Fritz Lanman shared thisI’m so proud that ClassPass has been named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies. But I'm even more excited that this gives the amazing people who built ClassPass the recognition they so deserve. Not just the visionary founders, but the absolutely delightful, mission-driven super-hustlers across the CP team (especially those still here but also alumni and the rapidly growing list of boomerangs!) who overcame so many ridiculously hard chapters to build ClassPass into the iconic brand that it is today. And I'm so excited for what's ahead. So many of these people are still at Playlist and we've got so many others like them. ClassPass won’t be the last Playlist brand on this list.Fritz Lanman shared thisClassPass is a TIME100 Most Influential Company! As consumer needs have evolved, so has ClassPass. What started in fitness has grown into a broader platform for wellness and other IRL experiences, all with the goal of helping people discover and book experiences that fit their lives. This recognition would not be possible without our partners and users. Thank you to the businesses that build with us and to the users who continue to make ClassPass part of their routines. Thank you to TIME for the recognition. See the full list here: ti.me/100companies #TIME100Companies

Fritz Lanman shared thisSo fired up to officially be joining forces and to officially be partners with Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer and his team, and to advance our shared mission of fueling a more active and inspired world. I’m incredibly proud of and grateful to the teams that brought this merger to life. Their resilience, dedication, and belief in what we’re building has made this moment possible, and I am grateful to work alongside them every day. The best is ahead, and I can’t wait to see what we build together.Fritz Lanman shared thisToday marks a defining moment in our journey to transform global health. I am thrilled to announce the successful closing of EGYM’s merger with Playlist. By uniting with Mindbody, ClassPass, and Booker, we have established the world’s most comprehensive wellness technology operating system. What excites me most about this is that we are building this for the long term. As I shared in our announcement today: "Playlist is now a founder-led company, meaning Fritz Lanman and I will have a decisive voice in shaping where Playlist goes. We are now uniquely positioned to grow the entire industry by building the long-awaited bridge between fitness, wellness, and the healthcare market. Together, we are establishing the first truly global wellness technology operating system – running at a scale that will redefine health and longevity for the next generation as we make investment decisions for the long term." With 3,000+ colleagues and an unmatched global network, we are finally building the bridge that will shift healthcare from repair to prevention. Fritz Lanman posted thisToday is the biggest day of my career (and I didn't make a dime). I am SO excited to announce that we have signed a definitive agreement to merge with EGYM and that we have secured $785m in new equity investment commitments led by Affinity Partners and our longtime investors Vista Equity Partners, L Catterton and Temasek. For over a decade we've been building technology with a simple belief: tech should get people off their screens and into IRL experiences - especially ones that help improve their wellness. After closing, this combination and investment will allow us to dramatically accelerate that vision by helping our customers and partners to grow and thrive. I can't wait to (once this deal closes) partner with EGYM Cofounder and CEO Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer, who will join me as Co-Founder of Playlist (and who will continue to run EGYM as CEO, and also will become co-Chairman of Playlist along with Monti Soraya from Vista). And also to partner with the EGYM team to advance our shared mission of fueling a more active and inspired world. I am so proud of and grateful to my team for the hard work and incredible resilience they have exhibited getting us to this point. Not many companies have faced as many challenges as we have (turnarounds, pandemics, etc.) - my team now embraces these and sees them as opportunities to grow and advance our mission. And even fewer companies have more loyal and talented management teams (our ELT has put up with me for an average of more than 10 yrs!). EGYM is one of the very few other successful tech companies out there that has been through similar adversity. I can't wait to see what these teams achieve together. So thanks to my team, my ELT, my new partner PRS and his team, to all our customers and partners (especially those who have been patient with us as we continue to work our tails off to better serve you), to our incredible investors (especially Vista, who could have taken the win and called it a day but are instead doubling down, and writing a new playbook with us!). Finally, thanks to my wife and daughter - who tolerate the insane hours, travel, stress that comes with the territory of this gig because they know I love nothing more than trying to advance this mission with this team.

Fritz Lanman shared thisExcited to announce our new parent brand, Playlist! Playlist unites Mindbody, Booker, and ClassPass under one roof through shared technology, AI, partnerships, and leadership. While nothing is changing about our products or how we serve our customers today, this new identity represents a shift in how we’re thinking about and building for the future. I’ve always believed in the potential of tech to bring about profound good in the world. That belief still holds. But it’s been disheartening to see how, over the past 15 years, so much tech innovation has been focused on keeping us glued to our screens. And the evidence is clear: study after study shows that these products are like modern-day cigarettes - they're designed to be addictive and they're ultimately harmful to our physical and mental well-being (especially our kids!) We’re trying to do something different. We're building a tech company with the goal of getting people *off* their screens, spending their time instead on IRL experiences that help improve their wellness, build their community and bring more "play" into their lives. We will achieve this by continuing to build great, AI-enabled software that helps entrepreneurs curate delightfully rewarding local experiences and maximize their impact and reach. And we will also provide consumers with UX's that get them off their couches and into the world. I'll spare you the belabored "Day One" cliche. Those who have followed our story know that it's been a decade of hard grinding: business model reinventions & brand evolutions, one-in-a-hundred-year pandemics, and software transformations. "Hard things" as Ben Horowitz coined it. But that 10-year grind is also why I have never been more confident that we're going to win. I have seen my team take down challenge after challenge, year after year; each time blowing past my sky-high expectations and redefining what "good" looks like. They run at challenges as opportunities to engage in deep work they can be proud of, to push their creativity, to push themselves and each other. And to deliver for our customers. Yes, having a great mission, strategy, product etc. matters, but the single best lesson for me on this journey has been that teams matter more than anything—and should be judged by the adversity they've overcome rather than whether they were able to land a job at the "hot company du jour”, riding on network effects rather than salty blood, sweat and tears. Underestimate this team at your own peril. Finally, this isn’t just a “marketing” pivot. Our software powers more enriching IRL experiences a year than any company I know of—everything from workouts and spa treatments to blowouts to kids’ chess classes and cooking lessons. And we're going bigger. We are building the "playlist" of our lives.Fritz Lanman shared thisToday, we’re proud to announce Playlist, a new parent brand bringing Mindbody, Booker, and ClassPass together under one unified identity with a mission to drive more wellness in the world and help people live better lives, away from screens. This move reflects how far we’ve come—over the past two decades, we’ve evolved into a diversified portfolio of industry-leading brands across fitness, wellness, beauty, and lifestyle. Playlist is the next step in that evolution. We power the businesses that bring you workouts, wellness, recovery, self-care, and more. We’re not here to keep you scrolling. We’re here to get you moving, connecting, and living. Learn more at playlist.com

Fritz Lanman liked thisFritz Lanman liked thisThis past month I attended Playlist’s (MindBody x ClassPass) Presidents Club in Mexico. I got to represent the account executives from the outbound motion on the Mindbody side of the company. Hard work really does pay off and I want to thank my entire leadership for recognizing my effort. I was not only recognized as a top performer, but also elected as MVP for the MindBody North American team. It was truly an honor hearing all the kind words opening night about the impact I’ve been able to provide. Hitting 100%+ to quota quarter after quarter is a tall task for any sales executive. Shoutout to everyone on this trip that I got to spend time with on Isla Mujeres. Can’t think of a better group of people to celebrate with for 3 days like we did! Post Presidents Club Takeaways: - Don’t take no for an answer. I applied to MindBody 3 total times in an 8 month period before getting hired. I was told the two previous time applying that I didn’t have the qualifications. I hit Pclub my fist year & won MVP. Determination and a chip on my shoulder has defined my successful career so far. - Good companies reward their employees. Mindbody is a great example of a business that cares about the mental/physical health of its people. The presidents club trip is just one of the many things they do to make sure employees feel appreciated. You don’t see that everywhere in corporate America sadly. - Making great money is the goal, but memories last longer. I can honestly say that this trip to Mexico will stick with me forever. The rewards and speeches were great, but every single person on the trip was a blast to be around. There wasn’t a single moment that felt “corporate-y” from start to finish. Amazing people, spectacular island views, and unique experiences made this an all time great trip.

Fritz Lanman reacted on thisFritz Lanman reacted on thisIsla Mujeres, Mexico was the backdrop last month as we celebrated the top 6% of Playlist's sales teams at our 2026 President's Club. I was thrilled to honor nine remarkable individuals from the ClassPass Americas Partnerships team, including Abby Stack, Stephanie Valponi, Grace Gallo, Crystal Wendt, Jill Greenhut, Caroline Farley, Melanie Lockett, Ana Letícia Matos, and Monica Laidens. Each one earned their spot by applying their grit, creativity and drive for results in a year defined by transformational change. A special shoutout to Crystal Wendt who earned top honors as the MVP for the entire CP Americas Partnerships team not only as a result of her exemplary performance but also her commitment to adaptability, ownership, and dogged determination. Thanks, as well, to my fellow global revenue leaders Julia Darnton Healey, David Whitby, Ashley Mattis, Kinsey Livingston, Kristin Heintz, Eva Lauer and of course Brian Fields and Cecilia Boyed for leading such an amazing event, and all you do throughout the year! Between these sellers leading from the front and the wave of new talent joining us, 2026 is shaping up to be another banner year.

founders that have only ever worked within a large company tend to be empty vessels. the most valuable skill at a big company is identifying who has (or could soon have) power and then aligning with and advocating for their ideas as if they were your own. take a spin through the recent YC class and you see a pattern of big company mids all founding the same AI for xyz... its not really their idea, it just sounds good. the board meetings will be especially painful. founders acting like they work for the investors, seeking approval, lost in the woods. there are exceptions. but they tend to be founded before zirp. when founding a company was hard and low prestige and there wasn't capital at every turn. an empty vessel doesn't jump into the abyss without first raising a $5m round from the 9 figure 'seed firms'.

I’m thrilled to officially announce our $3M seed investment in Propel People, a company we built inside the 1848 Ventures studio to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing the #construction industry today: the skilled #labor shortage. For small and medium-sized contractors, hiring isn't just a challenge. It's the number one threat to their growth, profitability, and safety. With 94% of contractors struggling to find qualified workers, it’s clear that traditional hiring methods aren't built for the trades. That’s why we built Propel People. It’s a mobile-first, AI-powered hiring platform designed for how construction actually works: in the field. By leveraging smart candidate ranking, instant #SMS-based screening, and a fully #bilingual interface, Propel helps contractors build great crews faster and more efficiently. I’m also thrilled to formally announce that industry veteran Dexter Bachelder is at the helm as CEO. Having worked with Dexter and the team over the last few months, we've already seen the impact of his leadership. His 25 years of experience scaling construction tech companies will be instrumental as Propel People enters this initial stage of growth. This investment reinforces our core thesis at 1848 Ventures: building AI-native companies that solve fundamental pain points for the #SMBs that form the backbone of our economy. A huge congratulations to Dexter and the entire Propel People team on this milestone. We are incredibly proud to partner with you to support the people who build our world. 🚀 This month at LvlUp Ventures we’re investing in 100+ companies. Not over the next year. Not “by Q4.” This month. Why? Because the next iconic companies aren’t waiting for perfect timing. They’re being built right now — in dorm rooms, tiny apartments, co-working spaces, late at night after full-time jobs. And capital shouldn’t be the bottleneck to ambition. Because momentum loves speed. Because the best founders aren’t waiting for perfect market conditions. Because early belief changes trajectories. So instead of sitting on the sidelines debating spreadsheets for weeks, we’re choosing momentum. 👇 Drop your one-liner in the comments and I’ll DM you. #Startups #VentureCapital #VC #AngelInvesting #Founders #Entrepreneurship #StartupFunding #Investing #Innovation #BuildInPublic #SeedStage #EarlyStage #TechStartups #Fundraising #LevelUp

Every hire, product feature, and GTM experiment is a capital allocation decision, most teams just don’t call it that. I’m kicking off a 3-part series on capital allocation for founders, operators, and finance leaders with a simple question: ➡️ Will the next $1 you deploy become worth more than $1? Series overview Part 1: defines the core concept + the math Part 2: where capital goes + how to measure whether it’s working Part 3: AIMS framework for communicating allocation decisions to management teams and your board Part 1 (attached here) lays the practical foundation: 🔹 The $1 invested test and ROIIC vs. hurdle rates (scoreboard vs. decision lens) 🔹 A lightweight “investment brief” to evaluate bets (GROW / BUILD / BUY) 🔹 The small metric toolkit that translates finance into operating decisions (NPV / payback / ROIIC / incremental margin) 🔹 Early-stage proxies when DCF inputs are unknowable (burn multiple + revenue quality) 🔹 Operator “vital signs” to spot drift early (profit engine, leverage, cash conversion, optics) Series Roadmap ✔️ This series (Parts 1–3): breadth-first. shared, lightweight framework to define value creation, choose decision-grade metrics, and communicate tradeoffs clearly ✔️ Next series: depth-first. momentum drivers + operational decisions that need near real-time measurement to spot drift early and course-correct fast Read Part 1 here and Part 2 and 3 on substack. Next Series will be out next week. 💰 What’s one bet you’re funding right now, and how will you prove it’s working?

Lately I’m hearing more founders being told to delay revenue to make early growth metrics look better for fundraising. I get the logic, but it just feels wrong. Early revenue is an important learning loop. Don’t stunt your business just to package it for VCs

Boards are supposed to help founders. Over the past 19 years, I've watched many trap them instead. As companies scale, many boards turn from insight to oversight and stop doing what founders actually need: Help making big, hard decisions. Early boards tend to be small, the board members are close to the business and highly invested in it. They argue from first principles. They help founders think. Later-stage boards often look more impressive on paper - they have more independent directors, committees and process. Somewhere along the way, collective problem solving gets replaced with oversight. The board shifts from helping the CEO make better decisions to monitoring decisions that have already been made. Strategy discussions get safer, real debate gets rarer and meetings become more about risk management than judgment. This usually coincides with the introduction of more professional board members. For better or worse, they often optimize for governance, optics, and liability management. That’s their job. But it’s not always what the company needs in moments of real uncertainty. Then, CEOs stop using them as thought partners. That’s a problem. So what should founders do? A few principles that help: • Keep the board as small as you can for as long as you can • Add directors for new insight they bring, not what boxes they check • Treat board seats like senior hires, not trophies • Design meetings for debate rather than reporting • Be explicit about when you want input vs approval Good boards should improve decision-making. If your board isn’t making you think harder, it’s probably not doing its job.

Yesterday, Airtree announced a new $650m set of funds. But what does this actually mean for founders? Jackie and I joined Sachin and Adam to unpack all the details. Links are in the comments but the TLDR is that we've sized and structured it to provide world class capital (both in terms of size and services) to the best Aussie and Kiwi founders from pre-product onwards. We'd love your feedback. And, if you're the type of founder we describe, DMs are open!
