I had the honor of moderating the Opening Keynote with non other than Lori Gottlieb. To sit down with her in front of 1000+ colleagues who I respect beyond belief and talk about the human stuff, was a moment I will never forget. The Edge conference is a vibe. There is no other way to describe it. The energy, the connections, the real people who show up to take their business - and more importantly themselves - to the next level. It is a privilege to be part of it all and every year, it makes me better. And for that, I am forever grateful. To those who have given me the opportunity - I thank you sincerely and truly. 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: Unmodeled reaction is the real risk. Many brands think they are being "bold" like Nike, only to end up issuing an apology like Bumble Inc.. The difference isn't the level of "edge", it’s the 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨. If your core audience loves the message, a loud minority is just noise. But if your core audience is the one feeling the "Anger," you’ve hit a fracture point. The Tarheel Trailblazers Mountain Bike Association was founded in 1990 by a handful of local mountain bike enthusiasts. The Trailblazers is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Over the years the association has grown to over 650 resourceful, energetic and active men and women of all ages. Our volunteers work directly with local land managers, building and assisting in the maintenance of over 110 miles of carefully constructed, sustainable mountain bike trails, in the Metro – Charlotte…

Specialist printers run at volume beverage distributors with regional shops can never achieve. They're printing thousands of jobs daily across hundreds of clients. That volume drives three structural cost advantages your regional facilities can't touch (even with identical equipment). #1: Bulk Material Purchasing Power Specialist printers buy paper, ink, and consumables in volumes 10-100x larger than regional shops. Your shop orders pallets. They order rolls of paper the size of a truck. And they're negotiating rates you'll never see (sometimes so low they can print your job for less than you'd pay for the paper alone) #2: Optimised Production Scheduling Specialists run 24/7 production schedules across multiple presses, batching compatible jobs to maximise uptime. The typical regional shop? Running 1-2 presses with gaps between jobs, manual changeovers, downtime waiting for the next order. They process in hours what takes you days. That gap means their fixed costs spread across far more output. Your cost per order carries more overhead because the press sits idle. #3: Automated Workflows Specialist printers invest in automation because volume justifies the ROI: • Robotic finishing • Integrated quality control • Automated material handling Whereas a beverage distributors shop looks like: • Manually handling materials • Brushing floors clean of scraps • Running finishing equipment one job at a time Automation spreads labour costs across thousands of orders. But automation only makes financial sense at high volume. You don't have that volume. So your labour cost stays high. The bottom line: Even if you bought identical equipment to a specialist printer tomorrow, you still couldn't match their cost structure. Our outsourced print cost come close to the price of paper alone for our old in-house press. The scale advantage was unbridgeable: We had neither: → The volume to negotiate bulk rates → nor the utilisation to spread fixed costs → nor the throughput to justify automation So the question isn't "How do we get more efficient?" It's "Why are we still doing this when specialists can deliver better quality at a fraction of our cost?" For distributors still running in-house, here’s my advice: Get out of the scale race, outsource to specialists, and deploy capital towards sales capability that actually wins placements.
