Imagine telling a plumber he only needs to fix a couple leaky faucets only to find the entire house needs to be repliumbed. The plumber won’t do the extra work without you paying them. Why should you? that plumber will expect to be paid a fair rate for his work and won’t just throw in free work. Companies need to start using that view to put their own needs in perspective.
How many companies have any of us left because the expectations were unfair only to later find that it took 2 or more new employees to perform what you weren’t being paid fairly to do?

The interviewer asked as the last question for a program management role, "What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?" I was dumbfounded, gave her probably the strangest look I've ever had, and answered: "That's an impossibility because there's always a risk that something goes wrong. If I ever thought that, I'd conclude that I did a crappy job of risk assessment and go back and review absolutely everything and have colleagues cross-check me." I walked out scratching my head wondering how someone imagined that question, and it was for a company most people heard of. I expected I wasn't a fit and moved on.

Experienced something similar recently. Two panel interviews. Each panel had -- wait for it -- ONE panelist. The second interview took 3 tries to schedule (1st one cancelled an hour before, 2nd one gave me no advance notification or checked availability, 3rd was best described as "beige"). Three weeks later I'd already written it off when I informed my recruiter that I no longer had interest. Got her response to say sorry I didn't respond, it's apparently a "no" from them as well, but "not a complete rejection". The path to the second interview was already fraught with more red flags than a Chinese circus, so I'm thankful I dodged that bullet.
