn't perfect, but it kept the lights on and the deals moving. Sometimes the "sign and wire as it comes" approach is the only way to get moving. Takeaway: Momentum is a fundraising asset and rolling closes can help you keep it. Has anyone here used rolling closes as a strategic advantage?

What kind of mindset does it take to go from building data systems at Palantir, to leading engineering at Komodo Health, to becoming CEO of Particle Health – and suing one of healthcare’s largest incumbents? Jason Prestinario is a First Builder through and through. As CEO of Particle Health, his mission is to fix patient data interoperability, so your primary care doctor, specialist, and surgeon can all make decisions using the same complete health record. What a concept, right? And yet, it’s far from reality. That’s why Jason and the team at Particle are now suing Epic, one of the industry’s largest incumbents, to push for real change. We talked about how he approaches challenges of this scale, and what keeps him grounded in the process. We sat down with Jason to talk about this and much more. Hope you'll enjoy this spicy and insightful episode! Link in comments 🌶️ 👇

Talking to users and thoughtfully integrating their needs and wants was woven through everything we did at IDEO—threaded through every prototype and product decision. Reading my colleagues Joanne and Leo's latest work brought that to mind. They describe a future where research runs continuously, with AI agents recruiting participants and instantly surfacing insights. Synthetic personas, carefully trained on consumer signals, mirror human behavior closely enough to extend live studies and compress timelines from weeks to hours. Today user research mostly runs in fits and starts, prohibitively expensive and locked away in dedicated project cycles when it could be a constant companion, seamlessly integrated into the product development process. Joanne and Leo lay out the full vision here: https://lnkd.in/gEUBSG_J

Only 1 of the top 50 AI companies are in Mass. There's been a lot of recent discussion on Boston's ecosystem being down bad and what to do about it. I put together some unpolished thoughts from my perspective, having been here for my career as a programmer, founder, and now investor. Boston's strength is that it's the world’s R&D lab, but our startup ecosystem has been stuck. Boston missed the deployment era of the web because it was too risk averse with too many MBA VCs wanting financial models and experienced founders. And this caution threatens the future of Boston's ecosystem today. I believe the core problem is cultural. Historically, Boston has optimized for pedigree and pragmatism, while SF optimized for the limitless ambition at the frontier. I'm here because Boston is the best place to build coming wave of AI-powered science. But to do that, we need to change the culture to ignore pedigree and to (re)embrace building the most ambitious technology to move humanity forward. Full post and ideas on how to fix it here: https://lnkd.in/e7qyYQN5

I spoke with Christien Louviere of BDE Capital about his journey from a $330mm exit to becoming an independent sponsor. Christien shared excellent insights for folks looking to partner with business owners, rather than buy sellers out completely. Below are a few of the topics we covered: - Why he moved from “zero-to-one” startups to a buy-then-build strategy - How Christien's background shaped a focus on growth vs. cost-cutting - Why 20–40% rolled equity is central to his deal structures—and how it builds trust with sellers - Using scenario analysis with AI tools to evaluate management teams and uncover hidden key-person risks - How to identify when a $3–5M EBITDA company truly has a middle management layer—or is still founder-reliant For anyone investing in or buying small businesses, Christien’s approach provides a fresh lens on growth, alignment, and deal structuring. 🎥 Watch the full interview here → https://lnkd.in/ekfkaiej 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/e86Agx6V
