It's easy to look at SF/NYC, see a wave of "builders" and want to be in that environment. But from the outside, it's hard to tell what's hype and what's real. In Atlanta, companies can only raise on strong metrics and a clear path to profitability. If you join a startup here, you can be confident they're built to last, not to follow trends Eventually, the hype cycles will cool off, and the startups with real traction and disciplined growth will remain. You'll want to be in Atlanta when that happens.

But if the next wave is what many industry leaders are already hinting at — a consolidation where only deep tech players and real data moats survive — then most of what we see today won’t make it through the storm. At SmartUp Holdings Inc, we’re not building a wrapper. We’re building an ark. Max Mardones (our CEO) often says that what we’re constructing is a battleship designed to cross the AI flood — not a shiny speedboat optimized for calm waters. While others optimize for short-term traction or “AI feature velocity,” we’re obsessing over: • Executional depth • Revenue-moving AI • System-level orchestration • Real-world transaction reliability • Data compounding over time Right now, the financial optics might not look spectacular. And that’s fine. Noah didn’t build the ark during sunshine because it looked profitable. He built it because he understood what was coming. This session was packed with insights that every student interested in entrepreneurship should hear: 🔹 Use AI extensively to accelerate coding, research, and prototyping. 🔹Talk to potential buyers early to validate the real problem before building. 🔹 Avoid patenting too early — focus on learning, traction, and iteration. 🔹 Two co-founders is the ideal structure — complementary skills matter. 🔹 Launch early and avoid perfectionism; progress beats polish. 🔹 Prepare a clear pitch deck outlining the problem, solution, and market. One point that stood out: 40% of co-founders meet in university. Opportunities to collaborate, build, and innovate are all around us — we just need to take initiative. Right now, inspecting a concrete bridge deck takes days of manual data analysis. The software either doesn't exist or is locked behind expensive hardware you have to buy first. Verus changes that. Raw GPR data in, engineer-ready condition maps out in minutes, not weeks. Hardware agnostic. AI does the heavy lifting, engineer makes the final call. We're incredibly excited to share that Verus won the Klaus Startup Challenge, receiving $150K from Fusen World for 10% of the company, valuing it at $1.5M. This summer in CREATE-X, we'll be building toward our first paid pilot, getting field data into the model, and proving that our model works on real inspection data. Goal: 90%+ accuracy on real field data by June. 3+ inspection firms on the platform by August. We would like to extend our thanks to our mentors and judges: Jennifer Whitlow, EdD, Mitchell Walker, Joseph Oefelein, and Lydia V. Students, faculty, and alumni of the university are surrounded by incredible resources and the city’s mission to increase innovation output is creating the perfect environment. This week was the Georgia Tech CREATE-X I2P: Idea to Product showcase as well as the end of year capstone design expo and I was amazed at what was being built. Software, hardware, healthcare, space…they covered the spectrum with game changing concepts. Atlanta is soon to be a top tech hub.

Christopher Klaus liked thisChristopher Klaus liked thisThis is way harder than I remembered. Some honest reflections so far building my 4th startup… 1. Founder amnesia is real. This is much harder than I remembered. Forgot how brutal 0 > 1 actually is. It’s a grind. 2. Being a repeat founder reduces execution risk, but not strategy risk. I move faster. But I still keep asking myself “am I building the right thing?” 3. I’ve been way less stressed throughout this Founder & CEO journey than before. I’m a bit older and wiser and can handle it better. Dramatically fewer panic attacks this time around :) 4. Launching with lots of buzz is overrated. It gave our marketplace a head start. But nearly 100% of our early v1 customers churned when we built v2 for a better ICP. Don’t overthink launching - just ship. 5. Building in public is a big trade off. It’s been great for Loop’s brand and helps every part of the company. But it’s also been a distraction from product and customers. Cuts into my time and focus. 6. Every company has a different “tempo”. Upbeat had a daily heartbeat (music rehearsals every weekday). Infinite Giving had a quarterly heartbeat (macro economics, quarterly advisor fees). Loop has a monthly cadence for users who routinely declutter or donate stuff. 7. The customer is still always wrong. People don’t know what they want. I ignore 99% of feature requests. We ship stuff people never asked for (even stuff they said they’d hate) - and they love it. B2B might be different. But in consumer, your taste matters most. 8. Startups are experiment machines, and Loop is no different. Every feature is a test. Most of mine die. The ones that live look obvious in hindsight. It kills me how many founders fall in love with their features. 9. My favorite part of building is still the people. The Loop team, and also our extended team - customers who love us, investors betting on us, and founders giving us intros. Hudson and I are in the trenches every day and having a blast. Christopher Klaus liked thisChristopher Klaus liked thisHudson joined us 10 months ago as Head of Operations. Starting today, he’s Co-founder & COO. He came from the structural engineering world. No previous startup experience. I knew he'd be great at operations, but I wasn't sure exactly how he'd do in a pre-seed startup. When Hudson started, he asked a lot of questions. Like, a lot. But he never asked the same question twice. He absorbed everything. Took notes. Got sharper every single week. He went from the guy learning the business to the guy leading all daily operations. Somewhere along the way, he stopped being someone I was managing and started being someone I was building alongside. Loop is a better company because of him - operationally, strategically, culturally, and all the small things that don't show up in weekly metrics. This update is less of a promotion and more of his title finally catching up to the role he stepped up into months ago. Making it official: Hudson Harris is now Co-founder & COO. It’s amazing what happens when you bet on people who are hungry to figure things out.

Also, the dynamic protection system can receive policy updates to allow it to protect the system more efficiently and effectively. In other words, the dynamic protection system can protect an evolving computer system operating in an environment that is characterized by constantly changing methods of attack. Furthermore, by minimizing a need for manual intervention, attacks can be rapidly and accurately detected with a minimization of false positives, thereby lowering the cost of operation.

A system and method is disclosed for detecting security vulnerabilities in a computer network. The system includes an IP spoofing attack detector, a stealth port service map generator, a source port verifier, source routing verifier, an RPC service detector and a Socks configuration verifier. Each of these verifiers may be operated separately or as a group to detect security vulnerabilities on a network. Each verifier may be programmed to exhaustively test all ports of all computers on a network to detect susceptibility to IP spoofing attacks, access to services with little or no authorization checks or misconfigured routers or Socks servers. The detected vulnerabilities or the location of services having little or no authorization checks may be stored in a table for reference by a network administrator. The service map generated by the stealth service map generator may be used to identify all service ports on a network to facilitate the operation of the other verifiers which send service command messages to service ports to detect their accessibility. A graphic user interface (GUI) may be used to provide input and control by a user to the security verifiers and to present options and display information to the user.

🎉 Happy Friday folks 💥— A bonus as we finish off February and head toward the vernal equinox, we're releasing two new features in DocParse: VLM-based vision pipelines for document parsing, and LLM voting for agentic property extraction. We have seen Vision language models, or VLMs, become increasingly capable at parsing documents. Today we are happy to announce a new option in DocParse that lets you use PaddleOCR-VL 1.5 model for the entire pipeline from segmentation to OCR to table extraction. It’s both fast and super accurate (SOTA on OmniDocBench). Our agentic property extraction feature allows you to extract structured information from your documents. The feedback from customers is that they want to know how good the quality is, so we added LLM voting. We perform extraction with LLMs from three leading frontier model providers and use the agreement among them to help you assess the quality. The more LLMs that agree, the more likely the value is correct. It’s also a good sanity check of the quality of your schema. We can't wait for you to take it for a spin and tell us what you think. The Reality Defender API is the antigen test of deep fakes: with two lines of code, you can determine if a bad actor is attempting to spoof your human identity infrastructure (e.g., a fake candidate interviewing for a remote developer role on Zoom, voice identification for your bank, etc.). A game changer in ease of use and operations in preserving human identity.

This announcement is something that I have been dying to tell everyone about…and not just because it reminds me of the tech from Oscorp in Spider-Man. For all the biologists and scientists out there, allow me to introduce Trilobio and its new robot, Trilobot One. Trilobio was founded by 776 Foundation fellow Roya Amini-Naieni (our $100K was one of her VERY FIRST CHECKS!) to fully automate every biology lab in the world. Roya is a biologist who was disappointed with the lab automation technology available to scientists like her and her friends. Lab automation was either too expensive or too unreliable, and connecting everything was $$$$. She co-founded Trilobio with Maximilian Schommer to revolutionize lab automation. Trilobots autocalibrate themselves, can hold eight completely different lab tools, and they can snap together and collaborate with each other. LFG! Trilobio has an ambitious vision, a great team, and their robots just look amazing (watch the video!!!). Be sure to check them out if you are a biologist (even if you are a startup, they have an affordable price point).

What value will we retain after this current hype cycle of clawdbot / moltbot / openclaw + moltbook 🦞🤖 Personal AI that works on stuff while you sleep Sovereign AI Agent to agent coordination Technology that gets you paid > laid or made Technology that empowers non coders to get things done without engineering resources Next generation cyber security to secure an agent-first world Hybrid local/edge + cloud infrastructure for AI Hybrid AI model usage (right tool for the job - many bots are swapping between models) The biggest unlocks for this architecture will be in the enterprise and this cycle sets the foundation for the next one but we haven’t seen anything yet…

Nvidia just released nemoclaw Link in comments. Their toolkit of enterprise safe claw bots. I will take a look and have a review, isolated sandboxes, NVIDIA compute, security policies. You can do most of this in docker and docker compose, but the benefit here is one click install. Enterprise level AI employees are not ready for prime time, but soon they might be. And when they are ready? 24/7 always on AI Employees.

If it can happen to them, it can happen to anyone. The U.S. government’s default messaging app, TM SGNL — a custom version of Signal — just had its source code exposed publicly. The reason? A simple file permission error on a WordPress site. The leak included hardcoded credentials and revealed how all messages — texts, calls, media — are engineered to log all communications automatically. With RL techniques like GRPO, it’s become easy to fine-tune small models to outperform foundation models on vertical tasks. We’re open sourcing Osmosis-Apply-1.7B: a small model that merges code (similar to Cursor’s instant apply) better than foundation models. Links in comments! Using foundation models for high specificity, low complexity tasks like code merging can be overkill - instead, it’s better to use a specialized model instead for higher performance and latency. We fine-tuned the model on 100K real-world code commits where the model needs to merge a code edit snippet into an original code snippet. On the test dataset (subset of CommitPackFT), foundation model performance ranged between 0.77-0.93 reward score. In comparison, Osmosis-Apply-1.7B achieved a 0.98 reward score - while also being 3X-5X more affordable than the next cheaper model AND ~10X faster! Why this matters: the best AI agents use multiple models to ensure task specialization and reliability at scale - on top of cost and latency benefits as well.
