Connie Bustillo shared thisDr. Jimenez is a shining testament to the strength, resilience, and courage of immigrants everywhere. His journey isn’t just a personal success story—it’s a powerful reminder that determination, sacrifice, and hope can overcome even the toughest barriers. He embodies what’s possible when talent meets perseverance, and his achievements uplift not only his own community, but everyone inspired by his example.Connie Bustillo shared thisGrateful to have been invited to speak at the Northern California Association of Phi Beta Kappa Conference at Asilomar, where I offered a personal perspective that challenged common media portrayals of immigrants and underscored the power of storytelling to preserve identity, foster empathy, and transform lives through education and human connection. Featured was a screening of "The Unbroken Sky," a dramatic film adapted from my memoirs.

Connie Bustillo reposted thisConnie Bustillo reposted thisAt WWDC we introduce a new generation of LLMs developed to enhance the Apple Intelligence features. We also introduce the new Foundation Models framework, which gives app developers direct access to the on-device foundation language model. https://lnkd.in/eV374dGK We crafted these generative models to power the wide range of intelligent features integrated across our platforms. The models have improved tool-use and reasoning capabilities, understand image and text inputs, are faster and more efficient, and are designed to support 15 languages. Our latest foundation models are optimized to run efficiently on Apple silicon, and include a compact, approximately 3-billion-parameter model, alongside a mixture-of-experts server-based model with a novel architecture ("parallel track") tailored for Private Cloud Compute. These two foundation models are part of a larger family of generative models created by Apple to support our users. In the blogpost we describe the architectures of the models we designed, the data we used for training, the training recipes we employed, the techniques we used to optimize inference, and our evaluation results when compared to comparable models. We look forward to sharing more details on updates to our language foundation models in a future technical report. I'm very excited about the progress we have made since last year and would like to take this opportunity to thank our team and collaborators. It has been a true privilege to work with you all! We are looking for world-class researchers and engineers to join our efforts. Check out https://lnkd.in/eiVyMVJw and DM me if you are interested.

Connie Bustillo reposted thisVery exciting work by the team! 🎉 Also researching multimodal LLMs? Join us, we're hiring: https://lnkd.in/dKmSMpGxConnie Bustillo reposted this🚀 Excited to share our new work on exploring 3D Spatial Understanding in Multimodal LLMs! Multimodal LLMs excel at 2D image understanding, but their 3D spatial reasoning remains weak — a crucial limitation for robotics, AR/VR, and other spatial AI applications. To address this, we introduce: 📀 CA-VQA — A fine-tuning dataset & benchmark for spatial understanding that: (1) is based on high-quality 3D ground truth data, (2) covers rich input signals incl. metric depth maps (both from sensors and monocular estimated) and multi-view images, and (3) includes diverse spatial understanding tasks (e.g., spatial relationship prediction, metric object size / distance estimation, 3D bounding box prediction). 🤖 MM-Spatial — A strong generalist MLLM trained on CA-VQA + other multimodal fine-tuning datasets (incl. general VQA, knowledge, text-rich), resulting in state-of-the-art performance on spatial understanding tasks. The model supports Chain-of-Thought-style spatial reasoning involving 2D bounding box prediction and monocular depth estimation (which we found to be very accurate), and it can also leverage depth map input via tool-use. 🔗 Check out our technical report for more details and results: https://lnkd.in/d995nR2g This was a great effort with amazing collaborators Nina Wenzel, David Griffiths, Haiming Gang, Justin Lazarow, Gefen Kohavi, Kai Kang, Marcin Eichner, Yinfei Yang, Afshin Dehghan, and Peter Grasch.

Connie Bustillo reposted thisConnie Bustillo reposted thisEarlier this year, #Apple published a novel speculative decoding approach called ReDrafter(https://lnkd.in/g-teKR_Z), which demonstrated significant acceleration of billions of parameters LLMs for Inference. To make this advancement production ready for NVIDIA GPUs, the team collaborated with #NVIDIA to integrate ReDrafter into NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM (https://lnkd.in/gK86SfgQ) framework, achieving 2.7x speed up on generation tokens. Community can now benefit from faster token generation for their production LLM workloads on Nvidia GPUs. Connie Bustillo reacted on thisConnie Bustillo reacted on thisToday officially marks the last day of my 11 year journey at LinkedIn 🥲😭 This will forever be the place I built my career and learned how to be an adult. I started at LinkedIn right out of college - I still remember telling my first manager in an early career conversation that I wanted to be a PM (barely knowing what any of the roles even meant). He probably wondered if he’d just hired a flight risk. Neither of us would have guessed I’d still be here a decade later. I’ve had plenty of professional milestones, but my best memories will always be about the people. The hardest part about this post was choosing the photos since I have way too many, so these will have to do! To my team - one of the best parts of my job was getting to know you all and support your growth journeys. I’m proud of what we built together, and I can’t wait to cheer you on as you 2x developer productivity. To my bosses and mentors - thank you for believing and investing in me. You showed me what it means to be surrounded by inspiring people who can amplify your potential and bring out your best. To my confidants and close friends - thank you for the laughs, the rant sessions, and always being there when I needed to lean on someone. To everyone else I‘ve met, worked with, bothered, and asked for favors - thank you for being part of my journey. I will miss you all 🥹 As for my next play, I won’t be too far away. I’m excited to share that I’ll be joining Apple under Machine Learning Platform Technologies, working on validations for their search platform!

And now we're giving you the heads up! River DroughtCast predicts streamflow drought up to 90 days in the future, providing communities around the country with tools to protect vital water sources - before drought strikes. USGS scientists used ground-breaking machine learning techniques to predict moderate, severe, or extreme drought conditions using current water data, soil moisture, snowpack data, and weather forecasts. Features of River DroughtCast include: -Interactive web map of over 3,000 streamgages across the lower 48 states -Current drought conditions for each gage -Model-based predictions of the drought status of each gage up to 90 days in advance -Mobile-friendly features -Customizable views, state summaries, data downloads, and more! Later this year we’re planning to add current conditions and forecasts for ungaged areas

Connie Bustillo reacted on thisAfter 7.5 years at 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲, I’m closing an incredible chapter and starting a new journey. I partnered with talented AI/ML teams building the foundational data and ML infrastructure behind many of Apple’s flagship products and newer generative AI features. Later on, I supported globally distributed product engineering teams and one of Apple’s internal ML platforms across multiple regions. I’m grateful for the trust and partnerships that enabled us to pursue bold bets and turn a few early moonshots into real product impact, and for the many engineers and managers who trusted me with their careers along the way. Excited for what’s next. I joined 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮 to support infrastructure teams and continue building infrastructure that powers products at scale 🚀
